    Cleanliness drive to boost tourism

Reference news comes in my knowledge from Times of India-

Times of IndiaDt 28 October 2013

RANCHI: The state tourism department is all set to produce a green and cleanJharkhand to tourists from

across the globe. It has started an initiative under the name 'Security and cleanliness of tourist spots project',

which will help in attracting more visitors.

Under the project 21 tourist spots at various districts have been identified by tourism department and the

cleanliness work at three spots, in Deoghar, Baidyanath Temple, Trikut and Tapowan, have started.

Tourism director, Siddharth Tripathy, said, "Government of Indiaconducted a survey to know the reason why

despite being a country of diversity, India attracts only 0.6% tourist visits. Lack of cleanliness and security at

the tourist spots were to blame. After this, GoI started a campaign in 2011-12 under the name 'Clean India

Campaign' to make different tourist spots in the country dirt free."

He added, "We will also be cleaning 21 places in the state under the same campaign."

In the first phase, the cleanliness work will be taken up at nine tourist spots. The first phase includes those

tourist spots which attract more than five lakh tourists. "Cleanliness work at Shaheed Sthal, Jagganath

Temple, Dasham Fall, Jonha Fall, Hundru Fall in Ranchi, Kelaghag at Simdega and Chandil at Seraikela will

start within a week while the work at other places will start within 15 days. Some more spots can be added in

the future but we selected these places first because 85% tourists visit these places," said Tripathy.

The tourism department called a meeting at the place where the cleanliness work is scheduled to start. Chief

executive officer of the corporation involved, deputy commissioner, zila panchayat representatives, DC and

local people were invited to attend the meeting.

"We are choosing paryatak mitra (tourist friend) from among the local people. Most would bewomen from

the same village or nearby villages. We will allot them wages and will be give green border sari to women and

blue pants and shirts to men. Also orange jackets will be given to them on which Paryatak Mitra and tou rism

department would be written," Tripathy said.

Tripathy said if the locals are engaged to clean tourist spots then the visitors will feel more secure and also

nobody would create problems for them. "These paryatak mitras will not just work towards cleaning the

place but also help as a guide and security person."

The concept of the Palace on Wheels was originally designed to give a feel of its national and international guests

of the royal lifestyle of the erstwhile rulers of the princely states of the state.

Voted as the most luxurious train in Northern India, this train was voted the fourth luxurious train in the world in

    2010.

A journey in this train is no less than staying in five star hotels due to the amenities it provides.

    http://indrus.in/news/2013/10/29/russian_demand_for_package_holidays_to_india_on_the_rise_30443.html

Russian travel agencies predict more Russians will visit India on holiday this winter, according to tour operators,

    who spoke to Interfax.

The inflow of tourists visiting India on holiday is expected to increase this winter. Package deals to India are

becoming increasingly popular, Alexander Tugolukov, Managing Director of the Biblio Globus travel agency, told

    the news agency.

A package tour of IndiaThe Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra, Jaipur) and a resort stay at Goa is the most popular

    product among visitors from Russia.

According to Tugolukov, Transaero will operate two weekly flights from Moscow to Dabolim starting November 15.

Anna Podgornaya, General Director of the Pegas Touristik travel agency, told Interfax that tours to India were

booked more than three to four months in advance, with package deals that combine a tour of the Golden Triangle

with a beach holiday in Goa being the most popular.

According to Podgornaya, many travel agencies, especially in the Russian regions, are unable to sell this product

correctly, and not all of them are well aware of Indias or Goas tourism potential.

The visa regime is another problem hindering a sharp increase in tourism from Russia to India. Visas to India are

not as easily or quickly obtained as Russians would hope. Ideally, we would like to have visa on arrival or visa-free

travel, Podgornaya was cited as saying in the report.

The number of tourist visas issued by India in Russia rose 22 percent last year, and by another 55 percent during

the first nine months of this year, Indias Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said ahead of a recent visit to Russia.

The Indian media had reported that India would include Russia along with Kazakhstan and 38 other countries on a

list of nations whose citizens will be able to obtain visas on arrival at an Indian airport.

    Brand Bengal

State to hardsell Hills, Sunderbans in London mart News comes in knowledgeTimes of India- October 30 ,2013

    http://articles.timesofindia.indiatimes.com/2013-10-30/kolkata/43526234_1_travel-mart-tea-tourism-brand-bengal

The state government will try to hardsell Darjeeling, Sunderbans and Digha-Mandarmani to foreign tourists at the

London travel mart. Some new items which have won geographical indications, like Baluchari sari and Tulai Panjee

rice, will also feature in Bengal's stall.

The London travel mart will be held between November 4 and 8

The tourism department is trying to showcase Sunderbans to foreign tourists and for that, plans are on to develop

jetties of Sunderbans, so that travelling can be much safer and easier while getting off and boarding the boats.

Moreover, the government has plans to organize trips to the remoteislandsand introduce speed boat rides as

    well.

To improve connectivity with Mayapur in Nadia, where the Iskcon temple is located and another gigantic temple is

coming up, the state government is considering the prospect of introducing chopper rides from the city. As foreign

tourists often visit Mayapur, Iskcon is looking for a helipad close by.
