AMENDMENTSA. AnamendmenttothisconstitutionmustbepresentedtotheExecutive

Councilandbediscussedinthestudentsenateandapprovedbythree-fourthsofthisbody,andthenmustberatifiedbythestudentbodybysecretballot.

B. Asimplemajorityvoteofstudentswhohavevotedonthedesignateddayshallberequiredbeforeanamendmentshallbemadepartoftheconstitution.

C. Eachproposedamendmentshallbeannouncedatleastoneweekprevioustovotingonsuchamendments.

D. AnamendmentmaybeproposedeitherbytheExecutiveCounciloramemberofthestudentsenate.

ELECTIONANDSELECTIONPROCEDURES

ExecutiveCouncilA. AllcampaigningisdoneunderthedirectionoftheExecutiveCouncil.Votes

fora"write-in"candidatewillnotbecounted.B. Studentsmustgothroughboththeprimaryandfinalelectionsbeforebeing

elected,unlesshe/sheisunopposed.C. Rulesandregulationsmaybeobtainedinthestudentbodyofficeforall

candidates.D. Allelectedofficersoftheexecutivecouncilshallbeelectedbysecretballotin

ATTENDANCEPOLICYStudentattendanceisgovernedbyStatelawsandbyDistrictandSchoolpolicies.Statelawsandeducationpoliciesrequirethatstudentsattendschool.Followingarethebasicattendancepolicyrequirements.

A. Therearethreeclassesofabsences:a. Verified(thoseclearedbyaparentcontactwiththeattendanceoffice)b. Unverified(thosenotclearedbyaparent)c. SchoolExcused(thoseabsencesduetoastudent'sinvolvementina

schoolactivity)B. Attendancebeginsthefirstdayofthetrimester,andifastudenttransfers

fromaclass,theattendanceinthepreviousclassfollowsthestudentintothenewclass.Duringclasstime,studentsareexpectedtobeinclass.Studentsarenotallowedtobeintheschoolbuildingiftheyarenotenrolledinaclass.Violatorsmaybecitedfortrespassandreferredtothecourts.

C. Aparent/legalguardianwillhavefive(5)schooldaystoverify(reportthecause)ofanyabsences.Afterthattheabsenceswillremainunverifiedandmaybemarkedasatruant.After5daysaparent/guardiancannotchangethestudent’sattendance.Thiscanbeappealedthroughanadministrator.

D. Familyvacationswillbeacceptedonlyastheyarepre-approved,notafterthefact.Approvaloffamilyvacationrequestswillbecontingentuponprevioushistoryofgoodattendance.Pre-approvedvacationdaysaretreatedasverifiedabsences,andthestudentisfullyresponsibleforallcourseworkmissed.Pre-approvedvacationdayswillnotaffectastudent’seligibilitytoparticipateinextracurricularactivities.Torequestapre-approvedabsence,studentsmustsubmitaRequestforPre-ApprovedAbsenceformtotheoffice,signedbytheirteachersandanadministrator.

Ridgeline High School uses state law as its attendance policy. Below is the attendance policy as outlined Utah law: Index Utah Code Title 53G Public Education System -- Local Administration Chapter 6 Participation in Public Schools Part 2 Compulsory Education Effective 5/8/2018 53G-6-201. Definitions.

For purposes of this part: (1) (a) "Absence" or "absent" means, consistent with Subsection (1)(b), failure of a school-age minor assigned to a class or class period to attend the entire class or class period.

(b) A school-age minor may not be considered absent under this part more than one time during one day. (2) "Habitual truant" means a school-age minor who:

(a) is at least 12 years old; (b) is subject to the requirements of Section 53G-6-202; and (c)

(i) is truant at least 10 times during one school year; or (ii) fails to cooperate with efforts on the part of school authorities to

resolve the minor's attendance problem as required under Section 53G-6-206. (3) "Minor" means a person under the age of 18 years. (4) "Parent" includes:

(a) a custodial parent of the minor; (b) a legally appointed guardian of a minor; or (c) any other person purporting to exercise any authority over the minor

which could be exercised by a person described in Subsection (4)(a) or (b). (5) "School-age minor" means a minor who:

(a) is at least six years old, but younger than 18 years old; and (b) is not emancipated.

(6) "School year" means the period of time designated by a local school board or local charter board as the school year for the school where the school-age minor:

(a) is enrolled; or (b) should be enrolled, if the school-age minor is not enrolled in school.

(7) "Truant" means absent without a valid excuse. (8) "Truant minor" means a school-age minor who:

(a) is subject to the requirements of Section 53G-6-202 or 53G-6-203; and (b) is truant.

(9) "Valid excuse" means: (a) an illness, which may be either mental or physical; (b) a family death; (c) an approved school activity; (d) an absence permitted by a school-age minor's:

(i) individualized education program, developed pursuant to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004, as amended; or

(ii) accommodation plan, developed pursuant to Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended; or

(e) any other excuse established as valid by a local school board, local charter board, or school district.

Effective 1/24/2018 53G-6-203. Truancy -- Notice of truancy -- Failure to cooperate with school authorities. (1) Except as provided in Section 53G-6-204 or 53G-6-702, a school-age minor who is enrolled in a public school shall attend the public school in which the school-age minor is enrolled. (2) A local school board, charter school governing board, or school district may impose administrative penalties on a school-age minor in accordance with Section 53G-8-211 who is truant. (3) A local school board or charter school governing board:

(a) may authorize a school administrator, a designee of a school administrator, a law enforcement officer acting as a school resource officer, or a truancy specialist to issue notices of truancy to school-age minors who are at least 12 years old; and

(b) shall establish a procedure for a school-age minor, or the school-age minor's parents, to contest a notice of truancy. (4) The notice of truancy described in Subsection (3):

(a) may not be issued until the school-age minor has been truant at least five times during the school year;

(b) may not be issued to a school-age minor who is less than 12 years old; (c) may not be issued to a minor exempt from school attendance as provided

in Section 53G-6-204 or 53G-6-702; (d) shall direct the school-age minor and the parent of the school-age minor

to: (i) meet with school authorities to discuss the school-age minor's

truancies; and (ii) cooperate with the school board, local charter board, or school

district in securing regular attendance by the school-age minor; and (e) shall be mailed to, or served on, the school-age minor's parent.

(5) Nothing in this part prohibits a local school board, charter school governing board, or school district from taking action to resolve a truancy problem with a school-age minor who has been truant less than five times, provided that the action does not conflict with the requirements of this part. Effective 1/24/2018 53G-6-205. Preapproval of extended absence. In determining whether to preapprove an extended absence of a school-age minor as a valid excuse under Subsection 53G-6-201(9)(e), a local school board, local charter board, or school district shall approve the absence if the local school board, local charter board, or school district determines that the extended absence will not adversely impact the school-age minor's education.

Effective 1/24/2018 53G-6-206. Duties of a school board, local charter board, or school district in resolving attendance problems -- Parental involvement -- Liability not imposed. (1) (a) Except as provided in Subsection (1)(b), a local school board, local charter board, or school district shall make efforts to resolve the school attendance problems of each school-age minor who is, or should be, enrolled in the school district.

(b) A minor exempt from school attendance under Section 53G-6-204 or 53G-6-702 is not considered to be a minor who is or should be enrolled in a school district or charter school under Subsection (1)(a). (2) The efforts described in Subsection (1) shall include, as reasonably feasible:

(a) counseling of the minor by school authorities; (b) issuing a notice of truancy to a school-age minor who is at least 12 years

old, in accordance with Section 53G-6-203; (c) issuing a notice of compulsory education violation to a parent of a school-

age child, in accordance with Section 53G-6-202; (d) making any necessary adjustment to the curriculum and schedule to meet

special needs of the minor; (e) considering alternatives proposed by a parent; (f) monitoring school attendance of the minor; (g) voluntary participation in truancy mediation, if available; and (h) providing a school-age minor's parent, upon request, with a list of

resources available to assist the parent in resolving the school-age minor's attendance problems. (3) In addition to the efforts described in Subsection (2), the local school board, local charter board, or school district may enlist the assistance of community and law enforcement agencies as appropriate and reasonably feasible in accordance with Section 53G-8-211. (4) This section does not impose civil liability on boards of education, local school boards, local charter boards, school districts, or their employees. (5) Proceedings initiated under this part do not obligate or preclude action by the Division of Child and Family Services under Section 78A-6-319.

MAKE-UPWORKDURINGABSENCESA. Makingupworkmissedduringanabsenceistheresponsibilityofthe

student.B. Make-upworkwillbeallowedonlyforschoolexcusedandverified

absences.

OPENCAMPUSAnopencampusmeansthatoncestudentsarriveoncampus,theymaynotleavetheschoolgroundswithoutparentalpermission,exceptfortheirlunch-time.Ifitisnecessaryforastudenttoleaveschool,aparentorlegalguardianmustcontacttheofficetocheckthestudentout.Ifastudentleavescampus,theybecometheresponsibilityoftheparent/guardian.Astudentwholeavescampuswithoutpermissionwillberecordedastruant.

POLICYONREMOVINGMINORS16YEARSOLDANDOLDERFROMSCHOOLUtahStateLaw53G-6-204statesthatminorsmaybeexemptfromschoolattendanceforthefollowingreason:1(D) thedistrictsuperintendentorcharterschoolgoverningboardhasdeterminedthataschool-ageminorovertheageof16isunabletoprofitfromattendanceatschoolbecauseofinabilityoracontinuingnegativeattitudetowardschoolregulationsanddiscipline.

POLICYON18YEAR-OLDSENIORSA. Seniorswhoare18yearsoldareunderthesameattendanceandbehaviorpoliciesasallotherstudents.B. Seniorwhoare18yearoldandchoosenottofollowschoolpoliciesmayberemovedfromtheschoolregardlessofwhethertheyhavemetgraduationrequirements.

BEHAVIORANDDISCIPLINEPOLICYA. Socialinteractionisanimportantpartofhighschoolexperience,andourgoalis

toprovideasafeandpleasantplacetoattendschool.B. Suspensionorexpulsionismandatoryforthefollowingviolations:

a. Anyseriousviolationaffectinganotherstudentorastaffmember,oroccurringinaschoolbuilding,inoronschoolproperty,orinconjunctionwithanyschoolactivity,includingthepossession,control,oractualorthreateneduseofareal,look-alike,orpretendweapon,explosive,ornoxiousorflammablematerialunder52A-3-502oftheUtahCode,orthesale,control,ordistributionofadrugorcontrolledsubstanceasdefinedin58-37-2oftheUtahCode,animitationcontrolledsubstanceasdefinedin58-37b-2oftheUtahCode,ordrugparaphernaliaasdefinedin58-37a-3oftheUtahCode.NOTE:Schoolpropertyincludesparkinglotsandplayingfields.

b. Thecommissionofanactinvolvingtheuseofforceorthethreateneduseofforce.

C. SuspensionsorexpulsionsfromotherschoolsorschooldistrictswillbehonoredatRidgelineHighSchool.Astudentmaybedeniedadmissiontoapublicschoolonthebasisofhavingbeenexpelledfromthatoranyotherschoolduringthepreceding12months.

D. Inadditiontotheaboveconsequences,RidgelineHighSchoolandtheCacheCountySchoolBoardidentifythefollowingstudentbehaviorsasinappropriateandsubjecttoschooldiscipline,whichmayincludein-schoolorout-of-schoolsuspensions:

a. Insubordination-Involvesmisconductsubversivetothedisciplineoftheschooland/orthedisplayofgrossdisrespectorcontemptforschoolpersonnel.

b. Useofvulgarorprofanelanguage-Useofobscene,vulgar,orindecentlanguage,eitherspoken,writtenorelectronicallydisseminatedonschoolpropertyorataschoolactivity.

c. Possessionofobsceneliterature-Thepossessionand/orthedisseminationofobscenepictures,literature,orpublicationsoncampus,includingelectronicaswellasprintedmaterialsandstudentcomposedmaterialsaswellasthosecommerciallyacquired.

d. Possession,sale,oruseofcontrolledsubstances-Possession,sale,oruseofanycontrolledsubstance(e-cigarettes,vapingproducts,tobacco,drugs,andalcohol)ordrugparaphernalia.

e. Violentbehavior-Potentialoractualviolentbehaviorincludingfights,assaultstowardstudentsorstaff,and/orintimidatingthreatsofviolentbehaviortowardstudentsorstaff.

f. Disturbanceoftheschoolenvironment-Behaviorsorclothingwhichdisruptorimpedetheeducationprocess.

g. Defaultineducationalrequirements-FailuretomaintainasatisfactorylevelofscholasticattainmentasdefinedbythePlanforCollegeandCareerReadiness.

h. DisruptingtheOperationofaSchool-Loitering,trespass,extortion,criminalmischief/vandalism,burglary/theft,orrape,orotherbehaviordisruptivetotheeducationalprocess,regardlessofwhethercriminallyconvicted.

TRESPASSINGStudentswhodonothaveaclassmaynotbeoncampusduringschoolhours,andiftheyarefoundtobeoncampus,theywillbeconsideredtrespassing.Studentsthathavebeensuspendedfromschoolwillbeconsideredtrespassingiftheycomeoncampusanytimewhilesuspended.

GENERALINFORMATION

ACTIVITIESIfaclubororganizationwishestosponsoranactivity(dance,etc.),thesponsoringorganizationmustreceivepermissionfromtheadministrationandExecutiveCouncil.

Cellular devices have become an important communication tool in our society. The Cache County School Board recognizes the value of these devices but also understands if used inappropriately, they can disrupt the learning environment. As such, the school board seeks to adopt a policy of acceptable use of cellular devices at school while also creating reasonable expectations for limits. Use of a cellular device falls under the following guidelines: III. Secondary Schools 7-12 A. Cellular devices must be on silent while on campus and remain on silent throughout the school day. B. Cell phones are to be put away during class time unless authorized by a teacher. Teachers have the authority to allow or ban cellular device use during their respective class times. Students should never be disadvantaged or penalized in classroom settings for not having access to a cell phone. C. Considerable leniency for cellular device use will be allowed in emergency situations. However, cellular device use should not interfere with the students' ability to follow directions or adhere to safety advisement from school personnel. D. Wearable cellular devices may be worn as long as they do not create a distraction or a disruption during school hours. E. Cellular cameras and audio recorders may only be used for specific educational benefits and only with prior permission of the teacher or administrator. F. Students who choose to bring cellular devices to school do so at their own risk. The school district assumes NO LIABILITY for lost, stolen, or damaged devices. IV. Disciplinary Measures A. Failure to adhere to the guidelines above may result in disciplinary measures such as: 1. Verbal warning. Student may be asked to turn off their device in the presence of the teacher and may be allowed to put it away. 2. Device may be taken away until the end of the day (to be picked up by student). Offense may be logged in PowerSchool.

3. Device may be taken away from the student and must be picked up by the student’s parents during school hours or after school, after consultation with a school administrator. Offense may be logged in PowerSchool. 4. Student may lose the privilege to use device on district property. Offense may be logged in PowerSchool. V. Use of Cellular Devices on Buses or During School Activities A. Cellular device usage by students while riding to and from school on the bus, or on the bus during school-sponsored activities is at the discretion of the bus driver and/or the student advisor/supervisor. B. Distracting behavior which creates an unsafe environment will not be tolerated. C. Cellular cameras and audio recorders may not be used on the bus. D. The District Appropriate Use Policy applies to use on buses or during school activities. VI. Privacy in Bathrooms, Locker Rooms and/or Dressing Areas A. Individuals who use school district bathrooms, locker rooms and/or dressing areas have a right to a safe environment, which includes a reasonable assurance that the District will not tolerate the use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone, in changing areas, rest rooms or locker rooms.to record or transfer images or recordings from these areas. In order to ensure that the privacy of all individuals is protected, the District has adopted these regulations to ensure that this right of privacy is not violated. B. When the District has reason to believe that any person has violated this prohibition regarding the transmission of pictures of persons from the bathroom, locker room and/or dressing area, or has, in any other way, violated the right of privacy within these areas, the building principal shall contact local law enforcement representatives and make the appropriate reports. C. Any person violating this policy may be subject to prosecution and face suspension and/or recommendation for expulsion.

D. School officials have the right to confiscate any cellular or recording device if there is a reasonable suspicion that the cellular or recording device has been used in violation of this policy. School administrators may search the contents of that device to ensure that images have not been taken or transmitted from within the locker room and/or dressing area.

V.UseofDistrictOwnedDevicesA.Theschooldistrictprovidesavarietyofdevicestobothstudentsandstafftofacilitateteachingandlearningandtohelpemployeestoconductthebusinessofthedistrict.Manyofthesedevicesaremobilethatallowstaffflexibilityandmovementoftheassetsinordertoaccomplishtheirwork.B.Thereisanexpectationthatmobiledeviceswillbeusedprimarilyforpurposesrelatedtothebusinessofthedistrict.However,thereisalsoanunderstandingthatthesedevicescanbeimportanttobothpersonalandbusinessproductivity.Forexample,employeesmaykeepcalendaritemsforbothpersonalandbusinesspurposes,ortodolistsforbothpersonalorbusinessuse.Thisisappropriateandexpected.Agoodruletofollowisthatalldistrictowneddevicesshouldbeusedprimarilyforbusinesspurposes.C.DistrictownedmobiledevicesshouldbetaggedinaccordancewiththeBusinessOffice’sinventoryandtrackingprocedures.Duringassetaudits,thesedevicesshouldbeavailableforinspectiontoensuretheyaretaggedandtrackedproperly.Schoolinventoriesshouldindicatetheprimarylocationofthedeviceandpersonresponsibleforthedevice.

COUNSELINGSERVICESIndividualandgroupcollegeandcareerguidancecounselingservicesareprovided.Schoolcounselorshaveaccesstostudentfiles,whichcontainacompleterecordofgrades,tests,activitiesandinterviewsfrompastschoolyears.Eachcounselorisassignedaparticulargroupofstudents.Studentsshouldsignupforacounselorconferenceinthecounselingoffice.Studentswillbeseenintheorderoftheirsigningup.

CREDITTheschooldayisdividedintoafiveperiodscheduleandaFlexPeriod.One-half(1/2)unitofcreditwillbeawardedforthesuccessfulcompletionofeachtwelveweek,fullperiodclass.

DANCESDancesaredesignedtoprovideanenjoyableandsafeatmosphereforstudents.Tohelpprotectthesafetyofallwhoattendourdances,pleasenotethatthereisno"moshing,"slamdancing,"freakorgrind"dancing,noranyotherbehavior(danceorotherwise)thatisconsideredinappropriateorunsafebyschoolpersonnel.Shouldstudentsengageinsuchdanceorbehavior,theyaresubjectto:(1)removalfromthedance,or(2)suspensionfromalldancesfortherestoftheyear,or(3)parentconference,or(4)suspensionfromschool,oracombinationofanyoralloftheseactionsdependingontheseverityofthebehavior.Schooldancesendpromptlyat11:00p.m.

DRESSCODEPurpose:Thecourts,state,andfederallaws,aswellasCacheCountySchoolDistrict,requireanatmosphereatschool,whichprovidesforasafe,orderly,anddistraction-freelearningenvironment.Thefollowingdresscodepolicyhasbeendesignedtosupportsuchanenvironment.Thereappearstobeacloserelationshipbetweengooddressandgroominghabits,goodworkandstudyhabits,andproperschoolbehavior.Ifclothing,hairstyle,orpersonaladornmentiscausingadisruptioninschooloratanyschoolfunction,appropriatedisciplinaryactionwillbetaken.Disruptionisdefinedas,butnotlimitedto,reactionsbyotherindividualstotheclothingoradornment,whichcausestheteacher/administratortolosetheattentionofthestudents,tomodifyorceaseinstructionalactivities,ortodealwithstudentconfrontationsorcomplaints.Responsibilities:Adherencetodressandgroomingstandardsistheresponsibilityofthestudentandhis/herparents/guardians.Enforcementoftheschool’sdresscodeandstandardsistheresponsibilityoftheschooladministration,faculty,andstaff.Studentsthatdonotcomplywithateacher’srequestwillbereferredtotheschooladministrationforcorrectiveaction.Consequencesfortheviolationofthedresscodearelistedineachschool’sstudenthandbook.Anyitemwhichviolatesthedresscodemaybeconfiscatedandnotreturnedtothestudentorparentatthediscretionoftheschooladministrationorlawenforcement.Allschoolsareexpectedtoenforcethefollowingguidelines.IndividualschoolsmayaddtothispolicywithSchoolBoardapproval.Itisrecognizedthatactivitiesmayarisethatcallforvariations;therefore,exceptionstothispolicymaybemadeforspecialoccasionsonlywhensodesignatedbytheschooladministration.Consequences:Studentswhochoosenottocomplywiththestaffmember’srequestwillbereportedtotheschool’sadministration.Whenadresscodeviolationoccurs,thestudentwillberequiredtochangeclothing(turnclothingarticleinsideoutorcallhomeforachangeofclothesorwearaschool-designatedarticleofclothingloanedbytheschool—allofwhichisdeterminedbytheschooladministration).

EIGHTEENYEAROLDSTUDENTSAllstudentsattendingtheregularhighschool,regardlessofage,aresubjecttothesamerules.An18yearoldis,therefore,requiredtohavethesameparentpermissionandthesameparentinvolvement,asayoungerstudentrequires.An18yearoldwhodoesnotwishtoconformtothisrulingandwhowishestobetreatedasanadultshouldenrollintheadulthighschoolprogram.

EQUALEDUCATIONALANDEMPLOYMENTOPPORTUNITYItisthepolicyoftheCacheCountySchoolDistricttoprovideequaleducationalandemploymentopportunityforallindividuals.Therefore,theDistrictprohibitsalldiscriminationonthebasisofrace,color,religion,sex,age,nationalorigin,disability,orveteranstatus.ThispolicyextendstoallaspectsoftheDistrict’seducationalprograms,aswellastotheuseofallDistrictfacilities,andparticipationinallDistrict-sponsoredactivities.

A. Generally,astudentmaytakeaparticularclassonlyonceduringtheregularschoolprogram.Shouldastudentfailaclass,he/shemayberequiredtoretakethatclassthroughAdultEducationcourses,whichrequirepaymentofatuitionfeeandwhichareheldaftertheregularschoolday.Thestudentmayalsotakeanon-linecourse.Tuitionfeesforcreditrecoveryaretheresponsibilityofthestudent.

B. IntheeventastudentfailsDriver'sEducation,thestudentwillonlybeallowedtoenrollinamake-up,SummerDriver'sEducationprogram,againofferedatafee.

C. IntheeventastudentfailsaBridgerlandTechnicalCollege(BTECH)programandisdroppedfromtheprogramduringatrimester,thestudentwillnotbeallowedtoregisterintoaRidgelineclassuntiltheendofthetrimester.

D. IntheeventastudentfailsorisremovedfromReleasedTimeduringatrimester,thestudentwillnotbeallowedtoregisterintoaRHSclassuntiltheendofthetrimester.

E. Intheinstanceofchronicfailure,ordefaultinmeetingeducationalrequirements,astudentmaybereferredtoSuperintendentandBoardofEducationforremovalfromschool.

FEESFeesforactivities,participationtorunforanofficeorbeonateam,books,AdvancedPlacement(AP)tests,etc.arerequiredtobepaidbeforethestudentisallowedtoparticipate.Ifstudentfeesarestillunpaidbythetimethestudentis

readytograduate,thestudentwillnotbeallowedtoparticipateinthegraduationceremony.

FERPAUnderthefederalFamilyEducationalRightsandPrivacyAct(FERPA),parentsmayannuallyreviewstudentrecords.Parentswishingtoreviewtheirson/daughter'srecordsshouldcontacttheschoolforanappointment.Inatimelymanner,theschoolwillrespondtosuchrequestswithin45daysofthenotification.Parentsoreligiblestudents(those18yearsofage)mayasktheschooltoamendtherecordstheybelieveareinaccurateormisleading.Theirrequestmustbeinwriting,totheprincipal,andstatewhatpartoftherecordisinaccurateandwhyandwhattheywantchanged.Iftheschooldecidesnottoamendtherecordasrequested,theDistrictwillnotifytheparentoreligiblestudentandadvisethemoftheirrighttoahearingregardingtheirrequestforachange.Parents/guardians/eligiblestudentshavetherighttoconsenttodisclosuresofpersonallyidentifiableinformationcontainedinstudentrecordsexceptasprovidedbyFERPA.Disclosurewithoutconsentisallowedtoschoolofficialswithlegitimateeducationalinterests.Aschoolofficialhasalegitimateeducationalinterestifthatofficialneedstoreviewaneducationalrecordinordertofulfillhis/herprofessionalresponsibility.

FIREALARMSFirealarmstationsanddevicessafeguardstudentsandtheschool.Falsefirealarmsareillegal,andanyonewhotriggersafirealarmfalselyissubjecttoprosecutionandarrestandmaybechargedwithacrime.Thesignalforafiredrillisacontinuoussoundingoftheemergencyalarm.Whenthefirealarmsounds,studentsaretoexitthebuildingimmediatelyaccordingtotheexitplanpostedineachroom.Studentsaretogatherintheparkinglotsoutsidethebuilding.AnallclearPAannouncementwillsignalwhenitissafetore-enterthebuilding.

FLEXTheFlexprogramisdesignedtoallowstudentstimewithintheschooldaytogetextrahelpfromteachers,haveextratimetoworkonschoolassignments,participateinenrichmentactivities,and/orearncredit.Thisclassissandwichedbetweenfirstandsecondhours.

EachFLEXclassissixweekslong,withtwosessionspertrimester.Studentsshouldpreregisterfortheclassestheyneedorwantfromtheschoolwebsiteatannouncedtimes.StudentswhofailtoregisterthemselveswillbeassignedaFLEXclass.Studentsbelowa2.0GPAmustregisterforthestudyhallclassthatwillbeofthemostbenefittothem.BecausestudentschoosetheirownFLEXclass,theyareexpectedtoattendthatclassregularly.Onoccasionwhenastudentneedshelpfromoneofhis/herotherteachers,thestudentneedstoobtainaFLEXpassfromthatteacherpriortotheFLEXhour.AllstudentsmustgototheirassignedFLEXclassforrollcallandtolistentoannouncements,andtheniftheyneedtomovetoanotherclass,theycanatthattime.StudentsmustpresenttheFLEXpasstotheirteacherforapprovalbeforemovingtoanotherclass.AllFLEXclassesotherthanthosetakenforcreditarepass/failclasses.Topass,studentsmustmeettheteacher’sattendanceandparticipationrequirement.Thismeansstudentsneedtoattend,beontimeandbeproductiveinclass.StudentswhofailaFLEXclassjeopardizetheiropportunityto“walk”atgraduation.Toearnback“walking”privileges,afterfailingaFLEXclassstudentsmustappearinPeerCourttodeterminethemakeuprequirements.ItistheexpectationoftheRidgelinefacultyandadministrationthatstudentswilltakefullopportunityoftheFLEXprogramtoenhancestudentlearning.

GRADUATIONCEREMONIESParticipationatgraduationisaprivilegeandnotaright.Itisanimportantanddignifiedrecognitionofaccomplishing13yearsofeducation.Itisnota“party”or“game-type”atmosphere.Beachballs,inflatabletoys,airhorns,noisemakers,sillystring,oranyotherdevicesthatwilldisruptorbedisrespectfultoparticipantsofthisdignifiedeventarenottobebroughttograduationceremoniesbyeitherthegraduatesoranyoneintheaudience.TheCacheCountySchoolDistrictBoardofEducationwillawarddiplomasatthegraduationceremonytostudentswhoareingoodstandingattheschoolandhavecompletedthestateanddistrictgraduationrequirements.GoodstandingmeansthestudenthaspassedallFlexclassesormadeupforlostcredit,hasagoodcitizenshiprecord,anddoesn’thaveanyoutstandingdebttotheschool.

GRADESReportcardsareissuedthreetimeseachyear.Theyareissuedtoenablethehomeandthestudenttobeinformedofthestudent'sprogress.Thefollowingtermsareusedindescribinggrades:A/4ThestudentdemonstratesadeepunderstandingofthematerialandcanapplyitinmostnewsituationsB/3ThestudentdemonstratesasolidunderstandingofthematerialandcanapplyitinmanynewsituationsC/2ThestudentdemonstratesanaverageunderstandingofthematerialandcansometimesapplyininnewsituationsD/1ThestudentdemonstrateslittleunderstandingthematerialandcanrarelyapplyitsuccessfullyinnewsituationsF/0(nocreditgiven)Thestudentdoesn’tdemonstrateanunderstandingofthematerialandcannotapplyit.Incomplete“I”gradescanchangetopassinggradeifmadeupwithinsixweeksfromtheendofthetrimester,unlessfallingunderuniversityconcurrentenrollmentclassification.Typicallyteachersdonotgive“I”gradesthirdtrimester.Onceateacherassignsagradetoastudent,thatgradecanonlybechangedbytheteacherthatgavethegradeandwithinsixweeksofthegradebeingposted.An"incomplete"or“I”grademay(1)berequestedbythestudentifillnessorotherextenuatingcircumstancearisewhichwillpreventhim/herfromcompletingtherequiredcourseworkor(2)begiveninaPerformance-basedclassbytheinstructorifthestudenthasnotyetdemonstratedmastery.The“I”grademaybegivenforpurposesofremediationonly,notforpostponementorevasionofafailinggrade.Unlessthestudenthasearnedatleast60%ofthepossiblepoints,an“I”grademaynotbegiven.Ifastudentreceivesan“I”,he/shemustmakearrangementswiththeteachertocompletetheassignedworkasquicklyaspossible,innocasenolaterthansixweeksafterendofthetrimester.Afteranincompletehasbeenonthetranscriptbeyondthesixthweekandthestudenthasfailedtocompleterequirements,thegradewillbechangedtoan“F”.Thesoleexceptiontothispolicyisifthestudentisenrolledinauniversityconcurrentenrollmentclassrequiringmorethanonetrimestertocomplete.Inthisinstance,theinstructormayopttogivethestudentan“I”forthefirsttrimestergrade,whichwillbechangedtoreflectthefinalclassgradeattheendofthesecondtrimester.Studentswishingtoretakeacourseandreceiveagradechangemustrequesttodosowiththeiracademiccounselorbeforeretakingthecourse.Acoursegradechange

requestformmustbesignedbytheprincipalandsubmittedbeforethefirstdayoftheretakenclassinorderforthenewgradetoreplacethepreviouscoursegrade.Followingcompletion,theoldgradewillberemovedfromthetranscriptandthenewgraderecordedonthetranscriptincompliancewithdistrictpolicy.

GRIEVANCEPROCEDURETheadministrationrecognizesthateachstudenthastherighttopresentthroughacceptedchannelsofcommunication,anygrievancethathe/shemayhave.Thegrievancemaybepresented,reviewedandequitablyresolvedthroughdueprocess.Eachstudentisentitledtoregisteragrievancebythefollowingsteps:

A. Thegrievanceshouldbepresentedtotheassignedassistantprincipal.B. Ifthegrievantisnotsatisfiedbythedecisionoftheassistantprincipal,the

grievantmayappealthedecisiontotheprincipalforarbitration.C. Ifthegrievantisnotsatisfiedbytheprincipal'sdecision,thegrievantmay

thensubmitthegrievanceinwritingtothesuperintendent.

HARASSMENTTheCacheCountySchoolDistrictforbidsanyformofharassment.Studentswhobelievetheyarebeingharassed,mayfirsttotellthepersoninvolvedtostop.Inmanycasestheclearindicationthiswillbeenoughtotakecareofthesituation.Studentsarenotrequired,however,toconfrontthepersoninthisway.Studentshavetherighttotaketheproblemimmediatelyanddirectlytoappropriateschoolauthorities.RidgelineHighSchoolalsousesanonymoustips.comandtheSafeUTappasameansforstudentsandparentstoreportharassment,abuse,oranyotherunsafeorinappropriatebehavior.

HOMEBOUNDAparentorguardianmayrequestinstructionalmaterialsforastudentifaccidentorillnessnecessitatesmorethanthreeconsecutivedaysofabsences.RequestsshouldbemadethroughtheAttendanceOffice,andthematerialsmaybepickedupattheAttendanceOffice.Tocurbabuse,aletterfromadoctormayberequiredbeforeastudentisplacedonhomeboundrolls.

IMMUNIZATIONSStudentswhohavenotupdatedtheirimmunizationwillnotbeadmittedtoschool.Statelawrequirestheschoolreviewallstudentimmunizationstoassurecompliancewiththestatelaw.

LASERPOINTINGDEVICESStudentsmaynotpossesslaser-pointingdevicesoncampus.Anylaserdevicefoundinastudent'spossessionwillbeconfiscatedandnotreturned.

LOCKERSStudentlockersareschoolpropertyandaresubjecttosearchbyschooladministrators.Becausetheschoolcannotcontrolthestudent'sdisseminationoflockercombinationnumbers,theschoolisnotresponsiblenorliablefortheftsfromlockers.StudentsareencouragedNOTtoleavevaluablesormoneyinlockers.Studentswillberesponsiblefortheassignedlocker.Anydestructiontoalockerwillbechargedagainsttheoccupantsunlessreportedotherwise.

MAKE-UPPOLICYClassworkortestsmissedbecauseofstudentabsencemustbepromptlymadeup.Teacherdisclosurestatementsrevealthelimitationsimposedbytheteacher,usuallynotingtheworkmustbecompletedwithin5days.Teachersmaynotacceptmake-upworkafterthattimelimit.Itistheresponsibilityofeachstudenttoarrangeforhis/herownmake-upworkwhenabsent,whetheritbeduetoillness,suspension,vacationorotherschoolorparentalexcusedactivities.Toarrangeformake-upwork,astudentand/orparentmaycontactteachersdirectly,callafellowstudentforassignments,gettheworkbeforehand,orpickupthehomeworkwhenhe/shereturnstoschool.Whenastudent'sabsenceisunverifiedortheresultofasuspension,theschoolisundernocompulsiontoprovideformake-upworkorexaminations.

MEDICINEDISPENSINGTeachersandadministratorsdonotdispenseanykindofmedicine.

Ifastudenthasneedofaspirinoranyotherkindofnon-prescriptionmedicine,he/sheshouldbringitfromhomeandcarryitwiththem.Theyarenotpermittedtodistributeittoothers.Medicationmayonlybeadministeredtoastudentbytheprincipal’ssecretaryoranotherdesigneeif:1. Thestudent'sparentorlegalguardianhasprovidedacurrentwrittenandsignedrequestthatmedicationbeadministeredduringregularschoolhourstothestudent;and2. Thestudent'slicensedhealthcareproviderhasprescribedthemedicationandprovidesdocumentationastothemethod,amount,andtimescheduleforadministration,andastatementthatadministrationofmedicationbyschoolemployeesduringperiodswhenthestudentisunderthecontroloftheschoolismedicallynecessary.Theseschoolpersonnelarenotliable,civillyorcriminally,foranyadversereactionsufferedbythestudentasaresultoftakingthemedication.Astudentispermittedtopossessandself-administerasthmaordiabetesmedicationorrelatedmedicaldevices,suppliesandequipment,ifthestudent'sparentorguardiansignsastatementauthorizingthestudenttoself-administerthemedicationandacknowledgesintheletterthatthestudentisresponsiblefor,andcapableof,self-administeringthemedication.Thestudent'shealthcareprovidermustalsoprovideawrittenstatementthatstatesthenameoftheasthmaordiabetesmedicationprescribedorauthorizedforthestudent'suseandthatitismedicallyappropriateforthestudenttoself-administerthemedicationandbeinpossessionofasthmaordiabetesmedicationatalltimes.

PARKINGStudentselectingtoparkattheschooldosoattheirownrisk.Inprovidingasafeenvironment,vehiclesonschoolcampusaresubjecttosearch.Theschoolisnotresponsibleorliablefordamageortheftdonetovehiclesorcontentsofvehicleswhileparkedatschool.Studentsarenottoparkinfacultyparkinglots,firelanes,orinvisitorparkingareas.Vehiclesparkedimproperlywillbecited,booted,ortowedatthedriver'sexpense.TheparkinglotsarepatrolledduringschoolhoursbyCacheCountySheriffofficers,andviolatorswillbecited.A$15fineisstandardforviolations,payabletotheschoolbookkeeper.Followingyourthirdunpaidviolation,youwillbebooted.Shoulda“boot”beplacedonyourcar,a$50finewillberequiredbeforethebootis

PHOTOGRAPHING/VIDEOTAPINGStudentsparticipatinginschoolactivities,performances,oreventsareunderstoodtoalsoconsenttophotography,videotaping,orothermeansofrecordingtheactivity,performance,orevent.Studentsareprohibitedfromphotographing/videotapinganotherindividualatschoolwithoutthatindividual’sknowledgeorconsent.

PUBLICADDRESSSYSTEMORVIDEOBROADCASTSAsageneralrulePAannouncementsorvideonewsbroadcastsaretobemadeonceadayforschoolrelated/sponsoredactivitiesonly.AnnouncementsshouldbesubmittedtotheMainOfficeandrequirethesignatureoftheadvisor.

RELEASETIMEStudentswhoareregisteredforReleaseTimearenotpermittedtoremainontheRidgelinecampusandmaybeticketedfortrespassing.

RESIDENCYStudentsmustlivewithparentsorlegalguardianwhileattendingRidgelineHighSchool.Studentswholiveoutsidetheschoolboundariesmustcompleteaschool-choiceapplicationandbeapprovedbythedistrictbeforeattendingRidgeline.

RESOURCEOFFICERAdeputysheriffmaintainsanofficeattheschoolandassistsininvestigationsattheschool,conductsroutinepatrols,enforcesallapplicablelaws,aswellasteachesalawenforcementclass.Studentsandparentsarewelcometocontacttheresourceofficerforlawenforcementrelatedmatters.Alltheftsshouldbereportedimmediatelytotheresourceofficer.Theschoolisnotresponsibleforlostorstolenitems.

SUSPENSIONTheschoolmaysuspendastudentforinappropriatebehaviorforuptotendaysperoccurance.Duringasuspension,thestudentmaynotbeontheschoolcampus.Teachersareundernoobligationtoprovidehomeworkortestsforstudentssuspendedfromschool.Everystudentsuspendedfromschoolwillbereferredtoacounselorforguidance.

TRANSFERSAstudent’sPlanforCollegeandCareerReadiness(PCCR)guidesclassregistration.Notransfersarepermittedafterthefirstthreedaysofatrimester.Ifatransferismadeduringagradingperiod,anyacademicgradesearnedandattendanceinfractionsfromtheexitedclasswillbetransferredtothenewclassrecords.Transfercreditsfromnon-accreditededucationalinstitutionsmayormaynotbeaccepted.Acceptanceofsuchcreditwillbeatthediscretionoftheadministration.

TRAVELStudentsrepresentingtheschoolmusttravelasagrouptoandfromtheactivityandusedistrictapprovedtransportation.Theonlyexceptiontothispolicyisthat,atthediscretionoftheadvisor,theadvisormayelecttoallowastudenttotravelhomeafteranactivitywiththatstudent'sparent/guardian.Innoeventwillastudentbeallowedtotravelhomewithanyoneotherthanthatstudent'sparent/guardian.Allstudentsinvolvedinschoolactivitiesmustadheretodistrictapprovedtransportationpolicies.

TRESPASSUtahStatelawprovidesthatapersonisguiltyofcriminaltrespassuponschoolpropertyifthepersonentersorremainsunlawfullyuponschoolproperty,and:

1. Intendstocauseannoyanceorinjurytoapersonordamagetopropertyontheschoolproperty;

2. Intendstocommitacrime;or3. Isrecklessastowhethertheperson'spresencewillcausefearforthe

safetyofanother;or4. Entersorremainswithoutauthorizationuponschoolpropertyif

noticeagainstentryorremaininghasbeengivenby:5. Personalcommunicationtothepersonbyaschoolofficialoran

individualwithapparentauthoritytoactforaschoolofficial;6. Thepostingofsignslikelytocometotheattentionoftrespassers;7. Fencingorotherenclosureobviouslydesignedtoexcludetrespassers;

or8. Acurrentorderofsuspensionorexpulsion.

Duringclasstime,studentsareexpectedtobeinclass.Studentsarenotallowedtobeintheschoolbuildingiftheyarenotenrolledinaclass.Violatorswillbecitedfortrespassandreferredtothecourts.Ifyouareinthebuildingoronschoolgrounds

afterhoursoronweekendswithoutadultsupervisionanddirection,youcanbearrestedfortrespass.

VISITORSVisitorsmayattendRidgelineHighSchoolonlywiththepermissionofaprincipalandwiththereceiptofavisitor'spass.Admissionintoeachclassisbyshowingthevisitor'spasstotheinstructorandbythepermissionoftheclassroomteacher.Visitorswithoutavisitor'spassmaybecitedfortrespass.StudentvisitorsfromotherCacheValleyschoolsarenotpermittedduringschoolhoursunlesstheyarepartofanofficialstudentdelegationfromavalleyschoolandareheretorepresentthatschool.

WEAPONSStatelawprohibitsastudentfrompossessingaweapon(realorfacsimile),explosive,flammablematerial,orothermaterialdangeroustopersonsorpropertyinapublicorprivateelementaryorsecondaryschool,onthegroundsoftheschool,orinthosepartsofabuilding,park,orstadiumwhicharebeingusedforanactivitysponsoredbyorthroughtheschool.

WITHDRAWALSANDREFUNDSThestudentmustcontacthiscounselorforaninterviewandwithdrawalform.ThisformistobepresentedtoeachteacherandtheMediaCoordinatorandthebookkeeperwhowilllistanychargesdueandsignthespaceprovided.Anygradethestudenthasearnedtodatewillalsobelistedbyeachteacherontherighthandmarginofthewithdrawalform.Norefundscanbemadeforinsurancebecausepremiumsaresubmittedtotheinsuringcompanyatthebeginningoftheschoolyear.UpdatedRHSAdministration7/9/2018
