All classes require students to purchase or rent necessary books. Books can be purchased at a college bookstore or any online text source such as Amazon. College textbook rental sources include Chegg, Valore Books and many more. Dual credit classes provide students with both high school credit and college credit for the same course. Concurrent classes are college classes that high school students take for college credit only. Government 2306 - Texas Government is a required course for all students attending college in Texas. This is a concurrent credit only course. *Students residing in HCC’s district do not pay tuition for dual credit courses as it is covered in their taxes already. In district students also have lower concurrent course costs. Both HCC and WCJC may also assess a technology fee. All courses are contingent upon sufficient student interest and college instructor
availability. In order to take dual credit government courses students must meet college readiness standards in English Language Arts. They are as follows:
• A student with a STAAR EOC English II score of at least 4000 is exempt from the reading/writing requirements for dual credit.
• A student with an ACT composite score of at least 23 and an English score of at least 19 is exempt from the reading and writing requirements.
• A student with an SAT score of at least 1070 and a verbal score of at least 500 is exempt from the reading and writing requirements.
If a student does not meet any of the criteria above, he/she must pass the English section of the TSI. TSI testing is available at WCJC and HCC for a fee.
