Youth Programs: Summer Fun at the Library This summer, each book read counts toward ALL of these reading programs! Register for 1, 2 or all 3! 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten The concept is simple but the rewards are priceless! Read any book to your infant, toddler or preschooler -- the goal is to have read 1,000 books before they enter the door of kindergarten! Just reading 1 book a day is: 365 books in a year 730 in two years 1,095 in three years! You have plenty of time, so take advantage of this wonderful early literacy reading program! Summer Reading Club This year’s theme is “On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!” for children birth through entering 5 th grade. Registration begins June 1 and is ongoing throughout the summer. This summer, each book read counts toward ALL of these reading programs!

1,000 Books Before

Kindergarten

Pirate Tales

This summer, read your way into PNC Park! To participate in this exciting summer reading program all you have to do is:

Rock That Smock Art Camp

Wednesdays @ 10:30 am: June 8 through Aug. 17 A little paint and a lot of creativity awaits children ages 3-6 including a story, activity and a take-home art project! Please wear old clothing! No registration required.

Imagination Yoga | Mondays @ 10:30 am:

June 13 & 27, July 11 & 25 , Aug. 8 & 22 A certified Imagination Yoga instructor uses an original story to guide students ages 3-8 through a yoga class. Each adventure incorporates the physical benefits of yoga, calming and concentration techniques and kindness exercises. Yoga mat provided. Registration required.

Bricks and Flicks | Fridays @ 1 pm: June 17, July 1 & 15,

Aug. 5 & 19 Build math, literacy, social and problem-solving skills at our LEGO free-build days AND watch a short LEGO movie! Larger LEGOS provided to younger children. No registration required.

Book Cooks | Young chefs (preschool-grade 2) will

develop an appetite for nutritious foods while being introduced to books that reinforce social and academic skills! Please see our website for supplies needed for each class. Registration required. Beyond the Brush Art Children entering grades 2-5 can join local Michael’s art and craft instructor Michelle as she introduces a new and exciting monthly project and take home a beautiful, unique creation! Registration required.

Head, Shoulders, Knees & Scales: Carnegie Museum of Natural History Wednesday, July 6 @ 6:30 pm The Carnegie Museum of Natural History brings its wild side to the library with LIVE reptiles! Program geared to preschool-grade 2, but all are welcome. Registration required.

YOUTH PROGRAMS

American Red Cross Babysitter Training & Certification

Saturday, June 11 from 10 am - 5 pm | Cost: $72.25

The American Red Cross will host a babysitter training course to provide knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for infants and children. This is a 7 hour course with a library discounted rate includes a take-home training handbook, emergency reference guide and CD-ROM. Training is available to anyone ages 11 and up. Younger siblings may not attend. Participants will need to bring a lunch. Payment due at the time of registration. You may register online but will need to bring cash or check to the library (payable to Baldwin Borough Public Library) to secure your spot.

Paws for a Cause with Animal Friends Mondays @ 11 am: June 20, July 18 & Aug. 15 Come read to an Animal Friends dog. There will also be stories and activities. Please bring one item from the Animal Friends Supply Drive list found on our website. Registration required.

Science in the Summer with Carnegie Science Center

Monday-Thursday: July 25-28 from 12:30-1:30 pm

GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare and the Carnegie Science Center are teaming up to bring you Science in the Summer!

Curriculum is Physical Science: electricity, magnetism, color, light and sound. This program is over four consecutive days, and you must be able to attend all sessions. Registration for this program is required and is limited to 18 participants entering grades 2-6.

SMART (Science, Math and Art) Kids

Each month, children in grades K-3 will explore a Science, Math or Art topic while having plenty of hands-on learning and fun! Registration required. Wednesdays @ 6:30 pm: - June 8 (Fingerprints and Forensics) - July 13 (Weather Science) - Aug. 3 (Fruit and Vegetable Portraits)

FAMILY PROGRAMS

Stuffed Friend Sleepover | Friday,

July 15 @ 6:30 pm (animal registration & activities) & Saturday, July 16 @ 9:30 am (animal pick-up with donuts and juice)

Bring your favorite stuffed friend to the library for a sleepover! Each child will hear a story, have a snack, and tuck their stuffed friend into “bed.” Children return the next morning to pick up their stuffed friend, enjoy donuts and juice, and find out what “mischief” their friend got into overnight! Registration required.

Discover 3D Printing Wednesday, June 15 @ 6:30 pm Join Aaron Hartman from Bits to Pieces and learn how 3D printing is going to change the world. This lecture and demo is a beginner's guide to getting started with 3D printing. See a printer creating a part right before your eyes! This program is for anyone ages 8 and older (teens and adults too)! Registration required.

Family Night: Musical Theater Production Friday, Aug. 5 @ 7 pm @ Harrison Middle School Our teen musical theater students will present Give My Regards to Broadway! Don’t miss this FREE family event and support our teens! All ages welcome! Registration required.

End of Summer Reading Celebration and BBQ

Friday, Aug. 26 @ 6 pm Come celebrate the end of summer with food, games, music, face painting, performers and more! No registration required.

Brushes Before Bedtime Family Art Night Join us for a night of family art using various techniques. No age limit requirements. A “how to draw” segment will be included in each program. Summer Reading Kick-Off Party Wednesday, June 1 @ 7 pm Don't miss magician Al Mazing and his family-friendly "Exercise Your Imagination" interactive magic show! All children can register for the 2016 summer reading program, receive their packets and a small sign-up prize! Registration required.

Finding Dory Party Friday, June 24 @ 6:30 pm (activities) & 7:30-9 pm (Finding Nemo movie) Finding Dory opens in theaters on June 17! We are celebrating everyone’s favorite forgetful blue tang Dory and pals Marlin and Nemo with crafts, games, stories, snacks and a chance to win Finding Dory prizes! Registration required.

Teen Musical Theater

We are thrilled to have a Point Park University Musical Theater major leading teens in its first-ever summer musical! Students entering grades 6-12

are encouraged to participate in this fun production! You must be available for most of the practices and for the performance date. Parental permission forms are available at the library and must be completed before the first practice. Registration required.

Mind and Body Wellness for Teens | Friday, July 8 @ 2 pm

Create a peaceful and relaxing miniature Zen garden, then learn how to make delicious and nutritious smoothies! Please notify us of any food allergies. Registration required.

Color Dye | Friday, July 29 @ 2 pm & Saturday, July 30 @ 11 am

We’re combining two artistic creations in a 2-day program! On day 1, you will create either a tie-dye picture frame or birdhouse. After project prep, enjoy the relaxing techniques of teen coloring books. On day 2, add final touches to your project. Registration required.

Teen 3D Printing Workshop | Tuesday, July 12 @ 6:30 pm

Come to our teen workshop to learn how to generate your own 3D models. You’ll go through the fundamentals of software called 123D Design to make a 3D file that can be used for 3D printing. This hour long class hosted by Aaron Hartman of Bits to Pieces will show you the basics of 3D design. Registration required.
