STUDENT INSTRUCTIONS Do you have an idea for a new business, product or service, or ideas to

transition a current business, product or service? Here is an opportunity to pitch your idea, get recognized at Innovate 2020 and refine your business

idea to prepare for future DECA competition. Entries can be teams of 1-3

students. Top 6 teams will receive recognition during closing session of the Innovate 2020 conference, and medals for each team member. Students

must be registered for the conference to participate.

THE INNOVATION PITCH COMPETITION – BEGINNING TO END

1. Begin brainstorming a business, product or service idea.

2. Open the Innovation Pitch Google Folder. Everything you need to complete the challenge can be found here.

3. Read and understand the scoring criteria on the rubric in the Google folder.

4. Finalize business, product, or service idea.

5. Complete the Lean Canvas (in Google folder) and save as a PDF file.

6. Practice your pitch with friends and teachers before recording a 6-8 minute video pitch of your business, product or service. Be sure to dress in DECA professional attire for your video.

7. Open a free YouTube or Vimeo account and upload your video.

8. Submit your video and Lean Canvas by November 6 at 5:00 p.m. PST. Find the submission form in the Innovation Pitch Google Folder.

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL PROJECT

☐ Judges will be looking for creative services/products/businesses that:

➢ Are relevant and would succeed in the current economic environment.

➢ Shows how the business/product/service will address a problem.

➢ Shows how, within a reasonable time, the business will pay for itself and become profitable or will have the ability to reinvest in the business.

☐ Awards will be announced during closing session on November 13.

☐ The top 6 teams will receive the following recognition:

➢ Announcement during Closing Session of Innovate 2020: WRLC.

➢ Medals (mailed to your advisor following the conference).

➢ Announcement on social media.

➢ Announcement on www.wadeca.org.
