OVERVIEW
IIM Calcutta’s summer placement process for the batch of 2013-2015 was conducted in the first week of November’ 2013. The process was conducted in slots, with each slot lasting two days. Slot Zero took place on the 1
st and 6
th of November and Slot One on the 7
th and 8
th of November 2013. The process concluded during
Slot One, with successful placement of all the students who wished to take offers from the process.

FUNCTION-WISE INFORMATION
Finance and Sales & Marketing contributed the maximum percentage of offers at 20%. Consulting & Corporate Strategy and Business Development were close second, with 19% of total offers.
More than 250 firms had confirmed participation at IIM Calcutta this year, however only 150 firms could make offers due to the process ending ahead of schedule.

SUMMER PLACEMENT PROCESS 2013 (SLOT ZERO)
Record Slot Zero Offers: Slot Zero saw a total of 282 offers being made for internships, an unprecedented
number of offers in Slot Zero so far. Last year, this figure stood at 232 and has seen a tremendous increase; re-
affirming IIM Calcutta’s dominance in placements.
Finance Campus of the Country: IIM Calcutta, internationally ranked 1 in Finance by Financial Times Global
MIM survey 2013, reinforced itself as the Finance Campus of the country. Financial majors like JP Morgan,
Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, Credit Suisse, Citibank, Royal Bank of Scotland,
HSBC, Nomura and Standard Chartered recruited students in large numbers for their Investment Banking,
Markets, and Equities Research roles during the process.
Credit Suisse hired exclusively from IIM Calcutta for their IBD, Sales & Trading, and Equity Research divisions.
FICC hiring by Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) was exclusive to IIM Calcutta; students received offers for
Hong Kong and Mumbai desk.
Private Equity and Venture Capital firms such as Macquarie Group, Multiples Equity, Monsoon Capital, India
Alternative Fund and Clearwater Capital offered niche finance roles to students.
Top Indian Banks like Axis Bank and ICICI Bank recruited for their corporate banking and treasury divisions.
Consulting Majors hire in Large Numbers: Following the trend in recent years, management consulting firms
flagged off the process with consulting majors such as McKinsey & Co., BCG, Bain & Co., A.T. Kearney and
Accenture hiring in large numbers. McKinsey & Co. extended the most number of offers, recruiting 11 students
for their summer internship program. Dalberg Global Development Advisors, a boutique consulting firm, was a
first-time recruiter and hired exclusively from IIM Calcutta. KPMG, Deloitte, Hay Group and Feedback Infra
among others offered business consulting roles.
Diverse Sales and Marketing Roles: The Sales and Marketing function saw participation from all the major sectors like FMCG, Media, Telecom and Healthcare. FMCG domain saw abundant offers extended by companies like Procter & Gamble, Hindustan Unilever, Mondelez International, Nestle, J&J Consumer, Pepsi Co, Coca-Cola India, Reckitt Benckiser, Dabur, Asian Paints, GSK Consumer, L’Oreal and Kellogg’s.
Renowned media houses like Times Group, HT Media and Star India recruited students for their Sales & Marketing divisions.
General Management offers on a Rise: Coveted roles in general management by firms like Tata Administrative
Services (TAS), Aditya Birla Group (ABG), Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), Mahindra and Mahindra and Cairn
Energy among others were offered to students of IIM Calcutta. CK Birla Group hired from IIM Calcutta for the
first time for its group’s internship program.
Exclusive Roles by Technology Firms: Google, leader in Internet-related services and products, offered
summer internships exclusively to IIM Calcutta students. This was Google’s first visit to IIM Calcutta. Microsoft
hired students for their India Development Centre (IDC) and Sales, Marketing & Services Group (SMSG) roles.
Amazon visited the campus to hire interns for four roles - Operations Manager, Product Manager, Category
Manager (Sourcing) and Category Manager (Inventory Planning).

The diversity of profiles witnessed at IIM Calcutta this year was unparalleled, as has been the case for many
years now. A sense of the assortment of roles on offer through this year’s placement process can be captured
through the following examples -
In addition to our last year’s recruiters - Dr. Reddy's, GSK Pharma, Medtronics, Becton Dickinson and
Piramal – in Pharmaceutical and Healthcare space, IIM Calcutta saw participation from Eli Lilly and
Zulekha Hospitals for the first time.
Retail sector was well represented on campus with participation from firms like UCB, Aravind Lifestyle
Brands, Raymond, and Sahara Q Shop among others.
Slot 1 also was well endowed with Sales & Marketing roles. Internships were offered in various
industries – Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG), Fast Moving Consumer Durables (FMCD), Telecom
and Media sectors.
World's largest chocolate maker MARS International, global telecom giant Vodafone, home
appliances major Whirlpool and Multi Screen Media (owners of SET India) were present at campus.
Bosch, a multinational Engineering and Electronics Company and one of the world's largest supplier of
automotive components recruited students from campus.
Emerson, a diversified global Manufacturing and Technology Company serving the industrial,
commercial and consumer markets, offered internships.
Larsen & Toubro Limited (L&T), the Indian technology, engineering, construction and manufacturing
major, offered intern-roles to students.
IT majors Cognizant, Wipro, Aspire Systems, HCL and iNautix recruited students for Consulting and
IT/Systems profiles.
Choppies, the leading FMCG retailer in Botswana and South Africa, continued its relationship with IIM
Calcutta and offered roles across major functional areas. The internship will be based out of
Botswana.
Banglanatak.com, a social enterprise working across India with a mission to foster pro-poor growth
and protection of rights of women, children and indigenous communities, selected students for
summer internship.

The batch of 2013-2015 (Batch of 50/20: 50th
batch PGDM, 20th
batch PGDCM) at IIM Calcutta comprises 454 students, 109 of whom are female (23.59%). This is an increase of around 12.5% as compared to the batch of 2012-2014.

PRIOR EDUCATION
Students from IIM Calcutta typically have a history of academic brilliance displayed through all their
educational years. Every year, the best students from India’s premier institutes are admitted to the campus.
This year too, a healthy 28% of students in the PGP1 batch have received an IIT degree, 13% of students are
from NITs, while 49.5% of students have studied in other Indian engineering colleges. The batch of 50/20
comprises of 90.5% students with an engineering background whereas 9.5% of students have a non-
engineering background. There are 15 students with an undergraduate degree from an overseas university.

IIM Calcutta has successfully secured internship placements for 454 students in record 3.25 days through its
placement process. Candidates have been offered a variety of roles in Finance, Consulting, Sales & Marketing,
Business Development, General Management, Operations, HR, and Systems. This accomplishment reaffirms
IIM Calcutta’s strong affiliation with the industry and establishes that IIM Calcutta is the preferred destination
for recruiters.
