Hello year 7! So, the next time I see and speak to you all I’ll be calling you year 8’s! That will take some getting used to! With the recent news regarding Leicester and the rise in cases, I know some of you may be concerned right now. You are not alone, but if we all follow the rules carefully we will beat this virus. Please stick to the government guidelines, keep washing your hands regularly and avoid being out and about unless it is absolutely necessary. During the summer holidays, school will be closed. Enjoy the holidays but please do remember to social distance. We (as in Leicester) are STILL in lockdown due to a rise in cases. This means not meeting friends on the park, going for unnecessary shopping trips or visiting family members at this time. This means we need to stay at home and not go out. This virus has NOT disappeared yet. We all need to stay vigilant and follow the rules so that we can all do the things that we enjoy. Please listen to the advice carefully, and follow the rules so we can all meet our family and friends again when it’s safe to do so. During the summer holidays if you are worried about something or you experience any difficulty such as a family member getting ill and you are unable to get support, or need to report a safeguarding concern then – at any time - please email [email protected] Thank you to all of you that have worked so hard this year in the strangest of times. I know it’s been a tough year for you all, but these things make you stronger as a person and you will reap the rewards for your efforts. Have a lovely summer year 7… see you in year 8, and as always stay positive, keep smiling...here’s a little quote to get you all thinking…

YEAR 8 UPDATE

Hello Year 8,It is time for the summer holidays! Myself and Mr Samuel hope you have a lovely summer break and that you stay safe with your loved ones. We look forward to seeing you all as soon as we can and hope that it is sooner rather than later. We simply can’t believe how quickly this year has gone. Mr Samuel and I have both really enjoyed working with you as your Head of Year and Assistant Head of Year. I cannot begin to tell you how excited we are about continuing to work with you in Year 9, supporting you and watching you succeed, develop and achieve! Please continue to read through and work on anything that is sent to you. Remembering this quote at all times:

“EDUCATION IS OUR PASSPORT TO THE FUTURE,FOR TOMORROW BELONGS TO THE PEOPLE WHO PREPARE FOR IT TODAY!”

On another topic, as you all of you know myself and Mr Samuel are great Liverpool fans so we would just like to mention that: LIVERPOOL ARE THE CHAMPIONS! We recommend you start to support his team as they are simply the best! We know Mr Patel and Mr Adam would also agree with this statement!

Please continue to follow government guidelines on how to stop this virus spreading and staying safe at all times. It will not go away if we don’t ALL play a part in fighting it.

Stay safe, stay awesome!

Mrs Boyce and Mr Samuel

Hello Year 9 (the last time you will be referred to as such!) I hope this final message reaches you in good health… And so we reach the end of what can only be described as the most confusing, challenging and surreal academic year any of us has experienced. Unfortunately, the actual virus is still present and we must remain vigilant, especially in the areas that most of us live in. I know some of you are worried about falling behind in your learning journey and gaps in your education. Just remind yourself the entire country and most parts of the world are in the same predicament. It is very easy to dismiss your mental health and think it is not important. However, a recent study by youngminds.org found 67% of parents were concerned about the long-term impact of the coronavirus on their child’s mental health. Which is why our primary concern is for your mental health and wellbeing and therefore have been sent packs to help with these issues over the summer. If you come back to school, whenever that is, with a positive, growth mind-set, we can work together to ensure you remain as successful as you have the potential to be. It may be difficult, but hopefully we can find some light and positives in these experiences we have faced. “In the depth of winter, I finally learnt that within me lay an invincible summer” Albert Camus I hope you all look after yourselves and your family, and I hope to see you all very soon. Take care,Mr Seedat

Dear Year Ten, As Leicester continues with lock down I know that some of you will be annoyed with the restrictions and want to go out and see you friends but it is really important that you stay away from large gatherings and continue social distanc-ing with people who are not in your household. We need to help to reduce the cases in Leicester so that restrictions can be lifted and we can move towards some sort of normality. Whilst a lot of young people are asymptomatic it is important to remember that the virus can still be transmitted. Our lives have changed quite drastically in a short space of time, and new challenges are plentiful. Whilst there is still uncertainty around next year one thing is for sure, there will be exams. You need to be prepared for that as well as any adjustments that may happen. Your tutors have enjoyed speaking to you over the last few weeks and finding out what you are all up to. It seems that many of you are getting up very late. Very often after midday. Routines and sleep patterns are important for your health as young adults. Use the summer to reset your body clock, go to bed earlier, get up earlier, this will help you in your routine in September when we hopefully get back into school. I have two tasks for you to be getting on with over the summer, in addition to the work that has been set for you.

TASK 1Take a look at careers section on the school website, you will find links to colleges and you can gather information on apprenticeships. Please also take the time to complete the careers survey from Mrs Squires in the last update. We will be doing a lot of work around college applications and personal statements when we return. If you have an idea where you want to be heading next year or even if you don’t, now is the time to be researching your options.Things to consider: 1. Will this course help me to get where I want to go? 2. Will I enjoy it? 3. How will I get there? 4. How does it cater for my needs? 5. What qualification will I be working towards and is this enough for my next step? TASK 2Reflect on your time in year ten. As you approach your final year with us decide what you want to get out of it.Ask yourself: 1. Are you happy with where you are right now? 2. Do you need to make any changes to allow you to reach your potential? 3. How will you get to where you want to be? This is not how we envisioned sending you off into the summer holidays ready for year 11. Life has thrown us a curve ball but we know that each and every one of you, year tens, will come back in September more determined and more focused to reach your potential.

Take care, complete your work and keep smiling. We hope to see you in September.

Mrs White and Mr Dobney

Some of you may have seen that the Government are starting to think about what GCSE exams will look like next year (summer 2021). It is important you are aware that exams and assessments will take place next year but they are currently looking at ways in which:

• some assessments can be adapted • the exams can take place a few weeks later so that you have as much lesson time as possible next year to ensure you are fully prepared to take those assessments. At this stage the changes that the Government want to make are being shared with teachers so that we can give our opinions on what they are proposing. Once the changes have been confirmed we will let you know but we don’t want you to worry about this until we see you in September when we will be able to give you the confirmed changes. Please be assured we will be doing are best to support you throughout next year with all of your subjects.
