Recently, Conifer Chamber President Melanie Swearingin and I met with the Jefferson County Economic Development Corporation (EDC). The

team, headed by former County Commissioner Kevin McCasky, is charged with bringing economic prosperity to Jefferson County. Simply put, bringing jobs to Jeffco. They work to attract Aerospace, Aviation, Bio Science, Energy and Outdoor Recreation companies. New jobs mean new people earning and spending money in our area. They even found business communities in Switzerland and Germany that are similar to Jefferson County and are working with those foreign entities to expand here! A big part of our role at the Evergreen Chamber is to make the community aware of not only the shops and restaurants we have to offer but the wide variety of professional services that exist across the mountain community. Many of our doctors, accountants, business coaches, lawyers, health and wellness professionals have additional offices in Denver. What does this mean for you? It means that not only do we have highly skilled professionals available here in Evergreen but they are also available at their offices down the hill. 80% of people that live in the Evergreen area do not work in the Evergreen area. Our business owners strive to be convenient no matter where YOU are located in order to provide the service you deserve. According to research one Word of Mouth recommendation is five times more effective than a paid ad alone. Please remember to refer and recommend local businesses. Word of mouth is the best referral one can have. It’s almost time to vote for your favorite photographs to be included in the 2016 Seasons of Our Mountains community calendar! The 24 semi-finalist photos will be on display for voting at Evergreen National Bank on Main Street in Evergreen from Aug. 3 through Aug. 14. And, for the first time ever, you’ll also be able to vote online—at Evergreen’s favorite local news website, JustAroundHere.com.

This contest is sponsored by Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage, JustAroundHere.com, Evergreen National Bank, and Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice. A community-wide vote determines the 13 photographs (and 12 honorable mentions) that are printed as a full-color wall calendar. All proceeds from calendar sales benefit Mount Evans.

Funds raised will help Mount Evans care for underinsured or uninsured patients as well as support numerous community services provided by the agency, including grief counseling, transportation for patients to medical appointments, respite care for family caregivers, and Camp Comfort, a bereavement camp for children. Representing Business with Government

The Evergreen Area Plan Update Webpage has been updated with the draft maps and presentation from the June 16th meeting. There will not be a meeting in July to give all parties a chance to examine these draft maps and send in comments. The next meeting will be on August 25th, at 6:15 PM in the Evergreen Fire Rescue Admin Building (same location as always). We will be presenting revised maps at this meeting.
