Table-Top Roll Mills Type W 100 TTable-top roll mills are designed for testing small batches. They are used by companies of the plastics industry but also in research and training.

Measuring Roll Mills Type MInstrumented roll mills by Collin® are indispensable for allprocesses of development and production control. Calenders are conventionally used for the continuousproduction of semi-finished thermoplastic films or forthe continuous improvement of different films and surfaces.An extremely variable modular system allows the adaptation of calender units to suit a wide range of requirements. Calenders with 2, 3 or 4 rolls might be as-sembled to quite different configurations.

Film and Sheet CalendersLaboratory calenders are used in the development of continuous processes.They are suitable for the production of film and sheet of different layer thicknesses made from a wide range of polymer materials such as PVC, polyolefins, PU andmany others. Calenders in L, F, I or Z configuration with roll diameters of 168 mm, 250 mm and 350 mm are available.

2-Roll-Calenders for High-Precision Films For the production of films with extremely low wall thickness tolerances, that means highest demands in thickness tolerance, Collin® offers calenders for measuring and controlling gap widths with a precision of 1 μm.

The main characteristics of Collin® pelletizers consist of optimum monitoring of the cutting process, a wide control range of the haul-off speedand a fine adjustment of the blade clearance.

Chill-Roll Units Type CR 144This basic unit is equipped with two casting rolls in horizontal configuration for cast films in a thickness range of between 20 to 300 μm.Available models:CR 144-230, CR 144-350, CR 144-450

Finishing Calender/Chill-Roll Units Type CR 136This unit combines polishing stack with chill-roll unit and is used in the production of thin-wall films, but alsosuitable for thick-wall films or sheets. The 3-roll unit can be used for vertical or horizontal operation. The polishing roll can be supplied for pneumatic or hydraulic operation and is suitable for a wide range of ap-plications such as polishing, embossing or laminating.Available models:CR 136–230, CR 136–350

High-Performance Calenders Type CR 136 SThis unit does combine high nip-pressure with extremelytight running tolerances. With a design similar to the Type 136, this machine is ideal for the production of high-precision films, sheets or composites.

Multi-Manifold Diesfor 2 or 3 layers are suitable for the extrusion of polymerswith different viscosities.

Cast Film-LinesThese cast film lines feature a castingroll either 400 mm or 800 mm in diameter and are ideally suited for development of optical film, for instance, under close to real-worldproduction conditions. With such a line size, it is possible to transfer process parameters to production-scale equipment. In addition to deve-lopment work, these lines can beused for short production runs or toproduce niche products as a way to achieve optimal utilization. Multi-Purpose Lines for Extrusion CoatingThese lines can be used in packaging applications for the production of multi-polymer composites with carrier materials such as paper, textiles, non-wovens or aluminium. Blown Film Lines with Air Cooling The units is characterised by its compact design with small footprint. It offers easy operation, precisely repeatable movements and a quick change-over of products and parameters. Blown film die with diametersfrom 20 to 120 mm are suitable for the production of hoses with lay-flat widths of up to 750 mm. Mono or dual-lip cooling rings and closed loop control of the lay-flat width guarantee reliable quality.The take-off height is adapted with a motor-driven heightadjustment system in the haul-off tower.The labline can be used as a continuously running qualitycontrol line by integration of an Collin® online rheometer oroptical film control (see page 18)Available models: Type BL 180/400 without height-adjustmentType BL 180/600, BL 180/800

Multi-layer Extrusion Lines The modular system by Collin®

Combination Coextrusion Blown/Flat Film Lines Product development in film production requires lineswhich are both representative of real production condi-tions and suitable for both processes. Collin® offers pilot lines with processing parameters which are very close to real production lines, the acquired results can be applied to production lines.

Single-Screw ExtrudersTypes: ME 16, ME 20, ME 25, ME 30, ME 45 Length of processing unit is 25:1 L/D or 30:1 L/D. Barrier screws are available for 30 mm and 45 mmscrew diameters. The barrels are water-cooled as arethe asynchronous servo drives. These extruder series cover a wide range of throughputs from 50 g/hto 45 kg/h.The control system is microprocessor-based with an LCD display as user interface. For fast and safe data access, a data wheel is included. Touch screen is available as an option. A melt pump can be integrated into the control system.The ability to adjust the height and angle of the extruder's axis permits easy adjustment and good access for cleaning.

Twin-Screw CompoundersTypes: MZK 12, MZK 16, MZK 25, MZK 35All machines can be changed easily from co-rotatingto counter-rotating. For fast and easy cleaning, all barrel elements are designed with a C–clamp and arewater-cooled. The machines cover a wide range ofthroughputs from 50 g/h to 70 kg/h.The control system is similar to that of the single-screw extruders.A melt pump can be integrated in the control system.High-precision gravimetric dosing systems are avail-able in each configuration.

Pelletizing LinesThe MKZ 12, MKZ 16, MKZ 25 and MKZ 35compounders can be converted into production pelletizing lines when combined with a melt pump,strand die, cooling belt and pelletizer. Mono-, dual- and triple-strand dies are available.High-precision gravimetric dosing stations ensure a dosing accuracy of ± 1 %. The throughput range isfrom 50 g/h to 70 kg/h. Different types of cooling belts provide the best cooling capacity for each throughput and strand type.

Blown Film Line with water coolingThese lines are designed for up to 7-layer films. Thenew spiral distribution system provides accurate thickness distribution. Vertical extrusion into a watercooling ring provides optimum film transparency.The maximum lay-flat width is 530 mm. Throughput is up to 100 kg/h.The worldwide unique modular design of the lines allows the separation of the raw material conveyingand extrusion part from the film section of the line. Dueto the design of the platforms the film section can beengineered as a small clean room. This minimizes investment costs and operational costs for a cleanroom production on the lowest possible level. In addition the lines can easily be upgraded from 3 to 7layer by just adding new extruders on the platform andchanging the number of die plates.

Tablet CalendersTypes: PK 40, PK 60, PK 110 and PK 200These machines are based on the 40 years experienceof Collin® in building roll mills. The PK 40 and PK 60 aredesigned for production of small batches mainly in thepreclinical screening phase. They fit perfectly to the size of the compounders MZK 12 and MZK 16. Completed with drying and cooling belts they buildproduction lines of minimum sizes.For production scale the PK 110 und PK 200 are usedfor more then 10 years in the industry. When combinedwith a compounder from the MKZ series, melt pump,flat film die and cooling belt, a complete pill productionline can be established.A touch screen system controls the process and givesa wide range of parameters for filing, evaluation and reporting.

Catheter LinesVarious types of extruders betweenME16 and ME30 provide a throughputrange from 0.05 kg/h up to 15 kg/h.The modular design of the line components assures high flexibility inproduction. The product range con-sists of coating wires, mono-layer,multi- layer, mono-lumen, triple-lumen catheters. The materials usedare polyolefins and polyurethanes,flexible PVC and polyamides. The linecovers the diameter range between0.5 mm and 5 mm at a maximum linespeed of 100 m/min.Diameter-controlled haul-off speedprovides tight diameter tolerances.

MDO Stretching Lines for FilmStretching of polymer films improvestheir properties in many ways. This isa continuous process in the machinedirection. The lines consist of an extrusion section, the stretching unit,haul-off and winder. The stretchingunit consists of a heated roll stack,stretching roll stack and chill rollstack. Any stretching ratio up to 1:10is possible in conjunction with a maximum haul-off speed up of to 50 m/min. The lines are available inwidths up to 350 mm and 600 mm.Types: MDO I 350, MDO I 600, 1 stretching gap, MDO II 350, MDO II 600, 2 stretchinggaps,MDO III 350, MDO III 600 with IR heating

The core of the MDO 600 S is thestretching module (see rollers No. 9 –14 of picture right). With two rollers(No. 10 and 13) adjustable in positiona wide range of stretching gap settings is possible. All rollers can beliquid-heated up to 2300C. For polymers which tend to adhere to the roller surface when heated tostretching temperature, additional IR heating elements can be applied.The four separate units of the MDOcan be operated via individual controlpanels or via the central operationand control board.Typ: MDO 600 S

Multi Filament Line CMF 100The CMF 100 is an ideal system fortesting and developing multi-filamentfibers. The capabilities of this compact, modular line have been selected to make it extremely well suited for pilot production as well asshort production runs. Thanks to extremely short cleaning cycles, theequipment is very economical whenmaterials are changed frequently.The hinged safety enclosure ensuresa high level of safety for the operatorand reduces the noise level. Use of high-performance machine components that are also foundin production machinery makes itpossible to use the results obtainedfor production scale-up.Typ: CMF 100

Strap and MonofilamentStretching LineLines for the production of tapes(from PP) and monofilamentsinclude the following compo-nents:Extruder – die – cooling bath – set of three nip rollers I – stretching oven – set of three godet roIIers II – winder.The addition of further two orthree godet rollers is possible.This comes with two or three further heating or annealing zones.
