• Def. Subject pronouns take the place of the subject in a sentence

• He, She, you, I, it, we, they

Using Subject Pronouns

• Rafaela Gabriella Sarsaparilla hopped home with the kangaroo.– What’s the subject?

– What subject pronoun can replace it?• She

• She hopped home with the kangaroo.

Special Note

• You can only use a subject pronoun after you know who or what the subject is.

• If we first wrote:– She hopped home with the kangaroo.– We don’t know who she is. She could be:

• Isabella Julianna Valentina or…• Rafaela Gabriella Sarsaparilla or…• Jill

Practice• Replace the subject noun with subject

pronouns. Record the subject pronoun in your journal.

Finding subject pronouns

Mr. Delton dug in his pocket. He

pulled out a set of keys. They were

the skeleton kind, old and rusty. I wanted to run right then. I knew

this was bad news.
