PepsiCo in India

PepsiCo gained entry to India in 1988 by creating a joint venture with the Punjab government-owned Punjab Agro Industrial Corporation (PAIC) and Voltas India Limited. This joint venture marketed and sold Lehar Pepsi until 1991, when the use of foreign brands was allowed; PepsiCo bought out its partners and ended the joint venture in 1994.

The equity of Pepsi Foods Limited was divided among the partners with PAIC holding 36.11 percent, Voltas 24 and PepsiCo 36.89 percent.

Some important commitments made by PepsiCo included:

The project will create employment for 50000 people nationally, including 25000 jobs in Punjab alone;

74 percent of the total investment will be in food and agro- processing. Manufacturing of soft drinks will be limited to only 25 percent;

50 percent of the total value of production will be exported;

PepsiCo Brands:

PepsiCo owns 5 different billion-dollar brands. These are Pepsi, Tropicana, Frito-Lay, Quaker, and Gatorade. The company owns many other brands as well.

Pepsi: Caffeine-Free Pepsi, Diet Pepsi/Pepsi Light, Caffeine-Free Diet Pepsi, Caffeine-Free Pepsi Light, Wild Cherry Pepsi, Pepsi Lime, Pepsi Max, Pepsi Twist and Pepsi ONE.

Other U.S. carbonated soft drinks, including Mountain Dew, Crush, Mug Root Beer, Sierra Mist, Tropicana Twister Soda and Frawg

7 Up (Globally, outside the USA)

In 2007, Nooyi spent $1.3 billion on healthier-alternative brands like Naked Juice, a California maker of soy drinks and organic juice

In 2010 PepsiCo launched Sting Energy Drink (carbonated) in some Asian countries including Pakistan, Philippines & Malaysia

Objective of the Study

The main aim of research is to find out the truth which is hidden and which has not been discovered yet; though yet each research study has its own specific purpose. The objective of the study is as follows:

To study which brand of soft drink do consumers prefer?

To study the reason for their preference to Mt. dew or 7Up as compared to sprite and their satisfaction level.

To study how many percentage of user use Mt. Dew or 7Up as compared Sprite in Agra region.

To know how often they use the green bottles.

To know this research, the consumer perception about the Mt. Dew, 7Up and sprite. contd…

Objective contd..

To know which brand is sold by the retailers.

To know which brand is demanded more by consumers and contributes more to the retailers sale.

To know how the consumers as well as the retailers rate the above brands.

To know whether the retailers were getting the schemes from the Company.

To know how much they are satisfied with the services from PepsiCo.

To know whether they substitute Mt. Dew or 7Up with Sprite.

Research Methodology

Preplanning is sin qua non for any kind of work preliminary preparation leads to reach closer to success achievement of the target. Initially the topic of work upon was decided and basing on which certain initiative to minimize the gap between planning and achievement was taken, finally a question was formed in such a fashion focusing certain most important point:-• Large no. of customer.• Availability of various companies’ soft drink.• Finally, assessing why drinking Mt. Dew, 7Uo or sprite.

Findings

In this research study I found that, approximate 50% of the outlets are satisfied with the services of PepsiCo in Agra region.

48% of the retail outlets said that Pepsi’s product value is excellent and 42% said it’s good.

33% retailer said that reason for the sale of Mt. Dew and 7Up is their quality 47% said reason for sale is demand of product.

90% of the outlets are receiving the schemes from PepsiCo.

70% retailers said that Mt. Dew is demanded more by customers.

66% retailers said that Mt. Dew is much better.

Mt. Dew and 7Up contributes nearly 80% to the sale of green bottles.

Recommendation

To establish the more retail outlets in rural & semi urban areas for better supply and service.

In research study, consumer wanted for varying taste in Mt. dew as in other Asian countries.

In Agra region, PepsiCo needs to strengthen their distribution channel.

To establish effective system to solve the customer complain or problem for improve the better services.

Improve marketing strategy & promotion technique means organized social event by PepsiCo and advertise the advantage Mt. Dew and 7Up. Although PepsiCo is working on several social events.
