Sector Power (Substation) Project Type Substation development Project Title Preparatory Survey on The Project for Reinforcement of Transmission Network in Nacala Corridor Location Namialo of Menconta District in Nampula Province Client The Republic of Mozambique, Japan International Cooperation Agency Project Period April 2014 – March 2015 Location map Project Description Power demand in Mozambique has been rapidly increasing due to the recent economic growth. However, the power supply capacity is not sufficient to meet the rising demand. In the Northern Mozambique, the electrification ratio stands still at approximately 10% as of 2012 though potential power demand is high especially along Nacala corridor. Further, the shortage of substations as well as deterioration of the existing substations due to aging are bottlenecks to sufficient and stable power supply in this region. Under these circumstances, the government of Mozambique requested the government of Japan to implement the Project to reinforce Transmission Network in Nacala Corridor, under Japan's grant aid scheme. OC Global carried out the preparatory survey for the said Project and identified the following three (3) project components: A new Namialo Substation Designed the substation in consideration of the future power demand, maintainability and the related future project for the reinforcement of transmission network Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition (SCADA) System Designed the SCADA system in consideration of the easy operation, maintainability and compatibility with the existing SCADA system for entire northern grid which will be established in future Distribution Transformers in non-electrified communities along Nacala corridor Selected the non-electrified communities to provide the distribution transformers along Nacala corridor in consideration of the necessity, urgency and effectiveness of the transformer based on filed surveys Service Provided Study on organization structure both in the construction and O&M phases Site survey Power flow analysis Basic design Environmental and social considerations study Operation and maintenance plan Project cost estimate Evaluation of the effectiveness of the Project Preparatory survey report Major Specification of the Component to be Provided Namialo 110 kV / 33 kV substation (about 200 m×130 m) SCADA system to new Namialo substation, Nampula central existing substation and Namupla 220 existing substation Distribution Transformers in non-electrified communities along Nacala corridor
