Letter from the Director…

Warmer temperatures, greener grass, and fresh air have us gearing up for the summer of 2016! This summer hopes to be one of innovation and renovation as our organization takes strides towards continual and increased connection with the community and its citizens through parks and recreation.

We are excited this year to continue our partner-ship with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Cambridge Lions Club to offer Cops and Bobbers. This newer program continues to con-nect kids with positive adult role models in the community that help keep them safe and secure while connecting with nature and its resources in a nontraditional recreation program.

While we always continue to offer adult fitness classes, this summer we decided to try and offer new and exciting options. First being Zumba which is a Latin inspired workout that centers on fast pace music and dancing. If you’re not in the mood to get in the groove, perhaps you can join us in a newly designed 5K for the FUN of it. Our twist on a couch to 5K class, this adults only running club will culminate with participating in this com-ing year’s Fun Run as part of the Wellness Expo in September.

Lastly, we are excited about the current renova-tions taking place down at Ripley Park. Aside from the newly resurfaced tennis and basketball courts, we are especially pleased with the soon to be completed newly constructed bathhouse and park shelter. This facility designed for parties and family gatherings not only includes access to a kitchenette area, but will also be available for rental this park season. Oh, and don’t forget about that summer park pass!

There are so many wonderful things available this summer, we want to wish you a great season full of fun and relaxation. We hope that during this exciting season through our various programs and facilities you and your family will be able to play, inspire, and explore!

All the best,

Cambridge CAP Team

SWIM DESCRIPTIonS

Lifeguard Certification CourseDates: July 11 – 15 Times: 8:00 a .m . – 4:00 p .m .Ages: 15 & upLocation: CACPFee: $215 R / $250 NR*Registration Deadline: July 1

Take this course and become an American Red Cross certified lifeguard. Individuals must pass a skills test including:

• 300 yard swim, 100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststroke, 100 yards of either front crawl or breaststroke

• Swim 20 yard approach, retrieve 10 pound brick from bottom of pool and return back 20 yards to starting point

• Tread water for 2 minutes

Participant MUST attend all dates and times. No exceptions.

The Cambridge Pool is excited to provide your family with Swim Lessons University swim curriculum. This nationally acclaimed, award winning, progressive curriculum is fun and ef-fective.

How will the new swim lesson program be different than the old lessons?

The Swim Lesson University curriculum focuses on child centered, progressive lessons. Each level of Swim Lesson University lessons focuses on a specific area of development or stroke. For example Swim 100, for ages 3-5, focuses on breath control, front kick and back kick, while Swim Strokes 200 focuses on Backstroke and Front Crawl only. Parents are now able to de-cide which strokes they feel are most important for their child to learn and master. Once the child has passed the Swim 100 & 200 levels, they may register for any other levels in no particular order.

What level do I put my child in?

If your child has participated in American Red Cross swim lessons in the past, please see the conversion chart below. Also, please reference the swim level descriptions and prerequisites for more information, which is available online at www.cambridgecap.net/cambridge-area-pool/swim-lessons/

Why is my child using a personal floatation device?

A Power Swimr Flotation vest will be used in the Swim 100 levels. The goal of using the flota-tion device is to provide proper body position while teaching the children new swim skills. The Power Swimr Flotation vests allow instructors to remove an inner flotation pad to adjust the amount of support the child needs. This helps the child to progressively build confidence in the water.

Can my child use goggles?

Once your child has mastered opening their eyes under water, they will have the option to use goggles. Swim Lesson University curriculum focuses on safety and wants to ensure each participant is confident being able to see underwater in an emergency situation.

When will my child learn to float?

Unlike other swim lesson curriculums, learning to float will be taught once a child is comfort-able in the water and is able to swim on their own.

Where can I find the swim lesson schedule?

The swim lesson schedule is available online at www.cambridgecap.net/cambridge-area-pool/swim-lessons/swim-lesson-schedule/

All participants must pay in full at the time of registration; however, participation in programs to School District residents will not be denied due to financial constraints.

Sunshine FundA private fund has been established to ensure all children are able to participate in CAP activi-ties. We encourage all School District residents in need of financial assistance to contact the Executive Director for further information.

InsuranceThe Cambridge Community Activities Program does not provide medical or accident insurance for any program participants.

Notice of Non–Discrimination No person shall, on the basis of sex, race, color, sexual orientation, national origin, religion or creed, ancestry, age, marital status, or disability be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimina-tion under any program or activity, including employment.

Anti-Harassment PolicyThe Cambridge Community Activities Program is committed to providing an environment in which employees and patrons are treated with courtesy and respect. The Cambridge CAP pro-hibits sexual harassment and harassing words or conduct directed towards others.

Program CancellationsThe Cambridge Community Activities Program reserves the right to cancel a program due to low enrollment. CAP will make every attempt to notify participants of cancellations as soon as possible. Fees for programs cancelled by the Activities Program due to low enrollment will be refunded.

Programs are subject to cancellation due to inclement weather, holidays, or facility conflicts. The CAP will attempt to reschedule a makeup session for such occasions, but this can not be guaranteed. For cancellation information, please call (608) 423-8108, or visit www.cambridgecap.net. Please note the following scenarios:

When the School District of Cambridge is closed or dismisses early due to inclement weather, CAP activities will be cancelled. However, in the event of a late start or school cancellation due to inclement weather, 6 a.m. lap swim will operate as scheduled unless otherwise posted on NBC-15, WKOW-27, or WISC-TV3, as well as CAP voicemail by 5:30 a.m.

For public safety, the CAP reserves the right to close the pool should conditions arise that are deemed hazardous to pool patrons or staff. For the protection of all participants, the Cambridge Area Community Pool will be closed from the first sight of lightning until 30 minutes after the last sighting.

School District CooperationThe Community Activities Program would like to thank the Cambridge School District for their support and cooperation with facility use and scheduling. The extra time and energies from administrative assistants, custodians, teachers, principals, and school board is greatly appreci-ated.

School District Facility Usage The School District facilities are available for use to members of the Cambridge Community per Board of Education policy 830. Any commu-nity member or group wishing to reserve space within the school district may do so by clicking on the School District of Cambridge website at www.cambridge.k12.wi.us and registering to become a requester. Simply click on the “Click here to reserve a facility” link and you will be prompted to a request page. Once you have been approved by the School District to become a requester, you will be able to use the program to apply for reservations. For additional informa-tion please contact the CAP office at (608) 423–8108.

Photo PolicyThe Cambridge Community Activities Program uses pictures of participants in bulletins, social media and displays to inform others of our recreational opportunities. If you do not want a participant’s picture taken, you must inform the Director in writing prior to the start of the program.

Volunteer Opportunities Many volunteer opportunities are available with-in the Cambridge CAP, as volunteers are needed to make this program successful. Please list your name, telephone number, and the particular area that you are interested in volunteering with on the registration form. To ensure the safety of our participants, background checks are per-formed on all CAP employees and volunteers. *CAP is always looking for attractive and innovative programming ideas. If you have any suggestions, ideas, or are interested in teaching a class, please refer to Employment/Volunteer tab on the top of the CAP website, for the create a class form or contact the office to have one sent to you.

Did You Know?Your health insurance company may reimburse you for our programs! That’s right, many health insurance companies reimburse their membersfor wellness programming, youth sports, and community events. Receipts from CAP can be printed directly from your online account.

Refund PolicyA full refund will be issued if a program is cancelled by the CAP due to low enrollment or a facility usage conflict.

If a participant voluntarily withdraws from a program prior to the program's registration deadline, he/she will receive a refund for the amount paid minus a $3 processing fee. If pay-ment was made via credit card, the credit card will be refunded. All other payment types will receive a refund in check form.

If a participant withdraws after the program has begun for extenuating circumstances, or if a participant is unhappy with the program, they may submit their concerns in writing to the CAP Director. CAP may then issue a refund less the $3 processing fee, in the Director’s discretion.

Behavior Policy

It is the objective of the Cambridge CAP to provide a positive experience for all partici-pants and spectators. Appropriate behavior is expected from all participants and spectators in programs, and in all facilities to protect the enjoyment and safety of everyone. Failure to comply may result in immediate removal. Behav-iors that will not be accepted include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Endangering the health and safety of other participants, patrons, or staff.

• Disrupting a program or creating a distur-bance at a facility.

• Repeated refusal to follow program and/or facility rules and guidelines.

• Use of verbal harassment, profanity, vulgarity, obscenity, or racial slurs.

• Disrespect of staff and program or facility rules and guidelines.

• Damage, vandalism or theft of private or school district facilities, equipment, or supplies.

• Possession or use of illegal substances or medi-cation, including the use of alcohol or smoking where prohibited.

• Possession or threat of a weapon.

• Inappropriate display of affection.

Membership or program fees will not be re-funded for any person removed from a program due to violation of this behavior policy. Some programs may have a more detailed or strict behavior policy, such as the Blue Fins or CAP CARE, in which a printed copy will be distrib-uted to all participants. All program participants and spectators are expected to behave appropri-ately and follow the rules of each program.

The following outlines steps that may be used with patrons who are not behaving appropri-ately. The participant will be removed from the situation. A participant will receive written notice for inappropriate behavior, and in the case of a minor, a copy of the notice from the CAP Director will be provided to such minor’s parent/guardian. If a participant receives three notices of inappropriate behavior, or if the participant is involved in one severe incident, as determined by CAP staff, the participant may no longer participate in the program until a meet-ing is held. The participant, a parent/guardian if the participant is a minor, the program in-structor, the program supervisor, and any other persons whom the CAP considers necessary for a resolution of the inappropriate behavior, shall be present at such meeting. At the meeting, the question of continued participation in the program will be considered and, primarily for minor participants, a Behavior Contract may be prepared as a condition of continued participa-tion. Such a Behavior Contract will be personal-ized to the circumstances and the participant, and will include specific expectations and con-sequences for failure to meet such expectations, including possible suspension and/or termina-tion from program participation. Inappropriate behavior by adults may result in more rapid progress toward suspension or termination from program participation.
