We  have  established    a  global    

organisa2on

Geek   Girls   Carrots   was   founded   in   2011.   It   should   be  pointed   out   –   in  Warsaw.  Many   people   ask   us   about   the  parent   organisaDon   in   the  West.   It   is   greeted   with   slight  incredulity   that   two   girls   at   the  Vistula   river   conceived   an  idea  of  a  project  that  currently  funcDons  in  ten  countries!  

We  are  a  community  that   is  oriented  towards  women  who  love  or  want  to   love  new  technologies.  However,   it  should  be  pointed  out  that  there  are  also  men  in  our  ranks,  which  is  something  we  are  very  pleased  about  <3  

The   idea   that  moDvates   us   is   to   aOract  women   to   IT.  We  implement   it   by   organising   regular   community   meeDngs,  workshops  –  mainly  soPware  development   trainings  –  and  promoDon  of  IT  women  in  the  media.    

Our   acDviDes   are   financed   mainly   by   co-­‐operaDon   with  business   and   commercial   projects   in   areas   such   as  recruitment,   promoDon   and   business   consulDng.   Soon  we  will   also   have   an   offer   for   individuals.   So   far,  we   have   not  collected  large  sums  of  funds  for  our  business.  Nonetheless,  we  have  done  a  lot  of  good  for  thousands  of  people.  

We  have  learned  that  what  social  iniDaDves  need  in  the  first  place   is   commiOed   people,   persistence   in   achieving   the  objecDves   and   good   PR.   On   the   other   hand,   in   order   to  make  a  significant  social  change  not  only  in  Poland,  but  also  in  the  world,  we  need  to  increase  revenues  and  profits.    

We  operate   in   a   spirit   of   a   social   enterprise   –   it   is   a   legal  form  taken  from  the  West,  which  has  not  been  formalised  in  Poland   yet.  We  want   to   be   the   case   on  which   the   law   is  built.    

In   our   business,   we   are   guided   by   two   fundamental  principles.   Firstly,   the   enDre   profit   from   our   acDviDes   is  earmarked   for   social   acDviDes.   Secondly,   all   projects   we  undertake,  including  the  commercial  ones,  must  support  our  mission.

It   is  high  Dme   for   the  figures.   In   this  Summary  we  present  you  first  of  all  with  our  finance  data  in  order  to  show  where  we  get  the  money  for  our  business  and  where  we  spend  it.  We  want   to   emphasise   that  with   a   relaDvely   small   budget  we   have   created   a   global   organisaDon.   APer   the   stage   of  growth,  the  Dme  has  come  to  moneDse.  This  is  what  we  are  working  on  now.    

We   have   idenDfied   two   periods:   the   period   of   acDvity   of  Geek  Girls  Carrots  and  the  period  between  2013  and  2014,  which  was   the  Dme  of   the  highest   growth.  At   the   end  we  present  the  scope  of  acDviDes  we  have  achieved  since  the  beginning  of  our  business.

About  us,  our  community  ...  My  $me  at  Geek  Girls  Carrots  has  granted  me  many  opportuni$es  —  to  become  a  woman  working  in  technology;  give  back  to  my  local  community;  make  friends  all  over  the  world  and   forge   professional   connec$ons,   but   achieving   all   of   this   was   not   without   its  challenges.  

When   I  first   joined   the  organisa$on,   I  was  unsure  of  how   I  would  fit   into   the  world  of  technology;  never  did  I  think  I’d  actually  be  able  to  say  I  worked  for  a  company  opera$ng  within  the  Tech  space,  but  Geek  Girls  Carrots  gave  me  that—and  with  it,  the  confidence  and  determina$on  to  make  a  place  for  myself  within  the  Tech  industry.  My  biggest  hope  for  Geek  Girls  Carrots  is  that  she  will  con$nue  to  grow  and  prosper,  because  what  we  say  is  true:  The  only  thing  standing  between  a  woman  and  technology   is  herself…it  was  an  honor   to   play   a   small   part   in   proving   just   how   true   this   is,   both   to  myself,   and   to   the  women  of  my  community.

Django   Carrots   are   programming   workshops   but   only   in   their   first  layer.   They   are   also   a   chance   to   change   the  way   of   thinking   about  yourself  and  your  place  on  the  job  market.  It’s  an  opportunity  to  meet  women   (and   not   only),   who   are   inspiring,   whose   path   of   personal  development  encourage  to  take  ac2on  on  one’s  aims.  

Last   but   not   least,   it’s   a   possibility   to   get   to   know   the   professional  environment,  which  is  incredible.  I  have  never  met  a  voca2onal  group  with   such  an  open  approach   to   share  with   its   knowledge,   skills   and  what  is  mostly  crucial  -­‐  with  its  2me,  for  free.

Since  2011,  Geek  Girls  Carrots  has  been  growing  organically,  without  grants,  sponsors  and  EU  subsidies.  We  cover  the  costs  of  our  operaDons  primarily  from  services  provided  to  the  business.  Geek  Girls  Carrots  is  developing  well  thanks  to  the  commitment  of  the  Management  Team,  Organisers  and  Mentors  who  work  in  Geek  Girls  Carrots  pro  bono.  Only  one  person  from  the  Management  Team  -­‐  Assistant  Team  receives  a  salary,  but  it  is  below  market  rates.  The  financial  objecDve  for  2015  is  to  aOract  more  funds  for  our  social  projects  and  to  pay  market  salaries  to  the  Management  Team  of  Geek  Girls  Carrots.
