Therapy is based upon student need (e.g. supportive, psychodynamic, crisis, cognitive behavioral therapy and psychopharmacological). What if additional sessions are needed/requested? Services will be provided, if necessary, beyond the five sessions. When is therapy available? Therapy is available by appointment. In addition, walk-in hours are offered twice weekly (Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.; in Skyline, 2S-D45). How do I know if I need help? Staff David Stern, M.D., is a psychiatrist who has experience working with varied populations. His interests include psychotherapy and defining value in behavioral health. Dr. Stern is a psychotherapy supervisor for NYMC psychiatry residents and a candidate in

the Psychoanalysis Program at Columbia University.

Reon Baird-Feldman, Ph.D., is a clinical psychologist who has experience working with diverse populations including those seeking treatment for depression, anxiety, and lifestyle or career changes. In addition to her role at NYMC, she also provides services at a rehabilitation and

long-term care facility in Westchester County.

Robin Hershkowitz, M.S.W., LCSW-R, is a licensed clinical social worker. She has experience working with diverse populations including those with acute or long-term distress, adjustment to changes in lifecycle, victims of sexual assault/trauma, anxiety, depression,

sudden loss and bereavement and other life events. She is also certified in problem solving therapy, crisis prevention intervention and social work field instruction.

Student Mental Health & Wellness Services (smh&ws) We offer programs designed to reduce stress and anxiety to improve the overall well-being of students. We also provide free and confidential psychological and psychiatric services for New York Medical College (NYMC) students.

Student Mental Health Students are entitled to five free confidential sessions per academic year. These sessions may encompass support, therapy, diagnosis and initiation of treatment, if warranted. Referrals, as appropriate, will be offered to community providers with experience in student mental health.

We encourage you to contact us via email, [email protected], to set up an appointment. Additionally, we offer weekly walk-in hours (Tuesday and Wednesday, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.; in Skyline, 2S-D45).

Our service prides itself on confidentiality, professionalism, respect, empathy, awareness and enhancement of quality of life for students.

Wellness SMH&WS provides free workshops and activities that focus on

wellness in the areas of nutrition, sleep, anxiety, meditation,

stress management, mindfulness and awareness.

We also offer free, integrative exercises in yoga, Pilates and meditation to enhance the overall health of the student population.
