This statewide Substance Abuse Overview provides statistics on substance abuse treatment in
New Jersey for calendar year 2017. In 2017, there were 82,644 treatment admissions and
79,326 discharges reported to the New Jersey Department of Health, Division of Mental Health
and Addiction Services by substance abuse treatment providers. These data were submitted
through the web-based New Jersey Substance Abuse Monitoring System (NJSAMS). This
report is based on the information provided in the May 2018 NJSAMS download data.
