25th July 2013 Welcome to our new students Welcome to our lovely new students and their families – all 15 of them! Our school is becoming a very popular place to be, and I am confident that this growth will continue based on the outstanding results our students have shown over recent years. I congratulate the staff on the leadership and dedication they have shown to take our school to new heights. Athletics Carnival Last Monday was a perfect example of dedication from our staff, students and community, as they bore the brunt of icy winds and sunshine to hold our annual Athletics Carnival. Several staff members were at the park as daylight began to set up all the events for the children. A huge thank you to that group of teachers - we appreciate your efforts. The day was a wonderful event, and that is due to the organisation of members of our school sports committee, who spent endless hours preparing lists, diagrams and equipment, to make sure the day ran well. Once again we thank you for all that you prepared. The last thank you goes to the parents who showed their support by turning up and supporting the staff and the students wherever help was needed. Without you, some of our planned events would not have taken place. Edensor Park Public School is a strong and supportive community, of people who are here to make a difference to the students, and I am very proud to be part of that community. University of NSW Academic Competitions Congratulations to our students who participated in the University of NSW Academic Competitions. We had some outstanding results – particularly Stella (4D), Chloe (3R) and Alex (4/5H). These students received certificates of Credit and Distinction from the University, which recognised they were in the top 6 to 25% of students in their grades in NSW and ACT. Well done! Education Week Next week is a very exciting week in all Public Schools. It is Education Week! This is a week for our students to celebrate the wonderful things they do at school, and have a chance to ‘shine’ for their parents and community. We look forward to many of you joining us for the events that are outlined in the small booklet brought home by your child. The events range from Assemblies, Open classrooms, Multicultural travel and picnic lunches. Please try and find some time to visit next week, as we also have a wonderful Book Fair in the library, where the children can buy good quality books at very reasonable prices. K de Falco Principal

On Friday the 19th July, three very excited Kindergarten classes set off on their first excursion.

K Red, K Blue and K Yellow spent a lovely day at Taronga Park Zoo looking at different animals and learning about animals that we might find in our backyards.

We saw giraffes eating leaves, elephants having a swim and we even saw monkeys kissing! Kindergarten got to pat a blue tongue lizard and a cute little possum.

We were all very tired by the end of the day. The bus trip home was much quieter than on the way there as some students had a little nap. Kindergarten really enjoyed their first excursion!

On Wednesday, Kindergarten Red turned into cute little gummy bears and danced their little hearts out at assembly.

They had some great moves! Ms Cox was very proud of her gummy bears.

Mrs Curcio’s

Maths Wrap Up

Year 2 had a great time learning about Volume & Capacity in the

courtyard this week. They were using a unit (1 Litre or 2 Litre) of

their choice to measure the capacity of a tote tray or bucket.

The students chose to measure with rice, sand or water.

There was a recorder in each group who counted the units going in.

Year 2 discovered that the bucket could be filled 10 times with a

2 Litre unit and 20 times with a 1 Litre unit.

These were some of their findings :

Divya– ‘The bigger the unit, the less you need’.

Korn—’The bigger the unit the less I poured,

the smaller the unit the more I poured’.
