Significance of hair trendsAs always, this season brings a new wave of trends for stylists and style lovers alike, and for Autumn/Winter hair, this is more important than ever.

We know that referencing high fashion earns you the highest kudos, so we’ve enlisted four times British Hairdresser of the Year and HOB Salons director, Akin Konizi, to keep you up to date.

A/W14 hair trends by Akin Konizi

For the coming season, hair is set to become sleeker again; not completely shiny, but slightly more groomed. For styling, it’s all about accents of texture as opposed to the all-over beachy festival looks so often seen in the warmer months.

Fringes will be making a huge comeback for all hair lengths. This time around, they are set to be cut blunter as opposed to wispy, while keeping a subtle movement to give a softer finish.For inspiration, look to key fashion houses like Alexander Wang, Moschino and Tom Ford.

A/W14 short hairShort hair is creeping shorter this season, with trends becoming braver and pointing to styles like the crop. New season fringes are also cut shorter and more structured, rather than trying to give the illusion of longer locks.

Alexander Wang and Commes des Garcons showcased these short looks perfectly on the catwalk, and the trend was also reflected in Balenciaga’s latest editorials which showed Gisele with cropped tresses.

For the ultimate reference to A/W 14 short hair styling, look to Moschino who perfected this trend using short geometric fringes teamed with careful texture.

A/W14 medium hairLess shoulder length than it was previously, medium-length hair is now moving upwards to just below the jaw and is best teamed with a side swept fringe to give a sexy, mysterious feel.

Take inspiration from Maison Martin Margiela and Dries Van Noten, both demonstrating that medium hair for the cooler months is very much about textured bobs that are full of movement.

For celebrities embracing the trend, look to Beyoncé who sported her summer bob slightly shorter at the back. Rather than being blow-dried under the chin, movement was embraced with waves worked throughout the style for a more textured finish.

A/W14 long hairThe distinction between medium and long has broadened, with medium hair getting shorter and long hair getting longer. There are many ways to wear long hair now, but for the winter months, be on trend by opting for a fuller fringe that is cut to just below the eyebrow.

For inspiration, look to Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton or Tom Ford. One of the most spotted trends on the catwalk was a very low pony tail teamed with a middle parting. Givenchy demonstrated beautifully, as did Victoria Beckham who is a great ambassador for this style herself.

A/W14 colourAutumn/winter reds have an earthier feel this season. Coppers should be multi tonal, reflecting shades of gold and amber fused within hair that is soft and ethereal in texture.

Deeper reds are intense and ripe inspired by dark berry and cherry hues. Look to model and IT Girl Karen Elson for hair colour inspiration - her red hair is always seasonally on trend.

Autumn Spun Reds

A/W14 colourBlondes are soft and smokey for autumn/winter, with an undone vibe. Introduce cool hues of hazelnut and buttermilk to complement natural hair creating a soft highlighted appearance.

The balayage trend is here to stay for the cooler season, think undone with an editorial edge. Model of the moment Cara Delevingne rocks this hair trend in Burberrys fall campaign perfectly.

Creamy Hazelnut Blondes

A/W14 colourWith the nights drawing closer, brunettes are making a move towards darker, moodier hues. Undertones of mulberry and violet reveal a subtle drama within bases of chocolate and cherry cola.

Coco Rocha is key hair colour inspiration for this dark and sumptuous brunette trend.
