We are one of only two secondary schools in the county to hold the prestigious Platinum Artsmark, which reinforces how our school puts creativity at the heart of everything it does.

Our excellent teachers have industry experience of the Performing Arts and links with professionals including producers, directors and professional theatre companies. Develop highly transferable skills in problem solving using iteration and user centric design, preparing you for any career working with clients.

Benefit from state of the art facilities including a 3D printer, laser cutter and 3D Fusion CAD. Teaching is fresh, making use of Google Classroom to support learning and discussion. Our annual trip to the New Designers exhibition in London is always an eye-opening and inspiring opportunity.

Exam components: 50%Principles of Product DesignThis paper is set out through four sets of questions that predominantly cover technical principles within Product Design. Coursework 50%The ‘Iterative Design Project’ requires learners to undertake a substantial design, make and evaluate project centred on the iterative processes of explore, create and evaluate.

Learners identify a design opportunity or problem from a context of their own choice, and create a portfolio of evidence in real time through the project to demonstrate their competence.

Science at Ryburn Sixth is going from strength to strength, with students achieving excellent grades. We’re very excited about launching this course enabling us to meet the needs of more students.

The course takes a vocational approach to an academic subject, which means it provides real world experience and ideas which are applicable to everyday life. You will study a number of units, with a mixture of exams and coursework, both practical and project based.

Techniques• Science Investigation Skills• Biology: cell structure and function• Chemistry: Structure and bonding,

production and uses of substances in relation to properties

• Physics: waves and communication

The internally assessed units are both practical and project based, and include specialist techniques such as colorimetry, titrations, calorimetry and chromatography. This will involve university visits to see specialised laboratory equipment.

As with Science A levels, the course offers the opportunity to develop skills in areas of using specialist equipment, handling hazardous materials and substances, risk assessment and high level scientific research. However, as a vocational qualification, it also allows students to develop skills such as using and producing their own risk assessments, standard operating procedures, good laboratory practice and good manufacturing practice which provide invaluable experience desired by future employers.
