Summer is right around the corner, a time of year when the Library has one of its longest running and most popular programs of the year, the Summer Reading program. Each year this program has a theme and this year echoes the anniversary, with “Celebrate 100 Years of Reading.”

In 1913, Pollyanna by Eleanor H. Porter was one of the popular fiction titles; the Erector Set was the new toy; and the 16th Amendment was ratified to authorize income tax. These are just a few facts of the year; many more can be found on the Library’s website.

The Library continues to provide the Park Ridge community with programs and services that contribute to the value and quality of life. The staff and Board of Trustees of the Library continue to work on the best approach to move the Library forward in a time when the budget continues to shrink, and the needs of an aging building require higher spending.

In the next few months, the Board will be evaluating several capital projects with primary focus on the windows, most of them being original to the building. We will continue to provide the community with updates about the Library’s budget and plans closer to the middle of the summer on the Library’s website.

Thank you for your participation in the Library’s programs and services, and your continued interest in its future.

Margaret Harrison, President Library Board of Trustees
