Derangement of function within the body may occur due to
multiple causes like diet, life style and environment.
The resultant diseases may manifest in a gradual way,
where in initial phase symptoms may be absent or in mild.
At later stage there may be complex manifestations. The
illness may become chronic or of a long standing nature.
One such affliction is Vatarakta.
![Page 3: Suman Singh Vd. B. R. Patel Ph.D. Scholar Assistant Professor singh.pdf · 2019-05-09 · Suman Singh Vd. B. R. Vatarakta is caused by vitiation of Vata and Rakta.
It is related with Kha-Vaigunya of Raktavaha Srotas,
the vitiated Rakta gravitates and accumulates in the
feet. In the intial stage, the hands and feets are
affected. The illness then spreads all over the body like
rat poison.

Lifestyle diseases also sometimes called diseases of
longevity or diseases of civilization interchangeably,
are commonly caused by unhealthy eating, alcohol,
drug and smoking abuse as well as lack of physical
activity.
Due to continuous faulty lifestyle accumulation of
morbid elements occurs in the body and on long
standing manifest as severe or uncontrollable diseases.
![Page 5: Suman Singh Vd. B. R. Patel Ph.D. Scholar Assistant Professor singh.pdf · 2019-05-09 · Suman Singh Vd. B. R. Present work was conducted to critically review and
analyze the diet and lifestyle related aetiological
factors (Nidana) mentioned in the Vatarakta adhyaya
of Bruhattrayi, with their possible correlation and
prevalence in current scenario.

Acharya vagbhatta mentioned Vidahi anna as theprimary cause for vatarakta in Vataraktanidana adhyaya. It causes vidagdhajirna in koshta and simultaneouslyvitiates the Rakta dhatu
Krodha is mentioned as the manasika nidana forvatarakta which is the total outcome of todays busy andstressful life.
The existing diet pattern among the population i.e.,Junkfood, Chinese, Punjabi and excess intake of cheese, aerated drinks preserved, chilled and packaged food allcontributes to the vitiation of doshas.
