Seniors Gwendolyn Gannon and Sydney Northern; Junior Bradley Weller; and, Sophomores Mitch Roehl and Rory Sherrod attended the Clearwater Choral Festival at UWEau Claire last weekend. Both Gwendolyn and Sydney were semifinalists in the soloist competition. They will be performing at the Overture Center in Madison on Thursday, October 29 at 8:00pm. A note from Mukwonago Automotive Instructor Pat Grady, “I would like to let you know of some donations that we have recently received to enhance our automotive program. The first one came at the conclusion of school this past year. ADAMM (Automotive Dealers Association of Mega Milwaukee) requested a short grant application to be filled out. The dealers reviewed our application and granted us over $2000.00 of SnapOn tools. Representatives from Lynch Automotive and Amoto Ford were on hand for the presentation. In early July, I attended automotive training at Fox Valley Technical College. After a week of hands on training twenty two schools out of fifty were presented checks for $250.00 to be used to purchase needed tools. This donation was given to us by WATDA (Wisconsin Automotive Truck Dealers Association). At the end of July, I attended the AYES/NATEF (Automotive Youth Educational Service) conference for a week in Kansas City. Again, through a grant, WATDA (Wisconsin Automotive Truck Dealers Association) covered all transportation and conference expenses. While at that conference and at a training session, I was selected by GATES Belt & Hose Company to receive a laser belt aligner and specialty pulley tool kit valued at over $400.00 to add to our schools specialty tools. All of the donations will help make our program state of the art and students will be able to use equipment that they will find at the workplace.” MHS SAVE (Students Against Violence Everywhere) celebrated National Safe Schools Week the week of October 1923. All week SAVE held a winter wear collection and a Twitter competition with students trying to tweet the most compliments with the hashtag (#brobenice) at MukSave Twitter. Throughout the week there was a homeroom on Monday, “Send a Smile” (students sent kind words to others in first hour) on Tuesday and the ASA rally on Thursday. The rally was the peak of the week, with athletes performing on a halfpipe while a host discussed bullying.

MHS’s Culinary Skills Club’s first ever high school garden was a great success as they used the vegetables in several dishes in the Global Foods class and for catering the staff at conferences. They grew a variety of tomatoes and peppers in the garden located past the football field; several students in Mrs. Boston’s summer school class helped with watering and general maintenance. Students have learned about the value of gardening and different hybrids of peppers. Our challenge was porting water to the area, which they hope to improve for next year. Also, Culinary Skills class prepared dinner for all staff this past Monday before parentteacher conferences. They created 3 soups, garlic parmesan breadsticks, house salad, etc. Our PTAG group worked with the group and supplied the beverages and desserts. All was very appreciated and it was nice to see staff get together before conferences.

BIG BEND ELEMENTARY

On Friday, October 23rd Big Bend Elementary celebrated their sixth annual PTO Halloween Party. Children enjoyed fun games, a bounce house, cotton candy, popcorn and a costume contest. All proceeds to benefit PTO’s playground fund.

Big Bend and the MASD community is continuing to support Eddie, a BBES student. He was diagnosed with Morquio Syndrome at age 2 ½. This is a progressive disorder arresting growth and causing severe bone disease in young children. Since his diagnosis, Eddie has had to endure more than 15 surgeries and will need another in the near future. To support Eddie, two styles of Tshirts are for sale and BBES has scheduled days throughout the year to wear them. To order a Tshirt please visit http://www.masd.k12.wi.us/bbes/.

Most classrooms will be having a brief Halloween celebration on Friday, October 30th. Students have been invited to participate in the schoolwide costume parade at 2:30, a great opportunity for students to show off their Halloween wear.

Two Big Bend Elementary School teachers were recently recognized as Rotary Teachers of the Month. Congratulations to 5th grade teacher Elise Hetzel and 6th grade teacher Marianne Kalashian who have successfully implemented the Personalized Learning classrooms.

BBES Students exceeded their goal of collecting $1,000 in the "All For Books" campaign by collecting over $1,600 and having LeRoy Butler slime five staff members after they reached their goal. The money collected will put books in the hands of those less fortunate. Also, LeRoy Butler, former Green Bay Packer and originator of the “Lambeau Leap”, stopped by Big Bend Elementary to give an antibullying presentation.

EAGLEVILLE ELEMENTARY

On right is a picture of students planting various plants in the new butterfly garden at Eagleville Elementary. Parent volunteers from the PTO green team donated their time and talent to create the garden and supply the mulch and the plants so each student was able to plant something in the garden. Students used Eagleville's compost

to help plant the native flowers and add nutrients to the soil. The students compost their leftover food scraps on a daily basis at Eagleville. Each classroom at Eagleville is currently raising Monarch caterpillars and will be tagging and releasing them in spring along with the Science Club.

SECTION ELEMENTARY

Students in Section's IPLC are creating a video to help students learn about proper care for Chromebooks as we begin using these more frequently in the schools. They have written and acted in the production which Julie Hanisch is editing and then getting out to the schools.

Code Ninja, the after school club sponsored by MHS IT Academy, started on Oct. 22 with 31 Section students participating.

Section's Lego League Team includes ten 4th, 5th and 6th graders who are participating in the "Track TREK Challenge". They have studied impact of battery trash on the planet and are promoting the idea of using rechargeable batteries. On the right is the group sharing their message at Pick N Save.

INTERDISTRICT EVENTS

On the week of October 1216, the MHS Central Kitchen celebrated the National School Lunch Week with the annual “Grandparent Lunch Week” at the elementary schools. This is a great way for grandparents to share our district’s delicious hot lunches with their grandchildren and to meet their classmates.

The elementary (Big Bend, Clarendon, Eagleville, Rolling Hills and Section) Student Council executive boards, along with their advisors, went to Madison on October 16th for the Wisconsin Association of School Councils Conference. They attended workshops to help strengthen their leadership skills. This opportunity was sponsored by the school's PTO groups.

On Wednesday, October 21st the district Gifted and Talented Resource teachers, along with Elina Kats, one of the district guidance counselors, hosted a parent night that included a review of the GT program and a session on Mindfulness by Mrs. Kats.
