Providing the Global Business Experience Employers SeekSuffolk’s Global MBA alumni entered the program with one goal in mind: to become

successful business leaders in today’s global economy. Today they are working at Bank

of Tokyo-Mitsubishi UFJ, Coca-Cola in Toronto, Deutsche Bank, Fidelity Investments,

Scottish Development International, American Express, Biogen, and other leading

companies around the globe. Ask them why they chose Suffolk and they will tell you two

reasons: 1) for the exceptional first-hand global business experience opportunities; and

2) to concentrate in international finance or international marketing.

From day one, both in and out of the classroom, the Global MBA immerses students

in the business of international business.

Effective Career Planning Join full- and part-time students across all MBA

programs in this 1-credit introductory course.

experience and those with twenty.

• Complete an online self-assessment tool used by

top-level firms across the country

format business simulation as you determine the

success of a global company

• Write a Career Development Plan to identify

goals for your Suffolk Global MBA experience

The Global Travel Seminar All Global MBAs participate in a one-week overseas travel seminar, choosing one

destination from among five countries. Seminars include three pre-travel sessions on

campus in Boston which provide perspective on regional economic, cultural, political and

legal issues and their impact on global business. Students are then immersed in the host

country’s culture during their week abroad, touring multinational corporations and local

businesses, interacting with business leaders and participating in live case studies.

Seminars have included travel to Brazil, China, England, Germany, and India.

Given the demands of the workplace, part-time students decide the term

and year to complete their global travel seminar.

ConcentrationsAsk successful corporate executives to define “business basics”. They will tell you that in

today’s global economy, you need a fundamental knowledge of international business;

the ability to communicate and analyze issues across departmental and cultural differences;

and an in-depth functional expertise to define your value to an organization.

International Finance ConcentrationGlobal MBAs in the International Finance concentration look closely at global issues

impacting financial markets, instruments and institutions; including commercial banks,

securities brokerage firms, and investment banks. They explore differences in financial

reporting and disclosure practices among nations. They examine the use of stocks, bonds,

derivatives, options, futures and swaps in global securities portfolio management and

financial instrument valuation. They also analyze the financial feasibility and risks of

capital acquisition and allocation projects in multinational corporations. Students in this

concentration participate in the London Financial Markets one-week Global Travel Seminar

investigating the world’s largest volume financial market.

International Marketing ConcentrationGlobal MBAs in the International Marketing concentration study international product

development and brand management, including market analysis and demand forecasting,

global competition and positioning. They explore product management issues including

global sourcing, channel strategies, pricing, and trade regulations and risks. They delve

deeply into global customer relationship management and appreciate the complexity of

cross-cultural consumer behavior and its impact on marketing communications strategies

and programs.

Both concentrations have immediate career applications in terms of internship

preparation, job transitioning, and increasing immediate value to your employer.

The Internship for Full-Time StudentsGlobal MBA internships are more than an international work experience. They are real-life

learning labs where students put their newly-acquired global business knowledge to the test.

They are also valuable opportunities for students to make important corporate contacts.

Supervised by faculty advisors, students earn 6 credits as they work full-time outside their

home country for three months during the summer semester. With a 100% placement

rate, the Global MBA program office works with students to identify internship sponsors

and opportunities. While students are ultimately responsible for attaining their internship

through an application and interview process, Suffolk’s Career Services office, together

with the MBA Programs office, provide professional development opportunities including

workshops in resume writing, interview skills, professional imaging, networking, corporate

presentations, and career strategy skills. Students intern in a variety of industries and

employers have included start-ups, joint ventures, and global corporations.

The Global Project for Part-Time StudentsToward the end of the program, part-time students complete a Global Business Research

Project in their place of business. Closely intertwined with current or projected interests for

the student and/or the student’s company, these projects are the ultimate in career-relevant

education. They address real business issues and apply skills learned in the international

finance or international marketing concentration.

Alternatively, part-time students may complete a 3-month consulting project that includes

two weeks on-site at a global company outside the U.S. The Director of the Global MBA

identifies companies outside the U.S. for these intensive two-week on-site projects. Still

another alternative, available to students employed by a multinational company, is travel

abroad to one of their international offices for an internship or global research project.
