Keeping submarines safe, capable and available

The safe management and support of submarine fleets in an environment of shrinking budgets and resources requires a versatile approach, with application of a broad range and depth of knowledge for thorough discharge of Duty Holder responsibilities:

• ThereisaneedforcompetenttechnicalsupporttoPlatformDutyHolders,OperatingAuthorityDutyHolders,EngineeringSystemOwners,ApprovingAuthorities,EquipmentAuthoritiesandCapabilityManagers;

• ThissupportneedstobeprovidedbyNuclearandSubmarineSuitablyQualifiedandExperiencedPersonnel(NSQEPandSMSQEP);

• Thisrequirementcontinuesagainstabackgroundofgrowingresourceshortfallsandrigorousrequirementstosecurecontractsfortechnicalservices.

BMThasfirst-handexperienceinprovidingtechnicalservicestokeepsubmarinessafe,capableandavailable,throughthesubmarineIn-ServiceSupportprovidedtotheUKMinistryofDefence(MOD)forthelast20years,viaparticipationintheSubmarineSupportManagementGroup(SSMG)since1998,andthroughpredecessorsupportcontracts.BMThasbothNSQEPandSMSQEPwithoperationalexperienceinsubmarinesandrelevanttechnicalknowledgetosupportin-servicesubmarinesinthisspecialisedarea.

Ouravailabilitythroughavarietyofcontractroutes,includingtheSubmarineEngineeringSupportContract(SESC),FrameworkAgreementforTechnicalServices(FATS)anddirectcontractssecuredviaTier1PrimeContractors,meanthatitiseasytosecuresupportfromBMTandgainaccesstothewiderangeofSQEPresourceavailable.
