LSU Suction Unit Front Line

The Laerdal suction unit is a powerful effective tool. It can reach a vacuum of almost 10 psi and has a flow rate of about 30 liters per minute, exceeding International Standards.

The LSU device test will tell you in 10 seconds whether it is ready for use in the field. The test includes four important requirements.

Blockage in the Suction System

Vacuum build-up efficiency

Maximum achievable vacuum level

Air leakages in the Pump System

The Laerdal Suction Unit automatically charges when connected to an external power source and charges to 80% after just 3 hours so it is ready for use when needed.

What happens when the LSU doesn’t tell you it isn’t ready for use or it doesn’t automatically charge when connected to an external power source? I’ll tell you, the user replaceable rechargeable battery is dead. Yep, you heard me right…the user replaceable, rechargeable battery, stock number EMS182 is dead. So now what do you do, tag it? Nope…I’ll tell you what you can do.

Take a look at your suction unit, the battery powered yellow one with the Bemis canister in the middle. Look on the side with the big blue

strap where you keep your tubing and at the bottom of the suction unit you will see a blue rubber plug. Behind that blue rubber plug sits the LSU’s user replaceable rechargeable battery. Pull the blue rubber plug aside, push the battery in and to one side and the battery will pop out; you may have to tilt the LSU to get the battery to slide all the way out. Slide the replacement battery in, push it to one side to lock it in, close the blue rubber plug and plug the LSU in to charge. There, that saved you several weeks of down time and your LSU is still in service!
