FENUXE 3.14.2013
WINTER IS ALMOST OVER and I couldn't be more excited! In this issue of FENUXE, we're celebrating all things spring with our quarterly fashion installment. It's an incredible time of year for bright and simple threads — we lose the heavy drapery and embrace the light and skimpy. Admittedly, I jumped the gun last weekend and pulled my shorts out of storage … and Lord help me ... I've got to get back in the gym! :)
Our two Preview Events at Burkhart's were smashing successes and I had a fantastic time mingling with the Bachelor Nominees, hanging out with Angelica D’Paige, and meeting all of the great guys and gals who came out. Be sure to buy your tickets early for the Main Event on April 6, 2013 at Burkhart's! (To purchase tickets, visit fenuxe.com/bachelor.) The top 10 most eligible Bachelors will be auctioned off for an exciting date package, and all the money we raise will benefi t AID Atlanta!
If you've turned on the news lately, you know that funding for HIV/AIDS relief is being threatened by budget cuts. The recent “sequester” eliminated a large chunk of funding for Georgia HIV/AIDS organizations, so it is more important than ever that we continue the great work these organizations have accomplished.
I hope you enjoy the rest of this issue and the wonderful weather we're having, and I can't wait to see all of you at Burkhart's on April 6!

FASHION
Early signs of spring are not limited to chirping birds, blooming daffodils, and convertibles riding topless. Spring also equals T-shirts instead of sweatshirts and pants replaced by shorts. Yes, spring is indeed a time for updating your wardrobe and becoming a sunnier, happier springtime you!
The trends for the upcoming spring season are as abundant as the colors of the soon-to-bloom trees and flowers. Luckily, a good portion of the trends are an updated continuation of last year’s spring/summer looks, so you don’t need to rush out and replace all of your clothing — smart additions and a little updating will do. Here is how!
Spring in YOUR STEPJohn Hilton, Fashion Contributor
FUN WITH FRIENDSThis is where you let loose and relax but look your absolute casual best at the same time. Last year’s color blocking trend continues, but it seems like the hues are even brighter this year. Also, camouflage on everything is a cool and casual way to show your style along with all the denim of this season — preferably worn monochrome, that is perfectly matched denim from head to toe. Finally, get out those print shirts, pants, and tees, which can be as bold and colorful as you wish!

WORK IT 9 TO 5For the working hours of the day there is no need to settle for the same ol’ same ol’. Update your wardrobe with a classic navy suit (the ‘it’ color for suiting this year), and if your boss lets you go very casual on Fridays, why not try a short suit? Or at least mix up your blazer with a pair of (short) shorts. If you are more into making a strong impression in order to move up the career ladder (in style!), mix in some cool metallics on everything from shoes, bags, or even a jacket.

Dress to ImpressThere are always times when you need that extra something in order to woo, convince, or please that significant other, be it a date, boss, or friend. The right accessory will update any look so amp up your style with a great bag. Another way to impress is by wearing subtle pastels in a way that makes them (and you!) look stylish and ever so cool. If you are going for the most clean-cut and challenging look of them all, dress in crisp monochrome white (again from head to toe). You will have everyone spellbound in an instant.

PERSOL REFLEX EDITIONThe sun is out and it is time for those hip shades. In the last couple of years the heavy-framed and retro Mad Men style has prevailed, and even though we will still keep it retro, the look is a little lighter and contemporary. At FENUXE we are in love with these Persol sunglasses that may be inspired by vintage cameras, but are so now! Persol Reflex Edition sunglasses start at $360.

When her brother was diagnosed with leukemia and given a few short months to live, Gloria Barghi’s world was turned upside down. Devastated but ready for battle at the tender age of 15, she vowed to help him fight his way out of the dismal forecast. A year after his diagnosis, after chemo and countless medications, her brother’s cancer went into remission and changed the lives of everyone around him — especially his family’s. Taking a long, hard look at the toxins all around them, they pledged to start cherishing every moment and to start living as healthy as possible. Introduced to the world of grapes by her father, an organic winemaker, Gloria was struck by inspiration.
“We began doing more research on grapes, their skin and seeds, and the results were wonderful!” she tells FENUXE. “We found that most of the nutritional value of grapes is in the skin and seeds so we did more research. The more we dug, the more we found and the better the results.”
Thus, Array Organics was born.
“The whole idea behind Array Organics is that everything is infused with some part of the grape, whether it is the skin, seeds, oil, or the juice,” she says. “All products are organic and we take great pride in processing our grapes by hand and making sure everything is handled using zero chemicals.”
During her years of research, Barghi discovered an alarming amount of toxins that can legally be added to eye creams and nail polishes, such as formaldehyde and antifreeze.
“I found out that the cosmetics industry is self-regulated in the United States and has
been for the past 30 years. This means that cosmetic companies can put anything they want in their products and they don’t have to disclose it.”
If you’re not too keen on toxins and carcinogens in your beauty products, Array Organics is a good fit for you. Peruse their line of high-quality, toxin-free products, all inspired by grapes, at BornSkinCare.com.
feNuXe recommends:
The Source for Sensitive Skin $80 – This is pure, minimally refined muscadine oil in its most potent form. Muscadines are considered the “miracle grape” as they contain the highest levels of Vitamin E and antioxidants found in any berry. The nourishing facial oil is lightweight and easily absorbed, leaving an instant velvety softness. The Source for Sensitive Skin is perfect for all skin types, including those with skin conditions such as acne, eczema, rashes, or psoriasis.
The Source for Muscle $42 – Green muscadine oil is blended with eucalyptus oil to produce a natural, calming salve for achy areas. The Native Americans used muscadines for their strong medicinal value, as they’re a natural anti-inflammatory that helps loosen sore muscles. The soothing, almost minty scent adds the “ooh” to the “ahh” for that extra dose of relaxation.
The Source for Men $50 – This organic blend of grape seed oil, castor oil, and oil of jojoba works great in preventing razor burn, loosening thick beard air, and moisturizing the skin. The Source for Men can also be used as an aftershave or a nightly moisturizer.

COLOGNE
Berlin Sylvestre, Staff Writer
AROMATICALLY
A SEXY SCENT IS AN INCREDIBLY HOT ADDITION TO YOUR VISAGE. INTENSE AND PRIMAL, THERE ARE FEW WAY TO BURN YOUR MEMORY INTO THE MINDS OF YOUR ADMIRERS THAT HAVE THE SAME IMPACT AS SCENT. WITH THAT IN MIND, WE’VE PUT TOGETHER A COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO HELP MAXIMIZE YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE GOOD STUFF.
OTHER CONSIDERATIONS
Check the weather. It’s a nice touch to smell a bit citrusy in warmer months. Just like spring brings out the bright colors, a lightly-scented citrus spritz just feels right. In the cooler months, add a little heat to your nights out with a scent that carries spicy undertones.
Be mindful of your bodywash. If you’re scrubbing up with heavily scented soap, be aware that it could clash with your cologne. It’s best to opt for lightly scented suds if you want to broadcast the good stuff you’re putting on afterward.
Be age appropriate. It’s perfectly normal for a teenaged boy to bathe in Abercrombie and Fitch’s Fierce or Tag Body Spray. (Normal, but not exactly desirable.) Once you cross the “boy to man” threshold, don’t dabble in childish things.
One last thing: Cologne is not a backup for deodorant, so don’t use it to prevent that “not so fresh feeling,” guys. (We didn’t have to tell you that, did we? Silly FENUXE.)
BUYING
Finding the right scent requires patience. You can’t expect to walk into the mall and nab the most compatible bottle of cologne for your personal chemistry right away. The way it smells in the bottle and in the air is not going to be the way it smells on your skin, and many factors are going to influence whether a particular bouquet is right for you. Your own pheromones will change the nature of the cologne, so start out with a scent you like, try it on, then let it rest as you walk around the mall for a while. If it still smells good after 20 minutes (or smells better than before), you know you’ve found a winner.
Let’s face it: The good stuff can be pretty expensive. If you hastily plunk down the dough for a bottle that you end up hating, you’ll wind up with nothing more than a dusty bathroom ornament. Done right, you’ll have the final touch to your sex appeal that’ll truly set you apart.
HOW
You spent all that hard-earned money on a fresh bottle of “smell good.” Now, it’s time to apply it the way it was intended.
For an all-over application, hold the bottle 3 to 6 inches away from your body (preferably while you’re shirtless) and walk into the mist.
Always spray the cologne on your skin — never your clothes. There is perhaps no application more criminal than spraying it on fabric for two reasons. First, it’s a complete waste, as cologne is designed to be sprayed on warm bodies and will neither translate nor project well from fabric. Second, as soon as the cologne starts to “die,” the residue left behind reeks of chemical funk. You don’t want that.
WHERE
Cologne works best on body parts that warm up well. The same can be said for parts on which you can feel your pulse. A good way to apply is to spritz one of your wrists, and then rub them together until it’s absorbed. (Inner elbows are a nice spot, too.) From there, you can either rub your wrists on each side of your neck, starting just under your ears and rubbing downward, or simply apply a small amount directly below your ears. A bit on your chest works well too, as it tends to stay warm and makes for some really sexy snuggling.
Body parts that broadcast your natural smell take kindly to cologne, too. Remember though: If it’s a part someone might be getting hot and heavy with, don’t do them the disservice of hosing it down with smell good. (Hint: It tastes bloody awful.)

ONCE BITTEN
In 1953, Gucci broke ground with their horsebit loafer, a stylish homage to equestrian pedestrian fashion. (A horse bit is the metal device placed into a horse’s mouth attached to the reins.) The polished, miniature version of the device is placed front and center on Gucci’s snappy shoe, and for six decades has been a trademark of the Italian luxe line.
With the loafer’s 60th anniversary, the original series has been brought back for the masses to revel in that old-school cool ’50s look with today’s more resilient production quality.
A limited release from Gucci’s 1921 collection, this hand-shaded loafer is leather-soled with a horsebit coated lightly in gold. $590
Gucci’s Damo driving loafer is hand-shaded and includes the Italian line’s red/green/white signature detail, antique gold and bamboo horsebit, and a pebble rubber sole. $425
Ferragamo - Acqua Essenziale
Alberto Morillas, the mastermind behind many designer fragrances including (but not limited to) Issey Miyake, Bvlgari, Calvin Klein, and Versace, was commissioned by Ferragamo to create their 2013 men’s fragrance, Acqua Essenziale. The one-of-a-kind cologne is aromatic, fresh, spicy, “green,” and musky — perfect for a cool weather snuggle.
Mont Blanc - Legend
Fine. Mont Blanc is French, but if you’ve smelled their latest, you understand why we had to include them. A truly sexy scent, Legend doesn't assault those around you with that overbearing masculine musk. Instead, it has the rened trappings of that "hot Daddy" smell: the freshness of clean, crisp topnotes and a subtle, spicy nish that pairs well with your natural male pheromones.
Fendi - Fan di Fendi
Found exclusively at Macy's, Fan di Fendi is the go-to if you want your lover pressing his face into your neck to dig a little deeper into this complex bouquet of sophisticated, racy, and intrepid. The legendary Karl Lagerfeld is the architect behind Fan di Fendi and without question, he's still got it.
PRADA LINEA ROSSA - $240
SALVATORE FERRAGAMO - $290
TRUSSARDI - $200
From cars to clothing, the Italians are known for their cutting-edge designs. To complement your stylish

Talk about a go-getter! The word ‘no’ doesn’t rest easy on your ears, which has gotten you through (and into) some sticky situations, like His Lordship Robert Crawley and Alfred Nugent.
Your eternal optimism in dark times is incredibly brave, so when you’re in a mood, we know something must be up. You’re the Countess Cora Crawley and Daisy Mason.
You don’t need to be front-and-center for us to see how marvelously audacious you are. Your valor speaks for itself. Lady Edith Crawley and William Mason.
You’re not exactly a bastion of perfection, but you’re certainly not the maladroit screw-up that your haters make you out to be. Lady Mary Crawley and Ethel Parks.
With the combined power of good humor and a killer work ethic, you rally the troops with great ease. You’re Matthew Crawley and Mrs. Patmore in a gay little package.
Intense and strong-willed, you’ll see that you get what you’re after come hell or high water. Tom Branson and Thomas Barrow.
We can always count on you for a backhanded compliment that’s as brutal as it is clever. You’re Violet the Dowager Countess of Grantham and Sarah O’Brien.
Your life is divided into two distinct parts — the you everyone gets to see and the you most people probably can’t handle. Just like Lady Rose MacClare and John Bates!
Capricorn [Dec. 22 – Jan. 19]
You’re not the loudest, proudest person in the room, which is exactly why people listen when you speak. You’re Anna Smith and Lady Sybil Crawley.

Your impact is subtle, but in your wake, you leave behind some real game-changers for those around you. You’re Lavinia Swire meets Mrs. Hughes.
While you can be pretty terse and rigid when questioned, we know it’s because you want things done right. See: Isobel Crawley and Charles Carson.
You’re truly a welcome addition to the party — once you check that ego, hotshot. You’re a mix of Martha Levinson and James “Jimmy” Kent.

Holler Poodles!!
Holler poodles! Spring is almost here and the birds are singing and well hell, I think the bluebird of happiness just took a crap on my Frada sunglasses. Yes with an F. Don’t judge me bitches! Now don’t get me wrong, I love Spring. Fresh air, warmer temps, spring cleaning and oh yeah--springtime allergies! I don’t know about you but I suffer from really bad allergies and have a pussy I’m also allergic to. Ugghhh!. Add pollen to the mix and I can be guaranteed at least one sinus infection for the season. If green is your color, I’ll be making it soon. Yuck!
With Spring, there are so many things I look forward to... Long walks along the trails, sunshine caressing my alabaster skin and me in the latest fashions from Cross Dress for Less (I can dream bitches). Clearly, not everyone can wear clothes like I can. My body just absorbs color and pattern so I must be bold with my choices! I’m a canvas for fashion much like a circus tent. Funny, “Send in the Clowns” just came on Pandora.
For all you Fashionistas, there’s plenty of shows on TV to quench your fashion hungry appetite. Project Runway, the long running fashion hit remains my favorite. Although I really like The Rachel Zoe Project, It’s a Brad Brad World and What Not To Wear. Lower on my list would be Jessica Simpson’s The Fashion Show.
My philosophy about fashion is simple--if I like it and it’s comfortable, I wear it. If I feel good in it, then I know I’m gonna sell it on the runway! Hell, think of what people had to wear a hundred years ago. Downton Abbey while a wonderful glimpse into the past makes me clutch my lady balls with fear. I feel claustrophobic just looking at those clothes!
What makes me smile now are the trends coming back from my youth. Boat shoes! Really? Hell, lets bring back streaking!! Now that would be cool. Some people are just too stiff and may need a good streaker to brighten their
day. Who’s up for it? Let’s all bring it back together! I’ll do it! Hell, I’ll even audition men by email. Send your nude pics to me at [email protected]. I’ll let you know what I think. I’m serious!
Till next time, Holllllerrrrrrr!
Love and lashes,

I’m Charlie, 32. Growing up, I was always tortured by kids for acting gay. I was bullied and attacked, but Mama was always there for me. Being the “baby” of five, I was always attached to her. When no one came to my birthday parties, she was there with her homemade cakes. We had it bad growing up. Food, money, heat, we had nothing, but mom and I stuck in there with each other, weathering life’s storms. When I was 27, I was outed. My dad didn’t like it, but my mom was still there. I’ve been with my boyfriend for five years. When things got bad with work and such, she allowed him to live with us. Recently, she had severe nose bleeds and was rushed to ER. As I dressed my mama, brushed her hair, cleaned her up, I got scared. I thought of losing her one day. I'd be lost. I want a better life for both of us. I treasure my mom, her acceptance of me, of my boyfriend, of my life. Her other kids have abandoned her, but not me. As I watch her sitting alone, looking out the window, I see that I am blessed in this world — that’s my mama. Through abuse, struggles, poverty, she continues to move on … strong, determined. I know that I’ll never be as strong as her, but knowing I have her on my side is good enough for me.
