Every question that popped into my head as I was reading was answered, except I wish there was a more organized and

strict order shown in which the class would do units - or are there even units?1 4.17%

Everything is clear and specific. There is no room for questioning and gives a simple, straight forward outline of the class.

Though, it is a little bit intimidating especially for new freshman.1 4.17%

Expectations are clearly stated and the syllabus is a half-way point, perfect for the transition from middle school to high

school.1 4.17%

Hardware operating system-what about Windows Vista? 1 4.17%

I almost didn't read the syllabus because I couldn't find the link for it... the place where it says "Course Syllabus" and has a

list of links below it blends in too much with the other text so I almost missed it. Also, when you list the grading scale in the

course syllabus, I see that it is on a regular scale. I think that it should be on honors so that they get used to working with the

honors grading scale.

1 4.17%

I did the course over the summer myself, and it was a good overview of what I experienced. 1 4.17%

I especially liked the Course Goals and Expectations, but I think the idea of an online course can be very disorganized. 1 4.17%

I thought the syllabus explained the course really well. The syallabus was organized really well into its different sections.

Everything was short and reader-friendly, but gave enough information to give a person a really good idea of what the

course would be like.

1 4.17%

I'm not sure, but is there anything that they need to do before to prepare them for the course? Is there anything that they arealready supposed to know? What are they to do if they do not have the ability to fulfill all the online requirements?

1 4.17%

It gave a very descriptive summary of what will happen in the class. Also enough information so that one shouldn't fail

because they will always be there to help. The online requirements would be hard for the students to get and a lso might hurt

their learning experience.

1 4.17%

It gives a very detailed overview of the course: the expectations, assignments, grading scale and policy, and student conduct. 1 4.17%

It might be helpful to talk about the topics you will be studying (cell structure, life cycles etc.) so kids can know what they

will be learning through the course, not just the skills they will lea rn.1 4.17%

It says everything you need to know. 1 4.17%

It showed what would be done in the class and talked about some of the main things that will be learnt. 1 4.17%

It shows students basics for learning and good strategies to taking good notes, getting key information, etc. It also shows you

how to use Excel and other programs for useful skills. (data tables, putting data table info. to make graphs, etc.)1 4.17%

It tells us that we will be learning necessary skills such as note taking and report writing through the course. The language is

short and clear, so it's easy to understand. It doesn't however tell us how the course plans on teaching us these skills.1 4.17%

It's good because it explains how you grade, what they'll leran the requirements for the computer so you can actually use the

program.1 4.17%

Take into consideration that not all students can obtain a computer or laptop on any given day. Providing mini-laptops to

students for the six-week course would be an excellent idea.1 4.17%

The course overview gives a good sense of what you are responsible for learning in this class. 1 4.17%

The course syllabus was easy to follow and included clear labeling. 1 4.17%

The course syllabus was very descriptive and gave me many answers. 1 4.17%

The syllabus explained certain details of the course that were important to know. However, I am concerned about the needed

software. Will these be easy to atttain and work well, or will students have continuous problems with them.1 4.17%

the syllabus explained in great detail about what was expected throughout the course, the requirements, the materials

needed, etc.1 4.17%

The syllabus is very descriptive but easy to understand, and explains everything needed to know. 1 4.17%

All the objectives are not hard to reach and are specific as to what you should be able to accomplish. 1 4.17%

Clearly stated and easy to understand. 1 4.17%

Each objective was stated clearly and I understood what I would be reading. 1 4.17%

Everything is laid out clearly and is easy to understand. 1 4.17%

Help tell you what you should get out of it and what you should be able to do 1 4.17%

I had no questions about the course after reading the moodle. 1 4.17%

I like it. It's a very specific summary. 1 4.17%

I thought the targets were clearly stated at the beginning of each module and gave me a brief intro to what I was just about to

learn about. I also liked how there were the vocab words that were going to be taught in the module. That also helped to

make the beginning clear and brief. (Again making it reader-friendly)

1 4.17%

I understand very well what the course will teach me to do, but again, I'd like to know the order in which I would learn these

things.1 4.17%

It clearly states what you will be learning throughout the module. 1 4.17%

It is relatively clear, but it can be difficult because it doesn't specify what the technics being used are. Obviously that is the

point of the lesson, but it might help to be a little more specific and talk without using terms the reader wouldn't already

know.

1 4.17%

It shows the goals and objectives at the very beginning. 1 4.17%

It's good, because it's stated in first person, not "you will learn how to....", and I think it gives the student more motivation

and feels more natural.1 4.17%

The headings are clear and easy to find if people need to read that section about the class. 1 4.17%

the learning objectives are very short and to the point. 1 4.17%

Page 5: Student Survey Results Honors Bio

8/14/2019 Student Survey Results Honors Bio

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/student-survey-results-honors-bio 5/23

The learning objectives/targets start off very simple and then are broken down into smaller parts. It is easier to understand

what your learning objectives are. The tree map is a very good visual aid in understanding.1 4.17%

The objectives are quite clear, but some of them, especially module 5, seems too general. I think that the given explanation

is too vague for an honor student to read. 1 4.17%

The titles for each section clearly describe the purpose of the section. It tells us exactly what we should expect to learn from

reading that specific portion.1 4.17%

There is a thorough rundown of abstracts for each goal. 1 4.17%

They are clear and easy to understand 1 4.17%

This seems unclear at first, but after the SCAN and RUN powerpoint, it makes perfect sense. 1 4.17%

Very easy to understand. 1 4.17%

When displaying the lea rning objectives on the modules, students focus better on what exactly to write and discuss about. 1 4.17%

You can see them very cleary, and they are easy to read. 1 4.17%

I think the directions and instructions give a good desription on what to expect when taking the class. The directions and

instructions are detailed so there arent very many questions about what to expect.1 4.17%

I thought the directions were clear. The video for the thinking map module was cool and the sentences were fine, but the

layout of it was a bit confusing. The jumping around to each of the different types of maps just made the video a little

confusing. The specific sentences were good though. All the other instructions were very clear and direct to what was

supposed to be

1 4.17%

If they cannot get to google.docs, perhaps providing them with a link to instructions on how to set up an account or how to

get there, since explaining would take up too much time. This would make it more convenient for the teacher and the

student.

1 4.17%

It is easy to understand what you need to do for each activity. 1 4.17%

It is very clear and easy to read, but it would be nice to have an overview first. 1 4.17%

Most of the directions are clear, but I don't understand HOW to upload worksheets onto google docs. 1 4.17%

Nothing is left out and is clearly worded. I had no problems understanding what to do. 1 4.17%

Some of the activities were clear in instruction, like the lab reports and experiments. But it didn't explain exactly where

quizzes would be taken - are they online or in class? Also, I don't know where/how I would participate in these online

forums, discussions or whatever they are. It's a pretty new concept so I would need to know more about it.

1 4.17%

sometimes the instructions and other things are way too long, people get bored and tend to to skip through it and skim 1 4.17%

Tells you what must be done. 1 4.17%

the activity directions meet the requirements of what you would expect from any other instructions 1 4.17%

The directions are clear and easy to understand. However, some students may not be as "tech savvy" as others. Will the

teacher teach students how to use Google docs? I just started using it for the first time this year, and it was not as easy to use

1 4.17%

Page 7: Student Survey Results Honors Bio

as one may think...

The directions are clear, but they could be more specific. 1 4.17%

The directions are very clear, but there are many. Maybe they should be a little more consise. However, I feel like thereshould be a way for students to ask questions about the instruction to the teacher while they are working at home. Also, the

teacher as to be willing to answer the questions and/or check the emails or messages with the students questions.

1 4.17%

The directions/instructions are quite clear, but may arise some questions. Explaining this thoroughly on the first day of the

course will be great.1 4.17%

The instructions are easy to follow most of the time. 1 4.17%

The instructions could be more clear of where they are . They might be confused of which directions to follow. If you have a

large title of directions/instructions, surely no one will get lost.1 4.17%

The overview has clear directions and explains what will be expected in the course. 1 4.17%

There aren't clear step-by-step directions. 1 4.17%They are clear directions. The language is easy to understand and is very straight forward. However there were parts of the

powerpoint that were somewhat hard to read due to the small text or seemed intimidating because of the long paragraphs.1 4.17%

They were pretty clear on what was to be done. 1 4.17%

They're short, quick and straight to the point. 1 4.17%

Yes, the directions for the course are very clear, however some of the requirements are not fair. Like having a computer for

on-line assignments.1 4.17%

You can easily see what you need to do for each module. 1 4.17%

I enjoyed the videos and pictures etc. at the beginning. I also like the idea to share things with other students through a blog,

comment page etc.1 4.17%

I found that the activities were engaging and really helped to explain some of the concepts even further. The activities

helped to use the concepts in a way that was easier for me to understand and I think using the concepts in a real "hands-

on"activity helps to learn the concepts better.

1 4.17%

I liked how there are many different kinds of activities: videos, power points, sound byte things, comic strips, etc. 1 4.17%

I personally don't like giving presentations but the activities seemed do-able. 1 4.17%

I think the activites are engaging and make you interested in the class. 1 4.17%

It makes me look forward to learning what it says I will learn. It's just that there are so many videos, and I personally learn

better from reading. I would get bored watching all of the videos and powerpoints. The other part is that I wouldn't be

excited about group activities/collaboration, but that is only because I personally hate group activities.

1 4.17%

It's well put together because you use what you learn to do the activities. 1 4.17%

Not too easy and not too tedious. Providing other optional activities for the students who are struggling with the material

would help them.1 4.17%

Page 9: Student Survey Results Honors Bio

Some of the activities are sort of boring, since they are just rechecking of what they just learned, like the SCAN and RUN

activity.1 4.17%

Some of the activities do not seem engaging, but others, such as designing a cell phone, do seem engaging. 1 4.17%

The activities are of good use in preparation of Honors Biology, but teenagers often get off track and find some things

boring. Try to make things more fun for teenagers.1 4.17%

The activities are to help students transition into a faste r paced class and helps them develop new skills. The activities sound

like what you would do in any science class, but more in depth.1 4.17%

The activities are very entertaining and help with learning the subject. 1 4.17%

The activities seem engaging but some of them seem kind of dull. 1 4.17%

The activities seem to be engaging, however, students working on a computer for a couple of hours will soon lose focus and

get tired of staring at the screen even though there may be interesting activities.1 4.17%

The activities seem very fun and enjoyable, but at the same time you learn a lot of things. 1 4.17%

The animation makes the activities memorable and engaging. Acronyms also help make the lessons easier to commit to

memory.1 4.17%

The two column note taking module included a cool feature in which there was a blog where past note taking could be

discussed.1 4.17%

They are straight forward and simple, but remember this is a summer class that most of the students probably don't want to

take. So try to make them more entertaining, hands on, and fun.1 4.17%

They encourage you to think while you are playing the game, so you are interested in the activity and reviewing what you've

learned at the same time.1 4.17%

They make kids get involved and give them examples on how to do things to make sure if they aren't clear on anything 1 4.17%

They will be done and they should be done by a certain date. 1 4.17%

They're engaging because, for example, one of the activities requires the person to write about themselves; they won't get

bored with the activity.1 4.17%

They're very interactive. 1 4.17%

All the activities clearly fit in with the learning targets. 1 4.17%

Although they may not be enjoyable, they teach the necessary skills. 1 4.17%

at the end of the activities, it even explains how you can apply the learning targets in other classes (such has how to take

effective notes)1 4.17%

Each activity focuses on a certain topic which relates to one of the learning targets. 1 4.17%

Each activity helpes and corresponds with each learning objective in some way. 1 4.17%

Every detail is pretty much covered, it's good. 1 4.17%

I strongly believe because the activities all a re very much relating to the targets, and they help lea rn about what is taught in

the lesson.1 4.17%

I think that the lessons are very useful to incoming freshman and that they will help me with biology this year. After briefly

going through ths sight, I'm interested in learning these tools which seem very helpful.1 4.17%

In learning, activities work very well and these activities explain the learning targets and help enough so that you get the

information.1 4.17%

In module 3, the activity requires you to use what you learned from the module in order to complete the activity. 1 4.17%

It is a good review and wraps things up. It also tells you which areas you are familiar in and which areas you need more help

in.1 4.17%

Like I said in the last question, the activities really helped me to understand the concepts and were also engaging. 1 4.17%

The activites will teach you how to create a thinking map that you can study and they will also allow feedback to be given to

you through the internet.1 4.17%

The activities and the class will help with developing new skills used in the Honors Biology class. 1 4.17%

The activities are definitely help achieve learning goals. 1 4.17%

The activities are educational, effective, and not tedious. They are not to simple or too long as to lose the student's interest.

They are very straightforward and to-the-point.1 4.17%

The activities follow a step-by-step process in order to reach the learning targets. 1 4.17%

The activities gave a clear idea of how the target is gone about. 1 4.17%

The activities help greatly in teaching the lesson. 1 4.17%

The activities outstandingly achieve the learning targets, and surpass it. 1 4.17%

There's some videos and/or links that just provide extra information that I don't think the student needs. 1 4.17%

They are created in a way that you know you are working towards a target, which is good. 1 4.17%

they help alot to achieve most of the learning targets but you will stil l have to go and find some out by yourself some times. 1 4.17%

I found that some parts of moodle seemed to drag on. 1 4.17%

I like how it's all in order. 1 4.17%

I think that the modules follow a good system with good flow. I like that it starts off with something visual, like a diagram or

the end to make sure you really understand the material.

I thought for most of the modules, they were flowing. It was module 4, that I thought was a little less flowing then the

others. I thought that the evaluating websites video did not explain things as well as the power point that was created. I think

that the video explained some things, but should have been put before the power point so the power point could clarify somethings that the video did not. The second video was fine and the quizzes in the beginning and end of the module were good.

The other modules were really good.

1 4.17%

It clearly builds up as you progress through the module, but each activity seems very separate which makes it a little choppy.

It would be nice if each directly goes in to each other.1 4.17%

It contains all parts and is easy to read. Also each step is in order. 1 4.17%

it flows well, and tells you what to do so you can finish it easily 1 4.17%

It flows well, but I feel like some parts are talked about too much. I think the students need less instruction and more

practice.1 4.17%

It includes everything you need to know. 1 4.17%

Some modules seem like they can take a while. 1 4.17%

Some of it has things from the previous module in it, so sometimes it doesn't work with the current module. 1 4.17%

Sometimes I feel that a module is just a block and then you move to the next one. I think it would be better to have

notetaking and thinking maps in 1 module rather than 2.1 4.17%

The module flows good, but they might confuse the students. 1 4.17%

The module steps follow a certain order that is quite easy to understand. 1 4.17%

The modules flow and are very organized and easy to follow. 1 4.17%

the modules flow well from beginning to end because each one starts with the learning topics and then goes on into theintroductions and then goes farther into detail (this is a very nice pattern to follow during each module)

1 4.17%

The modules state the learning objectives/targets, then show the videos, and then offer activities requiring the person to use

the information from the videos.1 4.17%

The modules were well written and easy to understand. 1 4.17%

They make sure that each module is completed and they want it completed by a certain time (within the 6 week period)

because its not a self-paced class.1 4.17%

Group work is a major part of Honors Biology and these activities prepare them for working with new people and how to

make sure everyone does the same amount of work.1 4.17%

I didn't think the activities really encourage the interaction with other students in the class because it seems that the modules

and activities felt more like they were to be done indiviual. I think that in some ways there could be better encouragementfor interactions between other students.

1 4.17%

I only saw one module that offered an activity that had to be completed in groups. 1 4.17%

I think because students will not be literally face to face with other students, they will not likely fee l encouraged to get the

ideas and opinions of other students.1 4.17%

I think that most of the skills discussed would be ones that I would encorporate into my work when I was working solo, such

as doing my homework. I think that when I would use those skills the most would be at times when I was doing individual

work.

1 4.17%

I think this is a good way to communicate and interact with other students in this class online. It is also a good way to

Some of the activities include getting into groups during the class and says it helps to learn with others. 1 4.17%

The activities don't really require the involvement of other peers. Just telling someone to post comments in the forum andreview three others doesn't really spark a huge amount of interaction. Try to use group projects that forces kids to interact

and meet others in person.

There could definitely be more places to interact with students either through chat or otherwise where you could login and

student. Maybe working with another student on certain projects would induce them to think more carefully.1 4.17%

Assessments are well though out and are easy to understand. 1 4.17%

Each assessment links back to a certain learning target. 1 4.17%

Good questions asked in the assessments. 1 4.17%

I think that for the most part the assessments do a good job of evaluating what you learned. 1 4.17%

If directions are followed and students do not procrastinate, then they should be fine. 1 4.17%

It may take a fair amount of time but if done corrrectly and given the time to finish it, you will understand the learning

targets1 4.17%

Nothing seems too hard, there is more than enough information for the students to do well on assessments. 1 4.17%

Since the quizzes and assessments all check if you're correctly using the module, then it works really well. 1 4.17%

The activities have to do with the learning objectives and well explain the topic. The assessments are also fair because they

have to do with the whole module.1 4.17%

The assessments address the learning targets but nothing that was not included in the learning targets. 1 4.17%

The assessments all seem fair and reasonable. All tie into the learning targets. 1 4.17%

The assessments are a good way for incoming freshman to prepare themselves for what honors bio is like during the schoolyear.

1 4.17%

The assessments are fair and address the learning target. I think it also helped the people learning new things to know if they

actually learned something or did they just rush through everything. I think they were fair because if you went through the

modules you should be able to get the assessments. Just like in a regular class.

1 4.17%

The assessments are fair and they do address the learning targets because they are about the modules and important

information you learned about it.1 4.17%

I think that there should be more pictures included. There's a lot of videos, but pictures and maybe even links to websites

I think you should definitely tell them how to upload worksheets onto google docs. 1 5.88%

I thought maybe a few extra resources could be added because it would only help the person learning, but it's fine the way it

I like it, but I think that it should visually look more pleasing and organized. 1 6.67%

I like the syllabus but I think it should be a little more specific and more expectations 1 6.67%

I really think this is a good way to prepare freshman for honors bio. I wish that the online course was avaliabe for us this

year. I think it is a good motivation that you can take part of the class online and not have to wake up for summer school

everyday. It also prepares the students well for what to expect during the school year.

1 6.67%

I think that overall the course is very good and will be very helpful to incoming freshman. I think it also adresses alot of the

needs we have when it comes to biology. Alot of the things I have had trouble with are adressed in the course. I think that

the course will really help me this year.

1 6.67%

I thought everything was pretty much well done. The organization was very easy to follow and I thought that helps to make

the learning process even better. This was a very well made course. :)1 6.67%

If the class was offered at a later time than 8 AM, then I think a lot more students would be interested in participating. A big

reason that I and many of my friends/classmates didn't take the course was because of the 8 AM time. I felt like I get up

early every day during the school year so I didn't want to get up early over the summer as well. Also, I don't know how often

students would meet with each other and with the teacher, but I think it should be 2-3 times a week. Something that was

really great about taking health in summer school was that I got to meet and become friends with many kids who were going

to be in my classes (or if not then at least I got to know some other freshmen that I could like eat lunch with or something)

during freshman year. My health class wasn't taught by a teacher at the high school, but assuming that this course would be

it is also a good opportunity to meet your possible teacher and get used to how they grade you and their teaching style.

Make it less intimidating and more fun. Have projects that are entertaining and force the students to meet up with others,

Overall, i lied the format and idea of an online course. i would definitely ask my parents to take on online course. the issue

with me taking the class was that it was a lot of money for me to be taking 2 courses, and maybe an online one would be

cheaper. i would highly recommend this course to incoming freshmen.

Put less of a punishment on late-work. It is not the student's fault if they are sick or can't make it to school. 1 6.67%

Require more group activities, instead of just one-person activities. 1 6.67%

Spread the text on the page out a bit to not make it seem so overwhelming to learn everything might help. 1 6.67%

run more smoothly.1 6.67%
