This was the first victory in SKF for Nyck De Vries (Zanardi/Parilla). The

young talent managed by Dino Chiesa, already under contract with Anthony Hamilton and McLaren, was able to stay ahead of everyone during his fifth race in the ”top of kart-ing” category. After pole position in the superpole and having suffered a bit in some laps, Nyck De Vries went on to the pre-finals in sixth position. Here he came out to play with Gary Catt (Tony Kart/Vortex) and [4] Armand Convers (Kosmic/Vortex) awarding himself the race. In the finals there was a rematch: The Dutchman found himself in a nice dual with the leader Convers. The Frenchman however finished in seventh surpassed even by Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex) keeping hope alive for the Italian and De Vries to fight it out for the title. [6] Arnaud Kozlinski (CRG/Maxter) and Sauro Cesetti (Birel/BMB) were forced to start behind the front lines (in twenty-fourth and twenty-eighth

positions respectively) but they accomplished a good recovery that lead them to pick up third and fifth places in the finals. Even Ardigò, in the finals advanced rather well, he went from eleventh position in the pre-finals (but had even arrived at one point to be in twenty-fifth place) until placing second in the finals. Among the younger drivers who did well were [2] Ben Cooper (Kosmic/Vortex), Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart/Vortex) and Felice Tiene (CRG/Maxter): the first won the first two laps and started in pole position in the pre-finals, the second found

himself in an ongoing battle with the first, while Tiene, de-spite some technical prob-lems, was, and is often the best of CRG on the track. [5] Matteo Viganò (Birel/Parilla) had problems all weekend long, but finished out with an outstanding ninth place. [1] Oliver Rowland (Zanardi/Parilla), Simo Puhakka (PCR/TM) and [3] Zdenek Gro-man (Maranello/Parilla)also finished well. // CARICA

OLANDESE Prima vittoria in SKF per Nyck De Vries (Zanardi/Parilla). Il baby talento gestito da Dino Chiesa, già sotto contratto con Anthony Hamilton e la McLaren, è riuscito a stare davanti a tutti alla sua quinta gara nella categoria top del karting. Dopo la pole position nella Superpo-le e delle manche tribolate, Nyck De Vries parte per la prefi nale in sesta posizione. Qui, se la gioca con Gary Catt (Tony Kart/Vortex) e [4] Armand Convers (Kosmic/Vortex), aggiudicandosi comunque la gara. In fi nale si replica: con l’olandese autore di un bel duello proprio con il capoclassifi ca Convers. Il francese chiu-derà poi settimo superato anche da Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart/Vortex), lascian-do così speranze all’italiano e a De Vries per la lotta per

il titolo. [6] Arnaud Kozlin-ski (CRG/Maxter) e Sauro Cesetti (Birel/BMB) sono co-stretti a partire dalle retrovie (rispettivamente dalla venti-quattresima e ventottesima posizione) ma compiono grandi rimonte che li porta-no a raccogliere un terzo e un quinto posto in fi nale. Anche Ardigò, in fi nale, sale molto bene dall’undicesima posizione in prefi nale (ma arriverà ad essere anche venticinquesimo) fi no al secondo posto in fi nale. Dei giovani fanno bene [2] Ben Cooper (Kosmic/Vortex), Flavio Camponeschi (Tony Kart/Vortex) e Felice Tiene (CRG/Maxter): il primo vince due manche e parte dalla pole in prefi nale, il secondo si trova in lotta con i primi, mentre Tiene, nonostante qualche problema tecnico, è spesso il migliore dei CRG in pista. First in the pre-finals and in the finals: Jonathan Thonon (CRG/Maxter)

won indisputably. He showed himself as a true leader in this race that highlighted his superiority on the Belgian circuit. It was a clean and precise victory that at times seemed al-most ‘simple’ with his com-petition having problems on the wet track. Of those who were following behind and who are worthy of a men-tion is Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart/Vortex) who is getting better race by race: even if his lap times are still far away from those of Thonon. The Belgian is able to man-age the karts strongly and well, as was demonstrated in the pre-finals when he was involved in some in-race contacts and had to remount, which he did so without difficulty. This left [1] Bas Lammers (Intrepid/TM) having to smooth out a disadvantage of 25 points: the former classification leader passed an excellent weekend right up to the final phases. However, in the pre-finals he had to be satis-

fied with taking third place right behind Dreezen after a dual with [2] Anthony Abbasse (Sodi Kart/TM). In the finals Lammers fell behind and came back time and time again: at the end he wound up in fourth place. In KZ1 the surprise is named Jorrit Pex (CRG/TM): the Dutch driver on Friday even took out pole posi-tion. Then during the finals, at a certain point he found himself to be in second, but finished with an excellent third place in front of Lam-mers. In the finals Yannick De Brabander (Intrepid/TM) did well and came in fifth, as did [3] Manuel Renaudie (PCR/TM) who came in sixth. The KZ2 saw its triumph of the championships in the form of [5] Paolo De Conto (Energy/TM), in the pre-fi-nals the Italian supported by Michele Panigada remained attached to the KZ1 group that was follow-ing Thonon. In the finals, when there was nothing more left to lose, he had to settle for third tier of the po-dium leaving the victory to an excellent driver: [6] Yard

Tra gli inseguitori, si mette in mostra Rick Dreezen (Tony Kart/Vortex) che migliora gara dopo gara. Anche se i tempi sul giro sono ancora lontani da quelli di Thonon (che gestisce bene, forte anche di un mezzo vali-do): il belga in prefi nale è coinvolto in alcuni contatti al via e deve rimontare, riuscendoci, apparente-mente senza fatica. Ora [1] Bas Lammers (Intrepid/TM) deve colmare uno svantag-gio di 25 punti: l’ex leader della classifi ca ha vissuto un ottimo weekend fi no alle fasi fi nali. Poi, in prefi nale, si è dovuto accontentare di un terzo posto dietro a Dreezen, dopo un duello con [2] Anthony Abbasse (Sodi Kart/TM). In fi nale perde e rimonta posizioni

più volte: alla fi ne è quarto. In KZ1 la sorpresa si chiama Jorrit Pex (CRG/TM): il pilota olandese, venerdì, addirit-tura stacca la pole position. Poi, in fi nale a un certo pun-to si ritrova anche secondo, ma chiude con un ottimo terzo posto davanti a Lam-mers. In fi nale bene Yannick De Brabander (Intrepid/TM), quinto, e [3] Manuel Renaudie (PCR/TM), sesto. La KZ2 vede l’annunciato trionfo in campionato, e con una gara d’anticipo, di [5] Paolo De Conto (Energy/TM). L’italiano, supportato dalla struttura di Michele Panigada, in prefi nale rimane addirittura attaccato al gruppetto di KZ1 che insegue Thonon. In fi nale, quando si tratta di non rischiar nulla, si accon-tenta del terzo gradino del podio lasciando la vittoria a un grande [6] Yard Pex (CRG/TM) e il secondo po-sto alla sorpresa di Genk: [4] Beitske Visser (Intrepid/TM). La quindicenne che, inoltre, vince una delle manche davanti ai KZ1.

The battle for the Euro Series title is between Ignazio D’Agosto (Tony

Kart/Vortex) and [6] Nicolaj Moller Madsen (Energy/TM); but as for winning, all eyes turned toward Jacob Nortoft (FA Kart/Vortex) who is com-ing back into the game. D’Agosto did well in laps dur-ing the pre-finals and started second. At the start of the race he lost ground but then came back and finished in eighth place. During the finals he narrowly missed having a mega-accident and was still able to finish in second, bring-ing home 35 points in the process, compared to Moller Madsen’s 15 points and who finished the day in fourth. Nicolaj had some technical problems during the laps and therefore entered the final phase with great difficulty, but he didn’t give himself up for dead and moved ahead position by position and was even able to stick his nose out in front of his rival D’Agosto for a brief moment by then concluding the race in fourth (limiting his loses). But the real star is Jacob Nortoft: The Dane from team Ricky Flynn Motorsports, after his good performances in Lonato and Zuera, at Genk he brought home a full house: all the points: The plunderer spoke of a victory in the finals, pre-finals, and

three victories (with a second post) in the laps, which were all worth the pole. Also with a strong showing were Karol Basz (RK/BMB), who was always among the leaders in the initial phases of the weekend and who came in third, both after the laps and during the two finals: The Polish driver from team Robert Kubica (run by Birel Motorsport) demonstrated a good speed, while being thrust by a new BMB engine. Mathematically eliminated from the championship is [5] Michelle Gatting (CRG/Maxter): the little blonde-haired girl from the CRG Junior Team finished the pre-finals in second, but in the finals she finished nineteenth due to a “nudge” by Loic Reguillon (Intrepid/TM) who was in good form the entire weekend despite being dis-qualified in the end for hav-ing caused said accident. [4] Luke Varley (Tony Kart/Vortex), [2] Stefano Cucco (Birel/Parilla), Lars Sorensen, (Birel/BMB) and Yu Kanamaru (Tony Kart/Vortex) also did

very well over the weekend: the Japanese driver fell back in the finals however (he finished in tenth). In fi nale evita un superinci-dente e riesce a concludere secondo, portando a casa 35 punti, contro i 15 di Moller Madsen, quarto. Nicolaj nelle manche ha problemi tecnici ed entra a stento nella fase fi nale, ma non si dà per vinto e recupera posizioni su posizioni, riuscendo addirittu-ra a mettere il naso davanti al rivale D’Agosto, salvo poi concludere quarto (limitando i danni). Ma il protagonista è Jacob Nortoft: il danese del team Ricky Flynn Motorsports, dopo le buone prestazioni di Lonato e Zuera, a Genk ha portato a casa punteg-gio pieno: il bottino parla di vittoria in fi nale, in prefi nale e tre vittorie (con un secondo posto) nelle manche, che

gli sono valse la pole. Bene Karol Basz (RK/BMB), sempre tra i primi nelle fasi iniziali del week end e terzo, sia dopo le manche, sia nelle due fi nali: il polacco del team di Robert Kubica (gestito dalla struttura Birel Motorsport) dimostra un bon passo, spinto dal nuovo motore BMB. Esclusa aritmeticamente dal cam-pionato [5] Michelle Gatting (CRG/Maxter): la biondina dello Junior Team CRG chiude seconda in prefi nale, ma in fi nale grazie a una “spintina” di Loic Reguillon (Intrepid/TM), bravo per tutto il week end salvo poi essere squalifi cato per aver causato l’incidente, si gira, conclu-dendo solamente dicianno-vesima. Ottimi anche [4] Luke Varley (Tony Kart/Vortex), [2] Stefano Cucco (Birel/Parilla), Lars Sorensen (Birel/BMB) e Yu Kanamaru (Tony Kart/Vortex): il giapponese, però, cala un po’ in fi nale (è decimo). [1] Lindsey Butcher (Tony Kart/Vortex) stupisce tutti compiendo ben venticinque sorpassi (ottava alla fi ne). Before the weekend in Genk the champion-ship classification of

KF3 drivers was clear: Max Verstappen (CRG/Maxter) was on a downhill run with an 87 point advantage over his leading adversary Alexander Albon (Intrepid/TM) with 130 points left up for grabs in the last two trials. However, with the race at Genk Albon tried to apply pressure on Verstappen. The English driver of the Intrepid seemed to be in the race right from the get go, just like in Lonato (maybe even more so because at Genk neither was he unlucky nor forced to start from the back of the line like in the second round of the WSK Euro Series where the Briton won it all): at the end of the laps he was in second while Verstappen was only in seventh. The son of the ex-Formula1 driver Jos suffered a bit from some problems related to his vehicle’s set up which prohibited him from making the best out of his kart - a little too slippery - concluded the final in second place. Albon, with

his Intrepid, was able to hold the most important position for the entire weekend and conquered the victory in both the pre-final and final, bringing home a full score; the understanding between driver and vehicle seemed to be in constant growth. It must be said that Verstap-pen however, has remained solidly at the top of the classifications, closing with an advantage of 62 points out of 65 still available dur-ing the last trial of the Euro Series WSK 2010 in Sarno. Placing third in the final was the exceptional Dutchman Hoevenaars (Intrepid/TM), winner of a few laps but who in the race wasn’t able to yield any good ,tangible results. Things went very well for the Frenchman [5] Pierre Gasly (Sodi Kart/Parilla), who was second in the pre-final and who succeeded to stay ahead before a technical problem forced him to bail out. In fourth was [4] Robert Visoiu (Tony Kart/Vortex),

who held the record for the fastest round of the finals, followed by [1] Jake Dennis (Top Kart/Parilla), [2] Egor Orudzhev (Intrepid/TM), [6] Luca Caspari (Energy/TM) and [3] Hazz Truelove (Tony Kart/Vortex). // È TEMPO DI ALBON Prima del week end di Genk la classifica del campionato piloti KF3, par-lava chiaro: Max Verstap-pen (CRG/Maxter) aveva la strada in discesa forte dei suoi 87 punti di vantaggio sull’avversario Alexander Albon (Intrepid/TM) con 130 punti a disposizione nelle ultime due prove. (forse di più, perché a Genk non è né infortunato, né è costretto a partire dal fondo dello schieramento come nel secondo round della WSK Euro Series, in cui l’ingle-se ha vinto): al termine delle manche è secondo, mentre Verstappen è solo settimo. Il fi glio dell’ex Formula 1 Jos soffre un po’ per alcuni problemi legati al set up del mezzo che gli impediscono di sfruttarlo al meglio, ma nonostante il kart un po’ troppo scivoloso, conclude la fi nale al secondo posto. Albon, con il suo Intrepid, riesce a occupare le posi-zioni più importanti per tutto il week end e conquista la vittoria sia in prefi nale sia in fi nale, portando a casa il punteggio pieno. L’intesa fra pilota e mezzo sembra in

costante crescita. Va detto che Verstappen, però, rima-ne saldamente in testa alla classifi ca, chiudendo con 62 punti di vantaggio sui 65 ancora disponibili nell’ultima prova dell’Euro Series WSK 2010 a Sarno. Terzo, in fi nale, l’ottimo olandese Peter Hoevenaars (Intrepid/TM), vincitore di alcune manche, ma che in gara non riesce a far fruttare al meglio la sua buona vena. Molto bene anche il francese [5] Pierre Gasly (Sodi Kart/Parilla) che, secondo in prefi nale, riesce a stare lì davanti, prima che un problema tecnico lo costringa a fermarsi. Quarto [4] Robert Visoiu (Tony Kart/Vortex), autore anche del giro più veloce della fi nale. It is the pursuit of ‘records’ that is paving the way for the opening of the WSK

World Series. The name says it all, for the fi rst time ever the most sought after title in all of international karting will not be awarded by a competition branded CIK-FIA, but by WSK Promotion. An outfi t that has in just a few short years been able to win over public opinion, drivers and builders alike, while positioning its events as a reference point for the worldwide karting move-ment. The awards of which they were talking about however cannot be explai-ned by a single defi nition but embody real concrete events, like for example the allocation of not only the

category “queen” Super KF, but also KF2, KF3, and K72, bringing honor to the single-speed transmission radial kart, and to both expe-rienced drivers and young hopefuls alike. All together working towards con-quering a title that will be united on three continents (another novelty): From America (Milville) to Europe (Portimao) all leading up to the grand fi nale in Africa in captivating Sharm El Sheikh. It will be however the Por-tuguese circuit of Portimao that will bring forth other re-cords: like what had already happened in 2008 in Zuera, in fact, it will be the karts of WSK that will inaugurate the 532 meters of brand new asphalt. The races that will

take place during the fi rst few days of July, however will be for everyone invol-ved a ‘fi rst of its kind’ just as the fact that two “World Cups” (which are making their entry during that same weekend in the same com-plex) will be: the WSK - of which we just mentioned - and the WTCC. The new

Portuguese Kart Track, in fact, will be united with the futuristic’ Autodromo Inter-nacional do Algarve’ crea-ting a real “motor citadel” that will be second to none in all of Europe. Both of the scheduled events will have an independent life on their respective circuits, but na-turally the exchange of visits

FIRST ROUND: PORTIMAO (P)

The second stop of the WSK World Series is in the USA, at the New Jersey Motorsport Park in Milville. Near the Airport, the park is situated inside an all-purpose structure with the largest track being the “Thiunder-bolt Raceway” that measures over 3.5 kms. The kart track is located in the north area of the complex, inside the Lightning Raceway (1.9 mi-les) of which at its longest extension measures 1.1 miles (1.769 km). It can be confi gured in up to 8 different track formations, navigable both clockwise and counter-clockwise. For the most important events the track is usually laid out in what is called the Tempest Confi guration (1.03 miles or 1.675 km). // La seconda tappa della WSK World Series è negli USA, presso il New Jersey Motorsport Park a Milville. The Ghibli Raceway at Sharm el Sheikh is however a structure entirely dedicated to karting. Situated in one of the world’s most famous touristic areas the track extends to a length of 1,308 meters. I was the fi rst circuit in the “Middle East Region” to obtain an international “A” license it and routinely hosts important high level races. Here the Rotax Max Challen-ge Grand Final has been held twice, with the last time being in 2009. It is already possible onli-ne to fi ll in the sign up form for the WSK World

Series 2010; WSK’s world championship is divided into 3 trials: the European Race (Portimao), the Ame-rican Race (Millville) and the African Race (Sharm el Sheikh). It is possible to register in one of 4 catego-ries (SKF, KF2, KF3, e K72), it is also possible however to participate individually in any one of these races. The registration deadline is June 18th 2010, and for Super KF and K72 only the fi rst 51 applications received by the organizing committee will be accepted, whereas for KF2 and KF3 the fi rst 73 applicants will be accep-ted. For all verifi ed drivers who will also take part in the

qualifi cations there will even be a participation bonus worth ten points. For the fi nal score of the WSK World Series the only points that count will be those from the last three races, whereas to determine the winner of the single continental trials we will count the order of arrival at the fi nal. // Già da ora è possibile complilare il for-mulario on line per iscriversi alla WSK World Series 2010, il campionato mondiale by WSK articolato su tre prove: European Race (Portimao), American Race (Milville) e African Race (Sharm el Sheikh). MASTER SERIES IS STARTING // MASTERS SERIES AL VIA

Registration is already open even for the WSK Master Series, a new proposal by WSK Promotion which will be held entirely on Italian circuits (Siena, Val Vibrata and Castelletto di Branduzzo). The races will be held in the customary format, the organization and the large media co-verage guaranteed by WSK is making for a championship that will challenge pilots of four categories: the “classics” K72, KF2 and KF3, who in fact will come side to side with the class dedica-ted to the youngest drivers: the 60 mini,

WSK NORTH AMERICAEven the USA is talking... In April WSK launched

the WSK North Ameri-can Series organized by CKI, and has alrea-dy lived to tell the tale from the races at New Castle and Glendale, and they are gearing up for the appointment at the end of June in Millville, the same circuit that one month later will host the WSK World Series. // WSK NORTH AMERICA Anche gli USA parlano...
