Success at the School Knockout TennisThe Tamworth South Public School tennis team played against Westdale Public School on Wednesday 20 March 2019.

Makenzie Noble, Mia Cloake, Joshua Roach and Riley Weber played brilliantly, with skills and great sportsmanship. They won all their games of singles, boys and girl's doubles and mixed doubles.

It was pleasing to hear the players giving support to their fellow competitors. It was a proud moment to realise that they will play the next round of this interschool competition.

Harmony Day

Today we celebrated Harmony Day. Harmony Day is celebrated annually on March 21st coinciding with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The continuing message of Harmony Day is 'Everyone Belongs'. It is about community participation, inclusiveness, celebrating diversity, respect and belonging. On this day students are encouraged to wear orange (traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations but also relates to the freedom of ideas and encouragement of mutual respect). By participating in Harmony Day activities, children learn and understand how all Australians, regardless of their background contribute equally to our vibrant nation.

Tamworth South Public School CricketKootingal Public School vs Tamworth Public School

Tuesday 19 March we travelled to Farrer to play a game of cricket. Kootingal won the toss and chose to bat first. Malaki bowled first with two maiden overs, then Ashley bowled next with one wicketThomas took three wickets with Jackson taking one as well as Darius. Malaki and Liam caught two batters out and Malaki stumped one.Top scorer was Darius with Ashley and Malaki also scoring runs. Thomas was voted Best Player of the day. We batted and bowled on a synthetic pitch.

Science and Engineering Challange

The Science and Engineering Challenge was an awesome excursion. The purple team had a great time together; we all worked on the activities well and as a team.

Our challenges were very difficult, especially the bridge. The purple team’s other activity was called Max Power. That was the most fun!

There were other teams doing activities such as String along, Mars buggy, Build It, Light Comms, Earthquake and Get A Grip. It was great to catch up with friends from other schools during our break as well.

The schools in attendance were Calrossy, Tamworth West, Oxley Vale and Tamworth Public School who had two teams.

Our Jump Off Day is on Friday 29 March. We ask that all students come to school in their school sports uniform. There will be a whole school assembly at 9:30am before we break off into stage groups to enjoy a morning of skipping. Please come and join us to see our students’ wonderful new skipping skills.

NAPLANLiteracy and Numeracy

NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy – important skills that each child needs to succeed in school and life. The NAPLAN tests are designed to help us make sure students are on track with their literacy and numeracy development. Students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 participate in NAPLAN tests for reading, writing, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

Between Tuesday 14th May - Friday 24th May 2019, our school will participate in NAPLAN Online. Students do not need to be computer experts to take the NAPLAN test online. Making sure students have computer skills is part of our school curriculum, and our teachers will ensure your child is familiar with the online format. To see the types of questions and interactive features of NAPLAN Online, visit the public demonstration site.

The clothing pool is now stocking short socks in assorted sizes in bottle green, grey and white. They cost $4.00 a pair.

P & C Mothers' Day StallThe P&C will be holding its annual Mothers' Day Stall on Thursday 9 May and Friday 10 May 2019. All gifts will be $5.00 each with a limit of 2 per child.

We are looking for volunteers to help on these days even if it only for an hour or 2, any help is appreciated. If you are able to help please contact Michelle Weber via the Facebook page. (more information to follow)
