The students of History Department took part in different kinds of activities other than class work.

Nathia Gali, Cheeka Gali on 22-27 July 2010.

One day tour was arranged by the Department of History for M.A History students and visted Kila

Katas, Kila Rutas, and Mangla Dam on 28.2.2010.

One day tour was arranged by the Department of History for M.A Pakistan Studies students and

visted Nankana Sahib and Hiran Minar, Sheikhupura.

One day tour was arranged by the Department of History for M.Phil students and visted Wahgha

Sports exhibition was arranged by the Department of History, University of the Punjab, on 25-26

March 2010.

Department of Philosophy:

A Walk was organized by the Department of Philosophy to celebrate World Philosophy Day on

September 29, 2010. Prof. Dr. Sajid Ali, Dr. Shabbir Ahsen: Assistant Professor Department of Social

Sciences, LUMS, Mr. Shahid Gul, and Mr. Saad Malook walked with the students of the department

who were holding play cards and banners. One play card was showing, Socrates‟ adage, „The

unexamined life is not worth living‟. The walk was held from the Department of Philosophy to

University Law College and then back to the Department.

Amateur Theatre Festival 2010 on 20th May, 2010 at Alhamra Art Centre on the Mall and received a

lot of appreciation.

The students of Music Department arranged a live musical performance for the event “Tribute to Sir

Shahnawaz Zaidi‟‟ held at Alhamra Arts Council on 7th May, 2010.

Mr. Toheed Ahmad secured 1st position (Vocal) at Agriculture University Islamabad, 10th April, 2010.

The PUCAD student participated in Chand Bagh Music Festival in different categories. Mr. Ahmad

Raza Yousaf Secured 3rd position (instrumental). Mr. Toheed Ahmad also Secured 1st position

(Vocal) and also won the team trophy on 13th March, 2010.

Our College participated in the 3rd All Pakistan Mediafest ‟10 GIKI Media Club, Ghulam Ishaq Khan

Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology, Topi. Mr. Sikanader Hayat Khan, Mr. Husnain

Mehmood, Mr. Arslan Pirzada, Mr. Shahbukht Khan won the photography competition in 27-28

February, 2010.

The College participated in the „Fast University‟, Islamabad‟s Competition named “Tamasha”.

Mr. Miraj Muhammad won the first position in Conceptional Art (Painting) in 12-16 February, 2010.

Our students Mr. Mohsin Khawar student of B.Arch has been selected in the Portrait Category by the

Sarhad Tourism Department and was displayed his work in Lok Virsa Museum, Islamabad on 29th

Jan, 30th Jan & 1st Feb and awarded Rs. 5,000/-.

College of Art & Design designed & performed background music of Drama „‟ Awam Gher‟‟ at Rafi

peer youth performing art festival 15th January, 2010.

Saira Tahir achieved best singing Award at Govt College for Women JHELUM 14th January, 2010.

Mr. Toheed Ans, MA Music (1st Year) has won 1st Prize in All Punjab Competition of Music (Masood

Kadar Posh Award)

College of Art & Design designed & performed background music of mime „‟Nirtaki‟‟ in Governor

House Lahore.

The PUCAD students participated in various categories at LUMS Olympiad 09. The students bagged

second position in Fashion Design 5th place in Photography and clinched top 16 positions out of 70 in

Short Movie competitions and also qualified for semi-finals in Singing and Gaming contests.

In Media Festival 2009 held at Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute (GIKI). The students clinched first

positions in Photography and Short Movie categories.

Mr. Omar Daraz Muhammad Yousaf has won an International Award “IBDA‟A Awards 2009” held in Dubai.

The PUCAD students have won first and second position in a talent competition and painting exhibition

organized by „The Ummeed Foundation Trust' at the Alhamra Art Gallery in December 2009.

Muhammad Tahir Iqbal Secured 3rd position (Vocal) in Chand Bagh Music Festival, 2009.

College of Art & Design represented Punjab University in Youth Performing Art Festival 2009,

organized by Rafi Peer Theatre.

Saira Tahir represented Punjab University in South Asian University Performing Art Festival

(SAUFEST) In Nepal.

Department of Political Science:

Annual sports week arranged in March every year.

Students participated in interdepartmental competitions: Debates, Naat competition, Mushaira,

arranged by faculty of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

Annual dinner/farewell party is a traditional event of Political Science Department.

Department of Social Work:

A team of students participated in University debates and speeches competitions at Tariq Aziz

Show-PTV.

In this year following events/activities of students were organized:

4 Toursm, 2 Annual Dinners, 2 Welcome Parties and 2 Fair Well

Institute of Communication Studies:

Institute of Communication organized its Sports Gala 2010 in the vicinity of the Institute including

various sports activities like Cricket, Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Tug of War, Sack Race, Hurdle

Race and Three Leg Race both for boys and girls.

MS Morning session 2008-2010 organized a welcome party in the honor of their junior MS Morning

session 2009-11.

Institute of Social & Cultural Studies

Sports gala and cultural day was celebrated in April 2010.

One day excursion tours for MSc Sociology (both regular and replica) and BS (Hons) students were

arranged during the month of April 2010.

Welcome parties were arranged for MSc Sociology Sem-I, BS (Hons) Sem-I, MPS Sem-I and MSc

Criminology & Security Studies Sem-I classes during the month of October 2010.

Department of Gender Studies:

Women's Day Gala: The department, on 8th March, 2010 organized a Women Day Gala to highlight

the creativity and talent of the women. The academia along with the public and private sector joined

hands in making this event a success. The organizations exhibiting stalls include Directorate of Social

Welfare & Bait ul Mal, Sanat Zaar (Multan, Sahiwal & Lahore), Fountain House, Small & Medium

Enterprise Development Authority (SMEDA), Women Prison (Multan & Rawalpindi), Child Protection

& Welfare Bureau, Pakistan Institute of Mental Health (PIM), Gender Reform Action Plan (GRAP) and

many others.

National Conference: The department held a national conference on “Equal Rights Equal

Opportunities: Progress for All” on 29th March, 2010. Eminent scholars, human rights activists, faculty

members from the departments of Gender Studies across Pakistan read papers and shared their

views with the faculty and the students of the Punjab University. Among the speakers include Prof.

Dr. Nasira Jadoon, Prof Dr. Riffat Haq, Ms. Bushra Khaliq, Mr. Omer Aftab, Mr. Sulman Abid and Ms.

Asma Manzoor.

Poster Competition: For the students to show their talent and creativity, poster competition was

organized based on the theme of “Women Empowerment”. Cash prizes and certificates were given to

the winning students.

Slogan Writing Competition: The department in collaboration with the White Ribbon Campaign

Pakistan organized the slogan writing competition to mark the 16 Days of Activism on Violence

against Women. Prizes were given to the top three slogans in a very graceful ceremony.

Students Magazine: For the first time, the Department started annual students‟ magazine

“Intellectual Youth”. The magazine is a result of countless efforts by the faculty and students. The

students expressed great zeal and participated by giving their creative writing to the magazine.

Inauguration of the Computer Lab: The computer lab of the department comprises of 25 latest P5

computers was inaugurated by the worthy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mujahid Kamran on 6th

December, 2010.

Departmental Sports was arranged by the department on 28th March 2010. The event was very

much enjoyed and participated by the students.

Well Come & Farewell parties was arranged by the department on 7th January, 2010.

FACULTY OF COMMERCE

Hailey College of Banking & Finance:

College Annual Sports - 2009

A large number of students participated in College Annual Sports. Following activities were

organized for students (male/female) in the following disciplines:-

Hockey (Male)

Second Annual Sports Prize Distribution Function: A large number of students participated in the

College Annual Sports. The Principal of the College Prof. Dr. Khawaja Amjad Saeed distributed the

medals, cups, trophies and certificates among the position holders.

Swimming: Ten days swimming training and coaching camp was organized in June 2010 at New

Campus Swimming Pool for the training of the swimmers and to make them awarded about the latest

techniques of all the four styles. Merit Certificates were awarded to the top swimming trainees.

The Swimming Team of our College participated in the Punjab, University Inter-Collegiate Annual

Championship and won 3rd position and Merit Certificates/Cash awards. During Inter University

Championship our Swimmer Muhammad Amir won two Bronze medals in the HEC Swimming

Championship and was selected in HEC team to participate in the National Championship for the

year 2010.

Boxing: The boxing team of our College participated in the Punjab University Championship. Mr.

Muhammad Atif won 1st Position in 65 Kg weight category and Muhammad Haroon 3rd position. Mr.

S.M Atif was also selected as member of the Punjab University Swimming Team to participate in the

All Pakistan Inter University Boxing Championship to be organized by HEC.

Athletics: Ms. Sehrish Asghar won Three Gold Medals she was awarded a Cash Prize of Rs.60

thousand as whol and two silver Medals in the Punjab Chief Minister Sports Championship in female

athletics and got Rs.60 thousand in Cash. Ms. Sehrish Asghar also Five Gold Medals in the Pak. Inter

University Athletics Championship 2010 organized by HEC. Sehrish won Two Silver Medals in the

31st National Games held at Peshawar. The Principal of the HCBF Prof. Dr. Khawaja Amjad Saeed

awarded Cash Award to Ms. Sehrish and a special function was held to pay her tribute to this

National Athletics.

Badminton: Badminton Team (Boys) of HCBF participated in the Punjab University Inter Collegiate

Champion 2010, and defeated its opponents in the first and 2nd round. Mr. Hannan Raza a Junior

National player has been selected on the Punjab University Badminton Team. He will represent the

Punjab University in All Pakistan Inter University Badminton Championship to be organized by the

HEC.

P.U. Athletics: Ten members Athletic Squad of this College participated in the Punjab University

Athletics Championship in 2009-2010 and performed well. The Female athlete Asma Usman and

Sehrish Ashgar of this College won two Gold Medals and one Silver Medal in sprint events. She was

selected in Pakistan Universities Combined Athletics Team and participated in Inter University

Championship organized by HEC. She was selected for Punjab University team to participate in All

Pakistan Inter-Universities Championship organized by HEC and she also participated in the National

Athletic Championship and won distinction.

Table Tennis: Table Tennis team of our College participated in Punjab, University Annual Table

Tennis Championship and won 4th position among the large number of participating teams. Our

College table tennis player Ms. Iram Saeed was selected in the Punjab University team and also

participated in the Inter-University Championship and later on she was selected for Punjab Team to

participate in the National Championship.

Tennis: Ms. Sadia Latif won 3rd position Trophy in Punjab University (Singles) Championship and

was selected in the Punjab University Women Tennis Team. This team won 1st position in the

Pakistan Inter-University Championship.

Cricket: HCBF Cricket team participated in the Punjab University Cricket Champion ship and

defeated College of Earth Environment (CEEC) Punjab University Law College and in the 3rd match

defeated HCC and qualified for Semi Final. Whereas, our well known female cricket player Asma

Usman being the member of the Punjab University team, participated in Inter-University

Championship 2009-2010 held at Islamia University Bahawalpur and was declared the Women of the

match. The Punjab University was the winner of the Championship.

Basket Ball: Miss. Sadia Latif, student of this College was selected for Punjab University combined

team and as team member she participated in Pakistan Inter-University Championship organized by

HEC at Punjab University, Lahore. The Punjab University Team won the Championship Prof. Dr.

Khawaja Amjad Saeed Principal of Hailey College of Banking & Finance was the Chief Guest of this

occasion and he distributed the prizes souvenirs and trophies among the winners.

Foot Ball: Our College football team participated in the Punjab University Football Championship,

and performed well reaching in the quarter final. In the Women Championship, Ms. Asma Usman

female player was selected as a member of National Foot Ball Team that participated Championship

which was held under the PFF at Football Stadium in Lahore on December, 201l. She also

represented the in SAAF games held at Dhaka Bangla Desh. She got the honor of being captain of

the National women team.

Our College female football player Ms. Asma Usman also represented H.E.C. in the National

Competition held at Islamabad and played against Iran.

Our players and team will also participate in the events which are still to be organized by the

Punjab University and H.E.C.

Several prizes were won by our students in debating competition including GC University

Disclamation Contest, all Pakistan Events in Debating throughout Pakistan and in various other forums.

Hockey: Hafiz Shah Rukh and Mr. Asad Javed were selected on the Punjab University Hockey Team

and the brilliant Hockey Players represented the Punjab University in the All Pakistan Hockey

Championship Organized by the HEC at Peshawar University and they showed the best capabilities

and specially Hafiz Shah Rukh being the brain of the Punjab University Hockey Team as center

forward. He is captain of the Hailey College Banking & Finance Team also.

Department for the first time organized “Students Orientation Program” for the new students.

The Department organized welcome & farewell parties for Master program (Morning/Evening).

Annual sports of the Department were held during the month of March/April, 2009.

Institute of Administrative Sciences:

Students of IAS have actively participated in co-curricular activities including sports, youth forum,

debates and essay writing competitions throughout the year and have won prizes. Seminars,

welcome & farewell parties of the students have also been organized in 2009-10. Moreover, a job fair

has also been organized for graduating students of the Institute to enhance their job market by

strengthening the University-Industry linkages.

Institute of Business Administration:

IBA bade farewell to MBA (Evening) session 2008-2010 on 05-10-2009.

BA arranged farewell in the honour of Syed Muhammad Naseer Ahmad Ajmal. Associate Professor

on his retirement on 30-10-2009.

IBA bade farewell to MBA (Morning) session 2007-2009 on 11-11-2009.

IBA organized Graduation Ceremony of its very first BBA (Hons) Session 2005-2009 and Welcome

Party of BBA/MBA 2009 on 23-01-2010.

Annual sport gala was organized from March 26, 2010 to March 28, 2010.

IBA arranged two-days trip to Murree for all the Boys studying in BBA (Morning/Afternoon) from

26-03-2010 to 28-03-2010.

IBA arranged two-days trip to Murree for all the Girls studying in BBA (Morning/Afternoon) from

02-04-2010 to 04-04-2010.

IBA arranged two-days trip to Murree for all the Boys studying in MBA (Morning) from 09-04-2010 to

11-04-2010.

IBA arranged two-days trip to Murree for all the Girls studying in MBA (Morning) from 16-04-2010 to

18-04-2010.

IBA bade farewell to PGD (Evening) session 2008-2009 on 22-05-2010.

IBA donated an amount of Rs 3,200,000/- (Rupee three million and two hundred thousand only) for

affectees of the flood in Pakistan 2010.

Institute of Business & Information Technology:

Sports: The students of IBIT have participated actively in sports activities throughout the year

including Cricket, Football, Basketball, Badminton and Squash. Sports gala has been arranged in

March 2010 in which both male and female students participated enthusiastically. Afterwards, a price

distribution ceremony was hosted where certificates and trophies were distributed among the

winners.

Societies: There is a Student Executive Council at IBIT that takes a keen interest in events like

Annual Dinner, Farewell Party, Sporting Events, Conferences and Industrial Liaison activities, on a

regular basis. Brilliant minds from all the batches constitute the executive members of the Student

Executive Committee. The SEC is further divided into different sub-committees that deal with different

areas like public relations, industrial liaison, functions and events. Student‟s Executive Committee

provides an excellent opportunity for the students to enhance their skills in their relevant areas of

interest. It also serves as a forum where the administration and students interact frequently to discuss

matters of mutual interests.

Tours: During the year 2010, due to the security reasons, the institute‟s students have not visited any

places outside Lahore.

Annual Dinners /Farewell Parties: An Award Distribution Ceremony cum Annual Dinner has taken

place in February 2010 being attended by huge no. of students, Alumni, staff and faculty. Gold

Medals were distributed among the top student of every passed out batch of IBIT. Dinner was hosted

afterwards.

FACULTY OF EDUCATION

Department of Special Education:

Department of Special Education arranged the Annual Sports 2010 on May13, 2010.

Department of Special Education arranged one day Study Tour to Khewra Mines on 22nd May 2010.

Department of Special Education arranged Annual Educational Tour on July 12, 2010 to July 17th, 2010.

Institute of Education & Research:

The Institute of Education and Research has been arranging all the above types of students‟ activities

with the coordination of all Departments of IER in every year.

FACULTY OF ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY

Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology:

Extracurricular Activities: Institute has provided sufficient facilities and opportunities for

extracurricular activities, Professional Development Workshops, Soft skills and communication skills.

Continuous Professional Development Cell is established for guidance and placement of graduating

students. Institute has started E-magazine ChemVoice which is published quarterly.

Institute has been arranging sports festival in the month of March to welcome spring season in

enthusiastic way. Due to the active and influential participation of Institute students in Sports, ICET

has achieved 3rd position in Interdepartmental Sports Championship of University with distinctions in

following events:

Football winner, Cricket 4th position, Table tennis runner up, Racing winner

Industrial internship and training: 150 students of this institute of fifth semester were placed in

various process industries for 4 – 6 weeks industrial training.

Seminars/ conferences/refresher courses/ organized exhibition:

3nd Symposium on Engineering Sciences 10th March 2010.

A special lecture was delivered by Engr. Shahzad Yazdani on ”How to prepare for an interview”.

A lecture was delivered on “Measures for low carbon economy”, by Prof. A. R. Saleemi from UET.

Dr. Samar Mubarakmand, nuclear scientist of Pakistan, visited institute.

CPDC held a one day seminar on “selling yourself through resume” at seminar room of ICET in which

students from 6th and 8th semester have participated. The resource person was Mr. Aatif Raheem

(Associate Professor, Institute of Administrative Sciences) and the objective was to refine the resume

and its technical aspects.

Centre for Coal Technology:

Co-curricular activities like sports, well come party and debates were conducted by the students.

Institute of Quality & Technology Management:

Sports gala of IQTM was held from 22nd March to 24th March 2010.

Mohammad Husnain Abbas (7th Semester & Vice President ASME PU) competed in SLS (Student

Leadership Seminar) 2010 held in UET Lahore under the banner of ASME (American Society of

Mechanical Engineers). He got 2nd Position in Presentation Competition in which 8 other Engineering

Universities of Pakistan (NUST,GIKI,NED Karachi, UET Peshawar, UET Jamshoro, UET Lahore,

NUST Karachi, QUEST ).

College of Engineering & Emerging Technologies:

Students participated in flower competition held at Government College University, Lahore.

Students visited different industries to have practical demonstration of the industrial processes.

A welcome party was arranged for students of 1st semester.

Annual sports were arranged, which included Table Tennis, Carom Board, Cricket, Football, Hocky,

Virtual sports.

Students participated in sports at university level.

Centre for Clinical Psychology:

Speech Therapy: Centre for Clinical Psychology has provided Therapeutic services to 260 patients

with Psychiatric problems and speech problems.

Community Work at Chamrupur / Bhatta Pind: Centre is also doing community projects from 2006.

Initially mapping in Chamrupur village was carried out to identify Special Children to provide these

services at their door steps. This year mapping for Lakhuwal and Bhatta Pind Villages have been

carried out to identify special children. Special education and speech therapy are provided to these

identified children at “Local Centre” established by Centre for Clinical Psychology at Chamrupur. Staff

for this Service Delivery Centre (SDC)has been hired from the local population with the aim that when

they will be trained then they can run this Centre independently and CCP will establish another (SDC)

in an other locality after doing mapping and identifying Special Children and their needs.

Rose Garden: This project was run in collaboration with Punjab Institute of Mental Health, Lahore for

the rehabilitation of chronic female schizophrenic (called member‟s) since 2006. More than 250

patients have been rehabilitated so for. Work has been done to produce economic independence in

women by providing them occupational opportunities to learn different vocational skills such as

stitching, embroidery, cloth painting, block painting in the premises of Rose Garden. Many dignitaries

and teachers/students from different schools, colleges have visited this facilities and greatly

appreciated the effort of the Centre and the members.

SOS: Centre is also running its internship program at SOS village, Lahore. In addition, yearly

workshops to train the mothers around psychological needs of these children and associated

psychological problems from all over Pakistan been arranged at the Centre.

INMOL: Students of the Centre also go to INMOL Hospital, Lahore and provide Psychological

Services to cancer patients and their caregives to deal with the stress of the disease and how to take

care of these terminal patients caring. Students also carry out small scale research projects which is

in process of being published.

Amin Maktab: Centre is also involved in community projects with Amin Maktab, an institute for

special children. Students go to the community Centres of the special children, established at

different schools in close vicinities to Lahore. Counseling services are also provided to their mothers

at these Centres.

CWC: Centre is also involved in community projects with Child Welfare Centre, an institute for special

children, established in Punjab University, Lahore. Students go to this Centre and provide

psychological services during their supervised internship.

National Centre of Excellence in Molecular Biology:

Indoor and outdoor games and tournaments for faculty and students.

Institute of Biochemistry & Biotechnology:

During the year 2009-10, students visited different research-based organization including

pharmaceutical industries Tandleyanwaala Sugar Mill etc. to have practical understanding of the

theoretical knowledge. Excursion tours to Khanas Pur, annual sports, welcome and farewell parties

and annual dinner were also arranged to rejuvenate the students‟ physical and mental capabilities.

The students organized social gatherings on frequent basis during this period. These include the

awarded to the top position holders of various degree programs of the College. A farewell party and a

welcome party were arranged for outgoing as well as new entrants of this College. Moreover, academic

Centre for Undergraduate Studies:

The Annual Sports of Centre for Undergraduate Studies were held on March 2010. About one

hundred and fifty students took a part in different games like cricket, football, badminton, table

tennis, tug of war and some other indoor games with enthusiasm and great sportsmanship. The

prize distribution ceremony was held on in March 2010 at the Annual Dinner Program. The sports

program was a great success and was greatly appreciated by both students and teaching faculty.

Field Study Tours: Like previous years, Center has successfully arranged field study tours to Chhanga

Manga, Kalar kahar and Khanaspur. Students of Botany, Zoology and other relevant subjects took part in

these tours heartily. These were well-managed, disciplined, and knowledgeful tours, which increased the

intellectual ability of students to a significant extent.
