Shop Drawing Review

Fabricators & Contractors Follow the file submittal requirements for shop drawings. The acceptance of shop drawings is shown as Shop Drawing Status in the Fabrication Library and will be dependent on both BOS and project management acceptance of the shop drawings. Available Statuses Revise & Resubmit – Upload a revision of the shop drawing addressing all comments Accepted – No revisions needed. Proceed with fabrication. Accepted with corrections as noted – No revisions needed. Comments must be addressed during fabrication. Proceed with fabrication. Upload revised versions of shop drawings if any minor changes are made during fabrication or if any revisions were required by the fabricator’s quality control review.

Project Leaders Follow the submittal requirements for shop drawings. Bureau of Structures does not review all shop drawings. However, a sample of shop drawings are reviewed based on fabricator, field conditions or structure complexity. BOS review comments are included in the shop drawing, marked by a stamp showing the review date and name of reviewer.

The Shop Drawing Status will be dependent on both BOS and project management acceptance of the shop drawings. The WisDOT Fabrication Library allows for project management reviewers to choose the review status of the shop drawing.

Reviewers, please include comments within the shop drawing pdf file. There are 3 ways of doing this:

A. (1) Download the file to your computer

(2) Open and Edit the file in a pdf editor (e.g. Adobe Reader, Bluebeam) (3) Save the file (do not change the filename) (4) Re-upload the file to the Fabrication Library; with the same filename, to replace the original (5) Change the review status in the file properties. To change the review status, follow the steps listed in Appendix D.

B. Open the file directly from SharePoint with Adobe Reader. See Appendix B.

C. Open the file directly from SharePoint with Bluebeam Revu. See Appendix C.

Field Welding Forms

Contractor Submit an updated form DT2337 by January 31st each year. Email the form and all attachments to [email protected]. Form DT2320 must be completed by the contractor’s designated inspector for each day of welding.

Submit form DT2320 to the Project Construction Engineer/Construction Engineer/Resident Engineer representing WisDOT in the field. This form is considered an inspection report; it must be filled out on the day of welding, during the welding process and must contain factual observations of visual inspection of each weld. Preheat temperatures, voltage and amperage are to be recorded to verify compliance with the approved welding procedure specifications. The inspector must sign and date the form certifying that all statements are accurate. Project Leader Review and sign form DT2320. Submit form DT2320 to the WisDOT Field Welding Library.

The engineer should check the form for completeness and conformance to the field welding plan. Contact the Fabrication Unit (SFU) if you have any questions regarding review of the form. This form (DT2320) is considered and inspection report and must not be filled out retroactively.
