Adult Education FREE English as a Second Language (ESL),Citizenship (CITZ), & High School Education Classes (GED)
English as a Second Language (ESL) MSJC provides ESL students with free English classes. Our classes help you develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills that pertain to life and work in the United States.
General Education Development (GED) Our GED classes prepare you to take the GED or HISET exam that, when passed, offers a high school equivalence certificate.
Citizenship (CITZ) Citizenship classes prepare immigrants for the naturalization process and the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services interview. You’ll learn U.S. government and history, and practice reading and speaking skills necessary to pass the test.
Counseling Services Learn more about who you are, what you want, and develop a plan to achieve your goals..

ESL Level Classes
In each level class, you will learn integrated English skills such as lstening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar. Our Beginning / Multi-Level 1 classes focus primarily on conversation while our Advanced classes help students develop their writing skills for work for continuing education. Individual and group projects and presentations will help you further develop and apply your language skills. Each level class administers CASAS reading and listening tests do document your progress in learning English. Level classes
meet for 6-8 hours per week.

In this level, students will learn basic reading, writing, listening and speaking skills for everyday needs. Instruction will emphasize general language construction.
In this level, students will continue to practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Students will improve conversational skills and learn more about verb tenses.
This level emphasizes development of advanced reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills for work and study.

Principles of Digital Communication -- Basic image editing, web design, and audio editing. This course is designed to align with our future MSJC credit Digital Media Arts program in de- velopment, and leads to employment in local media business..
Introduction to Business Communication -- Basic skills in business communication, networking, customer service, sales, and professional- ism. This class leads to MSJC Business certificate and degree programs.
Introduction to Child Development -- Entry level skills in working with children. Focus on understanding and addressing challenging behaviors in children. This class continues with certificate and degree programs.
Introduction to Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Class -- Basic construc- tion and carpentry skills, terminology, blueprint reading, applied mathematics for construction, certifications in both Red Cross CPR and OSHA-10 safety. This class leads to paid employment opportunities in the Carpenters’ Union.
Introduction to Culinary Arts -- Key skills of food handling, prepara- tion, and cooking, food handler card certification. This course is designed to align with our future MSJC credit culinary arts program in develop- ment, and leads to employment in local restaurant and resort kitchens..
