ACADEMIC HONESTY

Students shall not misrepresent exams, projects,

classwork, and/or homework assignments as

their own; when in fact, they are the work of

someone else.

► Academic dishonesty includes, but is not lim-

ited to the following:

► Turning in any work, or part thereof, that is not

the student's own work.

► Copying another student's or author's work or

class assignment

► Allowing another student to copy one's work

or class assignment

► Putting one's name on someone else's paper/

project

► Using a "cheat sheet" or any unauthorized

piece of writing on a quiz/test

► Giving another student help on an individual-

ized quiz/test

► Tampering with the teacher's grade records or

tests

► Stealing and/or selling quizzes/tests

► Using teacher manuals

► Using any material from the internet without

proper citation and appropriate credit

► Plagiarism: using others' ideas and words with-

out clearly acknowledging the source of that in-

formation

The classroom teacher in charge is responsible for determining if

cheating has occurred.

ACADEMIC PROBATION

Students who receive more than 2 failing

grades may be placed on academic proba-

tion after the first semester. If a student is

placed on academic probation s/he may be

at risk of failing the year if his/her grades do not

improve.

ATHLETIC ELIGIBILITY

Elementary students have an equal chance to

play on school teams. There is a no-cut policy

for this level.

Middle and High School students who want to

represent New Generation International

Schools on sports teams must meet the follow-

ing eligibility rules:

Students must have a "C" average for semes-

ter grades (2.5 GPA)

Student must have a "2" average for Ethics

Student must not have more than 6 total ab-

sences during the year.

ATTENDANCE POLICY

Absenteeism causes loss of student and teacher

instructional time. To fully benefit from the instruc-

tional program, students are expected to attend

school regularly, be on time for classes, and satis-

fy all course requirements. Poor attendance or

excessive tardiness may result in failing grades. When a student accumulates 9 unexcused ab-

sences during a semester, a parent conference is

required. 18 absences are the maximum amount

per year. If a student exceeds his/her absences

this may result in non-promotion to the next

grade level.

●It is the responsibility of the student's parent/

guardian to explain a student's absence by tele-

phone or letter. Parents are expected to notify

the school the day of the absence. The school

may require additional documentation upon a

student's return.

●The school shall make an effort to contact the

parent or guardian on the day of the absence

whenever a student's absence has not been ex-

plained.

●Records of telephone calls or parent contacts

shall be retained by the school for future refer-

ences.

Prolonged or Planned Absences

At NG, the dates for school vacations and holidays

are shared with parents at the beginning of each

school year, are printed in the school hand-

book and also appear on the Academ-

ic Calendar. We strongly advise parents to plan family vacations within these allocated dates to

ensure that all students achieve academic suc-

cess.

For all planned absences, it is a requirement that

details be submitted in writing to the Main Of-

fice. A minimum of two weeks advanced notice is required to prepare work to be given to the student

for completion during this time. No exceptions to

this requirement will be made.

EXCUSED ABSENCES:

When a student is absent, it is the responsibility of

the student to bring a note from his/her parent/

guardian to the vice principal. The note must in-

clude the following: student name, date(s) of ab-

sence(s), reason for absence and the signature of

the parent or guardian. Pre-excused notes from parents will be accepted only when supported by

a phone call to the Main Office. Students without a

pre-excused note from their parents will not be al-

lowed to leave the school until the end of the

school day.

NOTE: Students should not plan to leave school for

such reasons as medical appointments or early travel

plans. These need to be scheduled out of school hours. Examples of Excused Absences are:

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES

When a student returns to school and has not brought

a note from home, s/he should report immediately to

his/her 1st block class and bring the note the next day.

All absences not handled as defined under "excused

absences" will be marked as "unexcused" to adminis-

trators for consequences, including but not limited to:

detention or suspension. Such absences could be con-

sidered as “sluffs.” Forgeries will also result in being

marked as a “sluff” and receive administrative conse-

quences. Students who are more than 15 minutes late

to class will be marked as an unexcused absence and

be subject to consequences (e.g. In-School Suspen-

sion, work not accepted, work not allowed to be

made up for credit, etc.)

A death in the immediate family of the student

An emergency for an acceptable reason to the

vice principal and principal

A pre-planned absence for a personal reason that

is acceptable to the vice principal and principal

An accident resulting in a serious injury.

Serious attendance problems may result in academ-

ic probation and retention for the next academic

year. Examples of unexcused absences:

1- student suspended from school is responsible to

make up any tests or quizzes missed; however,

the student shall receive a grade of "zero" for

test and/or graded work missed.

2- student found truant from school, or any class

period(s) shall receive a grade of "zero" for tests

and/or grade work missed.

3- student who has unexcused absence shall re-

ceive a grade of "zero" for tests and/or graded

work missed.

TARDINESS TO SCHOOL

Tardiness is not acceptable. However, students

who are tardy must check in with the security

and main office. Students who fail to check-in,

shall be considered truant. Disciplinary action

shall be taken.

If a student is tardy to school more than 2 times s/

he will immediately be sent home. Therefore, students are only allowed 2 tardies per semester

Academic Honor List

AWARDS AND STUDENT RECOGNITION

The administration and faculty recognize students

who have distinguished themselves in class work

and activities throughout the year. The purpose

of this recognition is to honor our outstanding stu-

dents.

Grades 4-5 students' academic accomplish-

ments will be recognized on a quarterly basis.

Students will receive a Super Star or Star Certifi-

cate.

Middle School students' academic accomplish-

ments will be recognized on a quarterly basis.

Students will be awarded either certificates of

High Honors or Honors.

High School students' academic accomplish-

ments will be recognized on a semester basis.

GRADUATION AWARDS

New Generation International Schools will recog-

nize students during commencement based up-

on the following standards of achievement:

Valedictorian **

Salutatorian **

Advanced Placement

National Honors Society

The Valedictorian is the graduating senior with

the highest cumulative GPA. The Valedictorian

gives a speech during the commencement cer-

emony.

The Salutatorian is the graduating senior with the

second highest cumulative GPA.

A pin, worn on the graduation gown, indicates

National Honor Society (NHS) membership.

**In order to be eligible, a student must have at-

tended New Generation International Schools

for his/her entire junior and senior years.

GRADUATION FEE

Each graduating senior will have to pay a gradu-

ation fee. The fee is to cover partial cost for:

graduation attire, diploma covers, printing,

AdvancEd diploma stamping, and any other

needed items for graduation.

GRADUATION REHEARSAL

New Generation International Schools views gradua-

tion as a dignified ceremony. All graduating seniors

are required to attend the graduation rehearsal.

Caps and gowns will be issued during rehearsal.

ACTIVITY AWARDS QUALIFICATIONS

At the end of each school year, the faculty at NG

recognizes students who have participated unselfish-

ly. The purpose of this recognition is to acknowledge

students who have distinguished themselves by ex-

celling in class work, citizenship, and activities at New

Generation International Schools.

The Activity Award is offered to students who have

dedicated many extra hours to school service and

participation. This award is based on one year's activ-

ities and is given to sophomore, junior, and senior stu-

dents. In order to receive this one-year award, a stu-

dent must have received strong recommendations

from the sponsors of at least two unrelated activities

to be considered. Good scholarship and citizenship

are additional factors which help determine award

recipients. Students receiving an “F” will be disquali-

fied from this award.

BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES

Students at NG are expected to be good citizens

and conduct themselves appropriately. Students in-

volved in any of the following behaviors will subject

themselves to administrative disciplinary action,

which may include suspension or expulsion from

school and/or parent conference.

1. Excessive absences or tardiness

2. Disruptive, disrespectful, or defiant behavior

3. Graffiti

4. Swearing, teasing, intimidation or threatening be-

haviors

5. Refusal to come to the office when requested by a

staff member

6. False names or running from authority including

any members of law enforcement

7. Smoking/chewing tobacco

8. Possession or use of controlled substance

9. Theft/possession of stolen property

10. Fighting/School Safety Violation

11. Vandalism

12. Inappropriate dress

13. Bullying

14. Insubordination

BEHAVIOR PROBATION

Students who do not follow or respect the

guidelines will be placed on Behavior Proba-

tion. Any student placed on this probation for

at least one semester may be expelled from

the school.

BIRTHDAYS (Elementary School)

Parents should send a note or call the Vice

Principal at least 3 days prior to the child's

birthday. We ask that parents be prompt and

respect class time. Celebrations may ONLY

take place during lunch time. Parents are ex-

pected to provide all necessary items, such as plates, serving utensils, napkins, etc.

Class Counsel/Conseil De Classe

The meeting occurs regularly throughout the

year for a grade level. It includes the teachers,

and an administrative representative (Principal

or Vice Principal). Most of the meeting is taken

up discussing each individual student. Remarks

made at this meeting will be placed in stu-

dent’s report card. If the "COUNSEL" expresses

'concern' over a student's progress, the par-

ents should take immediate action by seeing

the teacher and taking steps to turn the situa-

tion around.

CLUBS AND ORGANIZATIONS

Athletics, Clubs, and school sponsored programs.

School is a place of learning and a location to obtain

skills that will allow for productive lifestyles. In order to fa-

cilitate quality learning experiences at school, students

must attend classes. The administration at NG feels

strongly about this issue and has developed the follow-

ing policy:

In order for students to participate in school activities

(i.e. sports, clubs, and organizations) they must have

good attendance records.

All students may participate, however:

1. Students who miss 3 sessions will be banned from the

activity

2. Students in academic or behavioral jeopardy may

not be allowed to participate in activities.

3. Students interested in participating in any activity shall

submit a signed note by the parent to the VP. Phone

calls regarding activity participation will not be ac-

cepted for the safety of our students.

DRAGON OF THE MONTH

Each month one student from grades 1-12 will be select-

ed from the entire student body for exceptional behav-

ior and good conduct at all times .

DRUGS, ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO

Possession of tobacco, alcohol or drugs is illegal. To-

bacco violators will be issued citations. Violation of

this policy may include, but is not limited to suspen-

sion, probation from activities, law enforcement refer-

ral, and expulsion.

EVACUATION DRILL

NG is required to hold regular fire and security drills to

insure proper evacuation of the building in case of

emergency. Use the exit route designated by the fire

drill card in the room you are in at the time of the

alarm. Students will be instructed when to return to

class. Evacuations may be signaled by the fire alarm,

or bullhorn. Evacuation drills are a serious matter and

should be conducted promptly and in all earnest-

ness.

FAILING POLICY

If a student in grades 1-12 fails 3 subjects then s/he

will be re-examined during the summer.

If a students fails more than 3 subjects then s/he will

not be promoted to the next school year.

A minimum of 50% is required to pass in written se-

mester exams and an average of 60% is required in

the overall final grade per subject.

FIRES AND SAFETY

No person shall be allowed to possess or use flam-

mable materials, matches, candles, cigarette

lighters of any type of open flame in the school

building except when using laboratory or domestic

science equipment and under the immediate su-

pervision and direction of an instructor. Such

items as cigarette lighters, matches, or other

flammables will be confiscated and returned only

to parents. Students may be suspended/expelled

for possession of these items.

HOMEWORK POLICY

In order to meet the needs and educational re-

quirements of students, teachers can and do as-

sign homework. The amount of homework varies

depending on the type of class and the specific

needs of each student in the class. Students can

expect to receive homework assignments on a

regular basis in the following classes: English, histo-

ry, math, and science. Other classes will assign

homework as needed.

INAPPROPRIATE ITEMS AT SCHOOL

Cellular phones, iPods, pagers, beepers, chains or

other electronic devices are not allowed to disturb

the learning environment at school and are pro-

hibited for all students.

Students using such devices during class hours will

have them confiscated and parents will have to

pick them up in the administrative office. The school will not be responsible for any loss of elec-

tronic items. (Students may only use them on the

bus.)

Students should not bring any device or substances

that may be harmful or disruptive. Some examples

are: water guns, fireworks, chemical sprays, balls,

frisbees, laser pens or other similar type toys. In ad-

dition, felt tip pens, magic markers, spray paint and

tips are not allowed. Items brought from home are

the responsibility of the student. NG will not be held

liable for lost or stolen property. Students who bring

any of the above items subject themselves to ad-

ministrative disciplinary action, which may include suspension or expulsion.

LIBRARY

Food and drinks, including water are not permitted

in the library. Students are expected to enter the li-

brary in a quiet and respectful manner. Respect

everyone's right to use the library by keeping the

noise level to a minimum. During class time, students

must have a pass to visit. Students may use the li-

brary during lunch unless told otherwise.

Check Out Policy:

♦ Students may check out two books at a time.

♦ Students may borrow books for two weeks and may

renew them once.

♦ Newspapers and magazines are to remain in the li-

brary.

♦ Text books are to be returned at the end of the

school year on the day of the set exam, student will be

charged if they do not do so.

Students who continue to lose or bring back books late

will be denied the privilege of checking books out.

LOCKERS

The school cannot guarantee the security or assume

responsibility for lost or stolen items. Students are re-

sponsible for keeping their lockers locked at all times.

All students must bring their own lock and key. Lock-

ers are school property and may be opened by school

authorities at any time. Students are permitted to use

lockers as a convenience and courtesy. Money and/or valuables should never be left in student lockers.

Lockers are school property and thus students will be

held accountable for any damage to the locker

(examples of damage : punched into, written on with

markers, etc.)

LOST/DAMAGED BOOKS

If a student damages or loses a book then the stu-

dent's report card will be withheld until payment for

the book(s) is paid for in full. (This will include the book

cost and the shipping)

REPORT CARDS / MIDTERMS

At the end of quarters 1, 2, and 3, report cards will be

given to students to take home. The fourth quarter re-

port card is picked up. Students receive a midterm

progress report at school each quarter. If a student

has lost his/her report card at the end of the year and

needs another copy then the student will be charged for each extra copy.

SCHOOL SAFETY POLICY

All students have the right to attend school and

school sponsored activities without undue concern for

their safety. Any student acts of violence, stalking,

fighting, and physical assaults or threats, possession of

a weapon or facsimile, criminal behavior, destruction

or defacement of school property, willful disobedi-

ence or persistent defiance of authority will be dealt

with. Possessions of these items will be confiscated

and returned only to parents. Violators may subject

themselves to one or more of the following:

1) Mandatory parent/guardian conference with

school

2) Suspension from school

3) Expulsion

TRANSPORTATION AND REGULATIONS

NG offers bus transportation for students whose parents'

contract for these services. Within certain re-

strictions, buses offer travel from door to door.

Students who have not paid for the service are not eligi-

ble to ride the bus.

Students are responsible for following and obeying the

bus rules and regulations. In the event a student violates

the established rules, s/he is subject to disciplinary ac-

tion. In more severe cases, a student may be suspend-

ed from riding the bus temporarily. If the behavior con-

tinues, the expulsion from riding the bus will be perma-

nent.

If the bus driver is distracted by a student's behavior, he

cannot pay strict attention to his driving and the road

conditions. This poses a safety issue for all students. Bus

rules also apply for field trips as well as for daily transpor-

tation. Please note that buses leave on time and one

minute is considered tardy. There is a ONE minute wait time at the student's stop. If a student is not at his/her

stop on the regulated time then the bus will leave. Buses

will not return back to pick up a student. All students

must ride their designated bus only.

The following rules must be followed.

No student is allowed to go home on any other bus ex-

cept their own designated bus.

If a child will go home by car instead of bus, the

Vice Principal and the MAIN office must be in-

formed before 1 pm by a parental signed note or

a parental phone call. If the above is not fol-

lowed, the student will go home by bus.

If any stakeholder breaks any school bus rule then

the child will be prohibited from riding the school

bus until the end of the school year and bus

transportation fees will not be refundable.

Informing the matron or the bus driver of any trans-

portation changes will not be accepted or taken

into consideration.

Students must keep the bus clean at all times. All

items not needed should be kept in their bag or

thrown in the basket.

Students may use their Ipods or cell phones on the

bus rides to and from school only.

Students are not allowed to damage the bus. Stu-

dents causing damage to the bus will pay the

necessary fine and will be suspended from riding

the bus. (The suspension time will be determined

according to what the administration sees fit)

Buses will leave on the designated departure time.

Buses will not wait for any student. If a student misses

his/her bus, then it is the responsibility of the student

to call his/her parent or guardian to inform them that

they have missed the bus. (Please check NG disci-

pline guide for detailed information.)

UNIFORM POLICY

All NG students are expected to be properly

groomed for school and to wear the school uniform

daily unless otherwise announced. On non-uniform

days or at after-school functions, clothing worn to

school should be in keeping with the academic envi-

ronment of the school.

Uniforms can be purchased from the school store.

The School Dress Code stipulates: All students must

be in school uniform at all times.

Shoes must be worn at all times. Crocs, sandals, flip

flops, open toes, heels, etc are not considered

appropriate shoes.

Hats, hoodies, caps are not to be worn in the

school.

Halter-tops, spaghetti straps, and tops, which ex-

pose the midriff or cleavage, are not permitted.

Clothing depicting, through words or visualization,

disrespect towards any race, culture, religion, or

gender, cannot be worn at school or at any

school sponsored activity.

Any clothing that forms an allegiance and/or

encourages criminal, violent, or antisocial be-

havior

Make up, nail polish or dangly jewelry are not per-

mitted.

Guidelines

● All students must wear the official school uniform

(blue polo with a white collar and the NG logo em-

bossed on the left.)

● No jeans, or sports pants or cover-ups are permitted.

Jeans jackets are not accepted as an outer cover up

at any time.

● The cover up used for cold weather will be the regu-

lar school outerwear which is available at the school

store. No other cover-up may be worn as part of the

uniform.

● Students are allowed to wear their PE uniform to

school on days when they are participating in PE clas-

ses.

Code of Conduct

Students who are not dressed according to the

School Dress Code will be in in-school suspension with

the day counting as an absence.

lines)

Principal.

Level Two: In-School Suspension (ISS) &

letter sent to parents.

Level Three: Out-of-School Suspension

(OSS) and Parent Conference.

Skipping Class

Level One: ISS with written warning by

VP.

Level Two: 2-day OSS and with a 2nd

written warning.

Level Three: 3-5 days OSS, 3rd written

warning and Parent Conference.

Success is greatly enhanced by good organiza-

tion. The Planner is your portable organizer; be

sure to use it to help you keep up-to-date in all

areas of life at NG. Be sure to use and check

your Planner daily and you will always be pre-

pared. It should keep you organized and on

top of your homework, assignments and ap-

pointments. Enter assignments, estimated

homework time and check when completed.
