CG offers all the elements of a complete turnkey Substation Automation System including design, assembly, test, installation and commissioning of Protection and Control panels, Substation Control and Information Systems, communications networks and interfaces with remote SCADA or Distribution Management Systems.

The CG Substation Automation System has core technology with modular scalable architecture and ability to integrate with existing and new substation equipment to provide an integrated, flexible protection and control solution.

The system is based on the IEC-61850 standard and resilient high speed network connectivity. The solution provides seamless integration of existing IEDs having legacy protocols and IEC61850 compatible equipment.

System OverviewA typical system consists of time synchronized bay level devices connected to a substation LAN having an operator workstations and a gateway for remote communications. The CG solution is an integrated IEC-61850 solution which is fast becoming the HV and MV substation standard. The end user can specify IEC 61850 compatible relays and IEDs or those with legacy protocols.

Bay level FunctionalityAtthebaylevel(feeder,transformer,buscoupler…)relaysandIEDscanbeintegratedseriallyviatheSmartBay(BCU)ordirectlyontotheIEC61850LAN.TheBCUsupportsarangeofIEDprotocolsand interfaces allowing full utilization of existing and new assets.

InterlockinglogiccanincludehardwiredandserialIEC61850I/O.Ifpermitted,theBCUprovideslocalcontrolcapabilityviaanintegralcolor display and keypad.

The multi-function display can be configured to show relevant information such as Single Line Diagrams, Sequence of Events, phasor diagrams, instrumentation and diagnostics.

Unless specified by the end user CG can select the most appropri-ate protection relays and peripheral equipment. The scheme func-tionality and protection settings will be designed and configured according to end user requirements and verified during compre-hensiveFactoryAcceptanceTestingandsitecommissioning.If permitted the bay level functionality can operate independently of the substation automation system and will remain operational in the event of a system failure.

Station Level FunctionalityCG Vision is a powerful visualization and control software platform. Single or multiple OperatorWorkstations provide station levelmonitoring with manual and automated interlock and control to prevent invalid operations.

Workstations can be local or remote in redundant configuration withaccess(ifpermitted)viaanInternetbrowser.CGVisionsup-ports multi-level Single Line Diagrams with zoom to bay level in-formation.

Functionalityincludesvisualizationofsequenceofevents,alarmshandling and diagnostics; IED configuration; fault record data han-dling; data archiving; printing; systems engineering, maintenance and analysis.

Substation LANThe CG solution supports both radial and ring architectures with optional LAN redundancy for greater availability. LAN design is implemented to meet the end-user requirements. Single or multi-mode fiber optics is used as the primary IEC 61850 LAN medium.

Substation ToolsCG provides a comprehensive IED independent IEC 61850 toolset designed to simplify system configuration. It incorporates a graphi-cal Single Line Diagram configuration toolset for creating and con-figuring IED settings and as a record of the system. Configurations can be saved and recalled for modification or re-sue in subsequent substation designs.

Substation CommunicationsThe CG LAN architecture and secure Gateway supports standard remoteprotocolsincludingDNP3,IEC60870-5-101and104.TheGateway enables single or redundant access of SCADA, Distribu-tion Management Systems or Energy Management Systems.
