State Endodontic Associations The concept of state affiliate associa- tions had its genesis in the need to find ways of increasing "grass roots" com- munication and participation in Asso- ciation affairs. Theoretically, the AAE- recognized affiliates will respond to local problems--legal, legislative, in- surance-related, or political--with the support of the national organization. Additionally, they will disseminate infor- mation at the local level on actions being taken by the AAE and develop- ments in other states that may be of importance to endodontics. In this way, these associations are distinct from study clubs, which are fundamentally apolitical, organized for the purpose of scientific study and social interaction.
Since the General Assembly's ratif- ication of an amendment to the Asso- ciation Bylaws (San Diego, April, 1985) several state affiliates have been or- ganized and have submitted drafts of their Constitutions and Bylaws to the AAE for approval.
Chapter -'X- of the revised Bylaws, printed in the membership Roster, delineates the requirements that must be met by such groups prior to their recognition by the Association. Any members currently in the process of forming a state affiliate association
should refer to these requirements. Groups who have questions on the for- mation of affiliates or who wish to ob- tain a sample Constitution and Bylaws, should write or call the Central Office of the Association. We are eager to learn of new affiliates and of the prog- ress made by established affiliates. This information will be shared with members in the News whenever pos- sible. The State affiliate associations that have submitted Constitutions and Bylaws to the AAE for approval include the following:
Florida State Asociation of Endodontists
Louisiana State Association of Endodontists
Massachusetts State Association of Endodontists
Minnesota State Association of Endodontists
Nebraska State Association of Endodontists
Oklahoma Association of Endodontists
United States Army Association of Endodontists
United States Navy Association of Endodontists
Washington State Association of Endodontists
West Virginia Association of Endodontists
Wisconsin Association of Endodontists

A provi- sional slate of officers was established as follows: Dr. Lawrence Le Vine, pres- ident; Dr. Leif Bakland, president-elect; Dr. Robert McWilliams, treasurer; Dr. Robert Bravin, secretary.
At its opening meeting for the 1985- 1986 year, the Houston Academy of Endodontists elected Dr. Jeffrey Hoover, president; Dr. Richard Mad- den, secretary-treasurer; and Dr. Terry M. Drs. Ogden and Hassid presented their research projects, "Restoration of Endodontic- ally Treated Teeth: An Arternative to Posts," and "Evaluation of the Apical Seal Produced by Calcium Hydroxide Sealers," respectively.
