General Instructions TheMercurymonitorhasacarryinghandleforeasyhandlinganda2-1/2”Ballvalveforadvancingorextendingaline(Figure2).Theinletandoutlethave2-1/2”threadsandthespikesaremadeofcarbideforbetterwearresistance.Thesafetystrapcanbeusedasacarryingstrapbyshorteningthestraptoitssmallestlengthandattachingthehookintothehole at the back of the handle.
The monitor is supplied with three carbide tipped spikes that imbed into the surface on which it is operating. These spikeswillnotgriponmetal,marbleorsimilarhardsurfaces.Donotoperateonthesesurfaceswithoutsecuringtheunitwiththesafetystrap(Figure6).
Operating Instructions
A.Setup TodeploytheMercurymonitor,removetheunitfromthemountingbracket,hosebedorstoragecompartment andadvancethemonitorandlinetoasafeoperatingposition.Fullydeploybothlegsbyrotatingbothlegs downandbackintothefullydeployedposition(Figure3).Setthemonitordownwithallthreespikesin contact with the ground.
B.SafetyStrap Anadjustablesafetystrapwithhookismountedonthefrontlegofthemonitor.Adjustthestrapbypullingthe strapthroughtheD-ringtotherequiredlength.Connectthehooktoagroundspike(ABpart#34430084)orrigid objectthatislocatedinfrontofthelegs.Pullthesafetystraptautorwrapthestraptautaroundafixedobject infrontofthelegsandsecurethehooktothestrap.DONOTOPERATETHEUNITWITHOUTTHESAFETY STRAPSECURED.Themonitorcangeneratereactionforcesover250lbs.Makesuretheobjectthesafetystrap is secured too can withstand these forces.
C.Valve Withthevalveclosed,chargethelineandthenslowlyopenthevalvetoavoidanydamage.Themonitorhas an indicator that directs the open and closed position of the handle. To open the valve, pull the handle back and to close the valve, push the handle forward (Figure 1).
D.RotationandElevation Themonitorcanbeusedmannedorunmannedatthespecifiedangles(Figure1).Therotationrangeis±20°. Theelevationrangeisfrom50°to30°unmannedandfrom30°to10°manned.Tolowertheoutletbelowthe 30°elevationrangewhilemanned,simplypushdownontheoutlettothedesiredelevation.Thecarryinghandle hasaspringloadedelevationarmthatreturnstheoutletto30°iftheoperatorreleaseshisgripontheoutletorthe monitor is unmanned.
E.FlowandPressure Whenusingwithafognozzledonotexceedthemaximumratedflowof500gpm(2000lpm).Whenusedwith smooth bore tips, do not exceed the following discharge pressures.

F. Mounting Bracket Anoptionalmountingbracketisavailableforstoringthemonitor.Themountingbracketwillaccommodate amonitorwithallaccessoriesavailablefromAkronBrassCompany.Figure4showsthebracketdimensionsfor mountingtoanyhorizontalorverticalsurface.Figure5showsageneralhorizontalandverticalstorage orientation.Themountingbracketshouldnotbesecuredsuchthatthemonitorwillhangupsidedown.DONOT FLOWTHEMONITORWHENSECUREDINTHEMOUNTINGBRACKET.ONLYFLOWTHEMONITORAS OUTLINEDINTHEPREVIOUSINSTRUCTIONS.

FOR USE WITH CAFS •ForoptimalCAFSBubbleStructureplacethenozzlepatterninstraightstreamandturntheflowcontrol ringtoFLUSH. NOTE: Changingtheflowcontrolringwithoutadjustingthepressurewillaffectyouractualflowrate i.e,ifyouchangetoahigherflowsetting,yourinletpressurewilldecreaseandyourflowwillbelessthan shownontheflowcontrolring.Ifyouchangetoalowerflowsetting,yourinletpressurewillincreaseand yourflowwillbemorethanshownontheflowcontrolring.Changingtheflowchangesthereaction force.Pumpcurves,hosesizeandlength,elevation,etc.,willaffectactualresults.
Maintenance Instructions • Afteruse,flushthemonitorwithcleanwatertocleangrit,dirtorfoamfromaroundexteriormovingparts.Doingso will allow the monitor to operate as designed. •Examinethepointsofthespikesonallthreelegs.Iftheflatofanyspikeexceeds1/16”(1,5mm)diameter,itmust bereplaced.Thespikesareassembledwithathreadlockingagent.Whenreplacingthespikesuseathread lockingagentsuchasLoctite#222,PermabondLM113orequivalent. •Theshutoffvalvemayneedtobeservicedwithanewballandseatifthevalvebecomesdifficulttooperate. ContactCustomerServiceforareplacementkitifrequired. •Ifthespringloadedelevationmechanismbecomesdifficulttooperatecleaninternalcomponentswith rubbingalcohol.DoNOTuseanytypeoflubrication.Thiswillhaveanadverseeffectontheoperationof the elevation mechanism.
