After Ginny was introduced to Xerxes her senior year at Baylor University, she knew at that moment that he was “the one”. “ It was love at first sight for me. I was immediately smitten. I couldn’t pronounce his name so I just kept calling him Zeus”, Ginny said.

That night she called her best friend and told her she met the man she was going to marry. When Ginny was asked questions about him, she knew little to none. “ I knew that he played a sport at Baylor and his name was something like Zeus”, she said. The next day Ginny and her roommate went to the Baylor University website and searched every athletic department “looking for guys with weird names” hoping they could find him. No luck.

After the summer, she ran into him at a friend’s house. She was still as smitten as the first time they had met. “It was like I was star-struck by him. I could hardly speak to him because he made me so giddy. We slowly started hanging out more. About a year after we first met we were dating.”

After having a horrible day at work , Ginny opened the door to her apartment and to her surprise their two bulldogs were waiting for her dressed like a bride and groom. Xerxes was waiting behind the dogs to surprise her with a scrapbook of all of their adventures together. “After we looked through all the pictures he got down on one knee! I am pretty sure I forgot to say yes in all of my excitement. My bad day just became the best day of my life.” That night Xerxes took Ginny to their favorite resteraunt. When they arrived, Xerxes had another surprise, both of their families and friends were there to celebrate!

The wedding began with an emotional ceremony at Austin Avenue Methodist Church, where Ginny’s parents were married. Ginny wore an ivory silk taffeta and organza gown, by Amsale for Stanley Korshak.The classic drop waist silhouette featured a sweet-heart neckline and rouched bodice. The full skirt fell gracefully to gold Christian Louboutin heels.

After the touching ceremony, guests entered a candlelit reception room filled with blue lighting, crystal decor and done up in shades of blue and white all created by Pendley Party Productions. Tall crystal vases and candle holder arrangements by Bloomingals greeted guests, while a variety of different centerpieces featuring hydrangeas, orchids & white roses graced the elegantly dressed dining tables.

Xerxes and Ginny were concerned about making sure people danced. The couple chose The Top for their music choice. The dance floor was packed the whole night. “ It was definitely the first wedding that I have been to where the guests were chanting the

band’s name for an encore”, Ginny said. As passionate about food and drinks as they are about music, the couple presented food stations at their Ridgewood Country Club reception. “ We didn’t want food that was at every other wedding. We basically gave the Chef the reigns and he came back with an awesome menu. We had multiple food stations throughout, each station having a different theme. We had multiple bars scattered throughout with all different types of drinks. We had a wine bar, margaritas and Mexican beer and an Ice Bar. I think the most popular thing at our reception was the Ice Bar that had our monogram etched into it.

The couple will have their memories for years to come thanks to photographer Charla Holmes with Holmes Photographic Art. Ginny has the highest of praise for her vendors: “We had so much fun plan-ning the wedding. It was so easy because we had such great vendors. I can’t wait to get our video so we can relive the whole night again!”

Choosing your wedding cake is the sweetest part of your wedding planning process. While you might have a passion for gum-paste roses or fondant flourishes, or a desire to drape your cake in strings of pearls, Wedding Cakes by Esther has you covered!

Wedding Cakes by Esther is a custom bakeshop specializing in sugar art for wedding cakes as well as for any occasion. Esther’s interest in art started in Jr. High when she won her first art competition and has continued taking painting classes into adulthood and has won several awards in oil painting medium. Over 30 years ago Esther channeled her artistic interest into cake decorating and has never looked back.

Ideally, you should select your cake four to 12 months in advance, but where do you start? Start collecting pictures of cakes you like, so you can give your cake designer a clear idea of what you want. You may also want to bring pictures of your gown, swatches from your linens and samples of your design elements.

With per-serving prices ranging from a couple of dollars to many times that, it is wise to determine your budget before attending your cake tasting appointments. While certain cakes and fillings are more expensive than others, the greatest factor determining the price of the wedding cake is the decoration.

Esther has taken classes from world-renowned sugar artists here in the states and abroad where a variety of teachers have enhanced her skill level and knowledge of the cake profession. Attending culinary school at Texas State Technical College in the 1990’s for baking has helped her establish wonderful moist cakes for her clients along with cupcakes, cookies and other delicious delectables.

“ My greatest enjoyment is planning and designing someone’s cake for a wedding, sweet sixteen or baby shower. I never copy another cake artists’ work; I always put my own personal touch but yet, achieve what the client wants as well as plan with their special day by recommending other local vendors. Is this job easy? -No, but I do like the challenge.”Esther is a classified master sugar artist but still continues to take classes to hone her skill to better help her clients. Being involved in the cake business has enabled her to travel and be apart of a sugar art society called “Ices” in which she has been an alter-nate and secretary twice for the state of Texas.

So, between your design inspiration and your flavor cravings, you may find your cake selection to be a more complicated decision than you might have imagined. But give your cake the attention it deserves, and you’ll find it’s possible to have a wedding cake that is truly personalized inside and out.

Using perfect color, form and the dynamics of composition, Ginny Swalley, Owner and Floral Desiger of Creative Innova-tions blends the languages of art and romance with creative energy and unmistakable skill. The result is an ideal setting for a dream wedding.

Beginning her career over 20 years ago in the small south Texas town of Alvin, Ginny has since traveled to Australia and Europe to work with a variety of floral designers. Over that time, she gained a unique knowledge of how to blend almost every type of flower and style imaginable to create an ideal wedding setting.

When hiring a florist, look around you and think about who will work on your wedding? Make sure the floral designer you’re interviewing will actually create the arrangements.Be sure to inquire if your florist has done weddings at your ceremony and/or reception sites before. If so, they may have pictures of arrangements created for your site and will be knowledgeable about what sizes, shapes, and colors work in the space. If not, they should be willing to scope out the space and familiarize him or herself with any limitations. At the very least, bring along some sort of photo in case the Floral Designer has never worked a wedding there before, so that you’re starting with an idea of the space.

Creative Innovations is more like an art studio than a

traditional flower shop. “I like to talk to my brides to get a feel for what they want and find out how they visualize themselves on their wedding day and then start to design from there,” says Ginny. “Weddings are highly personal and individual, and I start creating from that point of view.” Ginny and the bride scatter pictures, fabrics and flowers all over the table and mold the collage of all the ideas into a beautiful event.

Don’t assume your florist will have access to your ceremony and reception site early on in the big day. Make necessary arrange-ments by getting written permission and a key, if need be. Be sure to coordinate the delivery time of your bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres with your photographer’s arrival, you’ll want them to be worn or held in formal pictures.

A great plus, Ginny works hands-on with wedding caterers, and has rentals for every setting. “Obviously, flowers are my spe-cialty, but the flowers are a part of a larger picture and I work hard to tie all aspects of the event together,” she says.“Weddings are not about me or how I think it should look - this is the bride’s moment and my assignment is to advise and to make the floral magic happen to fit the bride’s ‘picture’ and her budget.

These days, florists are actually more like event designers. You may be able to get decorations from your florist. Dealing with one vendor rather than four or five may alleviate some stress.

Lindsey Kalina and Chase Mallard met in 2007 during a calf roping with her bestfriend Alyson and her husband, Dwayne. Lindsey noticed Chase talking to Dwayne and knew she had to meet him! As soon as Chase was no where in sight Lindsey asked Dwayne for the entire 411; what he did for a living, if he had a girlfriend, how old he was and so on. Dwayne, being the typical guy and not wanting to get involved he invited Chase to another roping the following weekend and from that moment on Chase and Lindsey have been inseparable. 4 years later, after conquering the battle of a long distance relationship due to Lindsey attending nursing school, Chase proposed and from that day on the Wedding Planning madness was in full force.

“ I found a picture in a bridal magazine of a wedding that David Tutera did on his show My Fair Wedding. I knew that was my dream wedding and I had to figure out how to put everything together to make that picture come to life in Tours, Texas. I knew I would need help so I contacted my uncle Tom Adams. He owns The Victorian Sample in Corsicana and I knew if anyone could bring my dream wedding to life it would be him. I gave him the tiny picture I cut out of that magazine and he loved it. He provided all of the flowers and did all of the décor’ at the church and reception. I kind of left the my wedding in the hands of my uncle Tom which made me nervous and excited at the same time. I really felt like I was on David Tutera’s TV show because all I knew is he would take the picture I gave him and bring it to life,” Lindsey said.

The ceremony was held at Saint Martin’s Catholic Church in Tours, Texas. The Bride was escorted down the aisle by her father and wore a Maggie Sotterro one shoulder 24

couture gown with an ivory flower fascinator with pearls and feathers with an ivory birdcage veil from Georgio’s Bridal. The bride and bridesmaids chose Angela Karr as their makeup artist for the big day. The bride carried a bouquet of nosegay of circus roses, hot pink spray roses, purple hydrangeas, purple status, orange orchids and orange calla lilies. The Bridesmaids carried a similar bouquet but a smaller version.

Following the ceremony, a reception was hosted by the parents of the bride at Tours Hall. “The day of the wedding I was nervous because I knew it was an old building and needed a lot of work. I did not know how my uncle would make it look like the picture I had given him a year before. He did not want me to see the hall until Chase and I walked in after the ceremony. As we walked into the reception hall, I was stunned! Everything was exactly how I envisioned it! The couple’s first dance was to the song “First Date for the Last time” written for the couple for their first dance by country music artist Todd Fritsch. The couple also had local country artist Kristen Kelly as a performer as well.

The Bride’s cake was a simple 4 tiered white cake with buttercream icing with 4 inch diamond ribbon wrapped around each tier. Aubrey Mathis Photography was the photographer of choice for the couple’s big day as well as their engagements.

After the reception Limousines Unlimited transported the couplein a hummer limo to the Czech Inn. The couple left Sunday night for St. Thomas where they enjoyed their 5 night honeymoon.

Legacy Imaging really is a statement as much about what they do as it is who they are. Portraits are a legacy. There is a point in history that you can never go back to. When it comes to your wed-ding you will want to remember how you felt when you held hands at the altar, how glad you were that your grandmother was there to see you get married, or how your father teared up right before he walked you down the aisle. These are a part of you... a part of your legacy.

Legacy Imaging wants to be there to capture those images, to give you those memories when the moment has long since passed. It has been said a million times that a picture is worth a thousand words, but when it’s a picture of a groom so overwhelmed with his love for the bride that he can’t speak, that picture to the bride is worth more than words can say. This husband and wife team allows them to split up on the wedding day to accommodate the couple on what is almost always a very busy day; one with the groom and one with the bride. They usually photograph about 30 weddings a year. Most of those weddings include bridal sessions and engagement sessions. People often ask how long they have been in photography. “We have been married for 23 years and Rhonda’s first SLR 35mm camera was a gift from me when we were still dating. Photography has always been a big part of our life. Capturing the small details is one of our specialties. The little things when you look back on the portraits from the day you will be reminded of all the care and love that went in to the preparation of your special day. Portraiture for

weddings is still a critical part of what we do. These days it seems most wedding photographers follow a more journalistic approach to photography as opposed to traditional portraits. We do both. Knowing how to pose people and position groups effectively and efficiently is something that takes experience. When taking por-traits we almost always try to mix it up by doing some traditional and some contemporary/fun.” Wonderful wedding photography shouldn’t cost a small fortune, but by the same token a friend with his new DSLR is not going to produce the same result as someone that has experience and professional grade equipment. Find out if what you are getting compares apples to apples with other photographers. Be sure to ask about image quality & resolution if you are receiving digital images. Another aspect that is sometimes overlooked is personality. If you do not feel comfortable with your photographer it will most likely show in the quality of images you receive. Ask yourself if this person is someone that you could call a friend or just someone that you don’t mind putting up with. Budgeting for photography is something that we know a lot of people struggle with. “Should we cut from the budget for the photographer so we can have better champagne, or more flowers, or a bigger wedding cake etc...” In 5 years what will matter more to you? Will it be the champagne, the cake, or will it be a portrait of you and your husband hanging on the wall reminding you how you felt the day you committed your lives to one another? Will it be an album on your coffee table that everyone that comes over to your house still flips through to relive your wedding? Just something to consider…

Jaime was one of the first people Brianne met at Texas A&M University. Little did she know that the man recruiting her to be in his student organization would one day be her husband.

After 4 years at A&M together, Jaime was accepted into the Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine while Brianne was accepted to the Baylor University MBA program. “While we were only an hour and a half apart, we knew it would be a test to our love”. Just under a year after moving back to Waco for Brianne’s first year of school, Jaime and Brianne were celebrating what she thought was a late Valentine’s Day. “We got all dressed up, and Jaime recreated my first birthday we celebrated together at Christopher’s World Grille, our favorite restaurant in Col-lege Station. My best friends picked me up and escorted me to the restaurant to meet Jaime, right when I walked in, I real-ized we had the entire room to ourselves with a very familiar set-up. Right when I

got to the table, Jaime handed me my “Valentine’s Day present”, but instead of the earrings I had asked for, I got the most perfect diamond ring! Just as I said yes, I noticed my family pop out around the corner to start taking pictures & celebrate with us! I was so happy he had included them in the special moment. Jaime also hid a camera that videotaped the whole thing so I could relive the moment over & over”.

The couple knew that they wanted to get married in the Cayman Islands. It just so happened a vacation there had already been planned for 4 months later, so their wedding date was set! They could not decide between having a private Cayman wedding in their friend’s backyard on a seven mile beach or celebrating with all of their friends and family back home, so they did both! Besides, what girl wouldn’t want two anniversaries?

During Angela’s senior year at UMHB her girlfriends and she would get together once a week for a girls night. It never failed that after all the typical school, work, and internship talk the subject would change to their dating lives. They would describe their dream men, then laugh and joke about how they don’t exist! “When I met Patrick I was dumb-struck by how he embodied everything I’d ever dreamed of, including his red hair!! I’ve always loved giving people nicknames and to this day my girl-friends and I still call him “PC” for “Prince Charming” because I knew from the first second we met I’d found my prince!”

Angela and Patrick met through mutual friends in Killeen, Texas in the

winter of 2008. They were amazed to find out that they knew many of the same people, hung out at a lot of the same places, but had never run into each other before! However, once they meet there was no deny-ing there was something there. “We had a million things in common and truly enjoyed each other’s company. We were like magnets to each other. Once we met, there was no keeping us apart”!

Patrick, an active duty Captain in the U.S. Army was to be deployed to Iraq in May of 2009, but before leaving he had one thing he had to do.

Lounging around one night while

watching T.V. Patrick started asking Angela questions:Patrick: Are you sure your ready for life as a military wife?Angela: It’ll be different, but with you by my side I can handle it!Patrick: are you sure you’re never gonna get sick of me?Angela: “laughs” NEVER!Patrick: Are you suuuuuure you’re gonna love me forever?Angela: Forever and ever...and then... “I knew he loved me, but was I so shocked when I looked at Patrick who was getting down on one knee and grinning ear to ear.

The couple’s June wedding at Cathedral Oaks In Belton, Texas started with an outdoor ceremony, with beautiful columns and arbor where draped and topped with large arrangements of white and green Hydrangea, purple stock, Picasso Calla Lilies, white roses and green Cymbidium Orchids from Creative Innovations.

The bride wore a Vera Wang gown to exchange rings with her groom who wore a Kenneth Cole Tuxedo.

Afterward, the couple’s guests were treated to cocktails, and fruits, cheeses, and appetizers; Gorgonzola Stuffed Mushrooms and Prosciutto

Wrapped Shrimp on a wooden skewer on the beautifully decorated outside patio. After hors d’oeuvres the guests gatherd inside for a beautiful wedding reception. Reception decor provided by Confetti Rentals consisted of sage table clothes with double white scroll-embroidered runners on each table. Except for the head table which was the opposite. Each chair was tied with both a green and white sash and we alternated large single glass cylinders (clear glass with floating orchids and l.e.d. lights) topped with large arrangements with groups of three glass cylinders (also filled with floating orchids and l.e.d. lights) topped with candles.

Dinner provided by Catering With a Twist; served tuscan romance salad, chicken parmesan, and pesto crusted salmon as well as a pasta bar!

Reflecting on their remarkable story and wedding, Angela can’t help but feel blessed. “Even though I knew exactly what I wanted our special day to look like I never dreamed it could be so beautiful. Our vendors went above and beyond,” she says.

These days, the cost of a wedding makes a year at Harvard and Yale look affordable. How are you going to scrape together the bucks so you can have the bash you want? “I Do” On a Dime is your one stop shop from your Wedding Gown to Your Wedding Decor.

After graduating Tarleton State University in 2007 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education; Heather Dudley, owner of “I Do” On a Dime from there went on to teach 2nd grade at China Spring Elementary for two years. During that time, she became engaged & began planning/ budgeting her wedding. Being a thrifty shopper, she was always on the hunt for bargains, especially after she be-gan discovering just how expensive a wedding could get. After searching for a wedding resale shop in the Waco area, she ended up empty handed. “I was eager to purchase items such as vases, decorations, etc. from other brides who no longer needed them. To my dismay, this was just about impossible to do.”

In the past, Heather had always envisioned owning her very own resale shop. The thought of owning her own business began to bubble up when she discovered that there was a need for a wedding related consignment shop in Central Texas. After several meetings with her business advisor from McLennan Community College and careful strategizing and planning, she made the decision to leave the field of teaching to take a chance on this vision.

“I married my best friend in June of 2009 and with his support, the money we had left over from our own wedding and a few prayers, I officially began the process of creating a bridal consignment

shop in July of that same year. It all began with the decorations of our own wedding in the office of our home. I began attracting consignor’s and customers by advertising on Craigslist and various other inexpensive, if not free media sources. Within six months, I had enough inventory that it no longer fit in the one room of our home, so I made the decision that it was time to open a store front.”

January 5, 2010, “I Do” On a Dime Wedding Consignment Boutique opened its doors in its first location of Robinson, Texas. The boutique specializes in once worn and never worn bridal gowns along with various other wedding day needs such as mother’s dresses, flower girl dresses, jewelry, veils, tiaras, decorations, ceremony and reception needs. “It has become exactly what I had envisioned two years ago, a one-stop bridal consignment shop”. After the first year, the inventory was overflowing the small space in Robinson. “I Do” On A Dime moved to a centralized spot in Waco, Texas.

In January of 2011, “ I Do” On a Dime opened the doors of their current location at 504-A Lake Air Drive in Waco. Brides can now conveniently come by this one of a kind shop and get a great bargain on just about anything wedding related. With over 100 gowns in stock at any given time and a constantly changing inventory, they cater to brides who are on a budget and/ or don’t want to spend a small fortune on their dream wedding day. This boutique offers brides a way to save money on everything from one of the most important purchases, the wedding gown down to the smallest detail of the tea lights.

Ten years ago, Sara Mackie lost her husband,Don Mackie, developer and one of the owners of Mill Creek Golf and Country Club in Salado. Dr. Bob Shull, as well lost his wife Jennie who was a special ed teacher at Temple ISD. Through the Institute for the Humanities at Salado, which Sara directs and Dr. Bob Shull had been past President of the Board of Directors for, the couple became reacquainted in an effort to seek funding for the Institute. “We discovered we had a lot in common, including many friends and activities in the central Texas area.” After reuniting the couple established a great friendship and love for one another.

On a vacation with family in the romantic and beautiful country of Costa Rica, Bob proposed to Sara and soon enough the wedding planning began. When Sara Mackie and Dr. Bob Shull began to plan a wedding that would bring friends and family in from as far as Virgina and Washington to the small and chic little town of Salado, the place they call home. Tenroc Ranch seemed to be the ideal setting “because it is beautiful, simple & accommodated all of our guests easily.”

The couple also had guests from other countries such as Mexico and Canada where Sara’s pen pal of 45 years made plans to attend the wedding with her husband from Vancouver.

The couple wed on June 12, 2011 at Tenroc Ranch in Salado in which the ceremony started with an outdoor ceremony, The couple had 65 guests in addition to their immediate family ranging from close friends to medical associates. The couple chose to not have any wedding attendants but instead to have all eighteen of their immediate family sit on the side of the creek next to the couple while saying their vows.

Afterward, the couple’s guests proceeded to an indoor reception, with beautiful white and blue table linens provided by Confetti Rentals in Harker Heights. Creative Innovations was the florist of choice who also designed Sara’s daughters wedding as well. “ I did not have to do anything, I trusted Ginny after seeing what she had creatived for my daughter’s wedding and left it in her hands.” Tracelyn of Simply Sweet Cakes had also created the cakes for Sara’s daughter’s wedding. Simply Sweet created delicious cakes made of chocolate and buttercream with buttercream icing.

It was truly a family affair: Chef Dave Hermann, Bob’s son-in law, and The Range catered the wedding. Sarah’s son-in-law, Kevin Stanley, was involved as well. He is the Food and Beverage Manager at the Stagecoach Inn and they catered the rehearsal dinner the night before. The guests enjoyed dining and dancing to the live music sounds of Touch Of Class Band.
