With national bike to work day upon us ,

you should consider cleaning up your

bike and hitt ing the road . A recent

study est imated that 70% of car r ides

are for distances under two miles , which

i s an easi ly bikeable distance . You may

want to soup up your r ide with baskets

i f you need to run a quick errand , but

biking in general i s easy on the knees

and costs you zero dollars . As the old

saying goes , cars run on money and

make you fat , but bikes run on fat and

save you money .

Unlike running , which can

stress jo ints , swimmers can

get good resistance

training in without

pounding the concrete .

Just a few extra steps a day could make

a dif ference . Many Americans have

off ice jobs that keep them plopped in a

seat al l day . When you can , stand up

and take walks . For example , you can

usual ly pace around while you ’re on the

phone . You can also take quick laps

around the off ice or around the block

every hour to keep blood moving and

wake up sleepy muscles .

swimming , yoga can help

improve your circulat ion

and keep your l imbs

l imber .
