1. Put rice on the drum.

2. Bang the drum, away from the rice.

3. What happens?

4. Now bang harder. What happens?

Tuning fork

1. Hold the tuning fork as shown.

2. Bang the side of one of the prongs against the rubber bung.

3. Hold the tuning fork so that one of the prongs just touches the surface of the water, in the middle of the bowl.

2. Ask your partner to put their mouth a few centimetres away from the balloon, and speak. What do you feel?

1. Put the bottle in the water, as shown. Put one ear over the top of the bottle.

2. Ask your partner to tap two blocks together under the water. What can you hear?

3. Now lift the bottle up so it is not under the water, but keep your ear over the top of the bottle. Tap the stones together again. How is the sound different?
