Inspired and InspiringIn 2005, Student U.s co-founder and executive director,DanKimberg,sawrst-handthebenetsofastudents-teaching-students model. He worked with Duke andUNC students to bring that model to Durham, and insummer2007,StudentU.usheredinitsrst50students.The students surpassed all expectations, showing majorimprovements not only in test scores but in attitudetoward school. Each summer, Student U. welcomes 50more rising sixth graders from Durham Public Schools.

The Student U. model is successful because it harnessesstudents power to change the world. The programinspires and empowers students of all ages by challengingthem to do something meaningful, to use their passionto make a difference in their community. Student U.gives students and teachers a shared vision for abrighter future and the courage to make it a reality.

We went out on the oceancatchingshandothercreaturesandexaminingthemundera microscope. We saw wild horses, and we picked up somecrabs, clams, and seashells. We went inside to see differentanimals and we saw this one crab about to come out of itsshell but sad to say, the crab died on its way out of its shell.Overall the trip was fantastic, and so is Student U.
