Creative Destruction: Volcanoesinspiring art and scienceAn exhibition exploring conversationsbetween art and science, artist and scientist.The exhibition looks at themes of beauty,energy, fragility and change in the landscape,seeing volcanoes through the eyes of theartist and the scientist. Running through theexhibition is an emphasis on fieldwork,exploration, experimentation, and drawing;and how art and science can overlap and fuse.
The exhibition explores scale, showing aseries of remarkable large-scale drawings andprints by Emma StibbonRA, recording herinvestigations into volcanic sites. Her drawingsoften incorporate found materials, such asvolcanic ash with black drawing ink on paper.
Artworks are set alongside volcanic researchby Kathy Cashman FRS and includingspectacular film footage by Sir ProfessorSteve Sparks FRS CBE. A display of volcanic rocks,
