Substation Automation

The electric power substations are divided into levels, as follows:

Level 0Primary equipment for protection or transformation of power is responsible for treatingthe high voltage received from the transmitters and, depending on the type of substation, can step it up or step it down to predetermined levels.

• Equipment: Transformers, Capacitor Banks, Reactor Banks, Voltage Transformers,Current Transformers, Reclosers, etc.

Level 1 Equipment responsible for protection and automation of level 0 equipment, all level 0 devices need equipment for their protection and automation, this method aims at improving the efficiency of substations, preventing unnecessary disconnections or evenblackout.

• Equipment: Protective Relays, Data Acquisition Units, Remote Terminal Units, etc.

Level 2Known as supervisory, has the main function of concentrating the information receivedfrom level 1 and making it available through local interface to the substation’s operatorsand distributing it to level 3.

• Equipment: Gateways, Concentrating PCs, local Workstation Computers and HMIPCs.• Softwares: Sage, Elipse, Subnet, etc.

Level 3It is the supervisory system installed in the operation center of the generators, transmitters and distributors. It is responsible for the monitoring and operation of all the company’s substations, thus allowing decision-making by the system operators.

eSIPProcess Integrated System

The eSIP system was developed to integrate several process subsystems, whether supervision, analysis, maintenance, security software or any other that has direct application in the process, collecting data provided by all equipment making up the system, like protective relays, digital, remote recorders, video cameras and switching equipment.

This integration will allow a unified management of thepower generation and transmission process, resultingin a synergy between the various subsystems, with consequent result in the improvement of power qualityindices provided, in addition to significant reduction in

the costs of operation and maintenance of the power plant.

Main Features• Automatic collection of oscillo-graphic files in an occurrence of lack and sending to a centralized database in the CAP (Protection Analysis Center) platform in stan-dardized fashion (COMTRADE or another to be defined);

• Management of parameterizations of all the relays and DFRs integrated to the system, automatically, allo-wing periodical audit functionalities;

• Remote and automatic loading of protection adjustment files, preventing moving teams to far away places and loading new adjustments in a secure and stan-dardized fashion.

SAGE (Power Management Open System)

Supervision and Control – SCADA System

The SAGE system is based on a distributed and redundant architecture. Several computers can be connected through a local network, guaranteeing expansibility of the computer features. The network’sphysical configuration is transparent, allowing the use of several network technologies, like Ethernet, FDDI/ CDDI, ATM, etc.

The Communication Subsystem implements thefunctions of acquisition, treatment and distribution ofdata from the power system (SCADA), in addition toproviding support to multiple acquisition and distributionprotocols. The Graphical Interface Subsystem controlsthe operator’s interaction with the computer system,supporting all the state-of-the art full graphics features,

like zoom, panning, decongestion, menus, multiplewindows, etc.

Main Features• Arithmetic and Boolean formulas, with treatment ofalarms;• SAGE Shell, for activation of various programs from the graphical interface;• Support for multiple windows with single-line, tabular diagrams, trend graphs, lists of alarms and events.

ELIPSESupervision and Control - SCADA System

Elipse is a powerful platform for supervision and control of processes fully devoted to the operation in distributed application network.

This SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) System offers an advanced model of objects, a graphi-cal interface, in addition to an architecture that allows fast development of applications and maximum con-nectivity with devices and other applications.

Its conception incorporates the latest technologies insoftware development, maximizing performance, pro-ductivity and the quality of its applications and of

JADE - Merging UnitInstallation in the Substation - Serigy | Energisa

The substation digitalization process is entering a newphase in which the intensive use of Process Bus will bewidely adopted.

The Merging Unit JADE was especially developed tomeet this new demand, allowing the collection of datain real time from the resulting information, voltage andstate, substituting the various field copper cables by asingle optic cable.

JADE is fully compliant with the IEC -61850 -9.2-SMVprotocol in its Light Edition, being compatible with thevarious protective relays that meet the same standard,operating as a data server for the process buses.
