I know I wasnt alone in being amazed by the talent, dedication, commitment and courage of the 70+ students who participated, as well as being amazed by those same qualities (and throw in a heap of patience, energy and persistence) on behalf of their teacher, Ms Bec Summers. It was also heart-warming to have so many family and friends there to support their children and also help out with the catering for the event. We certainly dont underestimate your commitment to the program either and know you play a vital part in the home-support, through encouraging persistence, resilience and regular practice at home. In just 18 months, NASS has an Instrumental Concert Band (consisting of 30+ students) and a School Choir (consisting of 50+ students) of which we can all be extremely proud. Just imagine what they will be like in another 18 months….hopefully by then (with all of your help), we will have an awesome performing arts facility (which will be our upgraded and extended Hall), in which to conduct these concerts! (Just imagine having a permanent stage, dressing rooms off to the sides, a series of aerial microphones hanging above the stage, and a hall large enough to seat our whole school community for these events!!!) DANCE FEVER STARTS MONDAY 10 JULY We are thrilled to have the amazing and talented Dance Fever team back at NASS next term, to run the 10 week Dance program each Monday, commencing 10 July. The Years 3-6 children will be learning the Jive, Tango and Hip Hop. The P-2 children will be learning foundation dance steps which lead into those dances in the later years. There will also be the Dance Extravaganza celebration evening on Thursday 14 September and the DF Interschool Dance Challenge in Brisbane for Years 3-6 students on Sunday 10 September! The $25 fee (per child) for this 10 week program has already been included in the Grid of Cost Fees which most families by now, will have completed paying. If you havent yet done so, please ensure your fees are paid so that your children dont miss out on this great opportunity. WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAY We would like to thank you all for another wonderful term at school—it is always quite surprising to look back and see how much we have accomplished as a school community, for our studentsbenefit. We look forward to seeing you all back at school ready for Term 3 on Monday, 10 July! Kind regards, Kelly

Dear Parents & Carers, Last night, we had the pleasure of being entertained by our Instrumental Music Program and Choir students at the inaugural NASS GALA MUSIC NIGHT—and what a night it was! I know I wasn’t alone in being amazed by the talent, dedication, commitment and courage of the 70+ students who participated, as well as being amazed by those same qualities (and throw in a heap of patience, energy and persistence) on behalf of their teacher, Ms Bec Summers. It was also heart-warming to have so many family and friends there to support their children and also help out with the catering for the event. We certainly don’t underestimate your commitment to the program either and know you play a vital part in the home-support, through encouraging persistence, resilience and regular practice at home.

(Just imagine having a permanent stage, dressing rooms off to the sides, a series of aerial microphones hanging above the stage, and a hall large enough to seat our whole school community for these events!!!)

DANCE FEVER STARTS MONDAY 10 JULY We are thrilled to have the amazing and talented Dance Fever team back at NASS next term, to run the 10 week Dance program each Monday, commencing 10 July.

If you haven’t yet done so, please ensure your fees are paid so that your children don’t miss out on this great opportunity.

WISHING YOU ALL A HAPPY AND SAFE HOLIDAY We would like to thank you all for another wonderful term at school—it is always quite surprising to look back and see how much we have accomplished as a school community, for our students’ benefit. We look forward to seeing you all back at school ready for Term 3 on Monday, 10 July! Kind regards,

‘Giving Back to the Community Program’.

We are really pleased to accept $375 donation.

It’s always great to know that our school community are spreading the good word about our school.

PREP ENROLMENTS FOR 2018

We currently have eleven families at school who have not returned the enrolment forms for their prep student for next year. Please return your forms together with an original birth certificate before the end of Term 2 if possible.

We will be scheduling Prep Information sessions

and Prep Transition Afternoons starting in Term 3 and it would be wonderful to have as many students as possible enrolled on our system by then.

BEHAVIOUR FOCUS (WEEK 10) During this week at school, our students are learning about how to BE RESPECTFUL WHEN ON EXCURSIONS. We do this by: Using appropriate language at all times Using our manners at all times Treating others the way we want to be

treated Showing pride in oneself and our school Setting a good example as a NASS student Reporting any damage to the facilities Thank you for following-up the learning at school,

with conversations at home about being

respectful.

*SUPER SAVERS* COMPETITION for JUNE And the winner is…...Christian A from 4Vs. Christian has won himself a bag of goodies from the CBA for being a regular saver and having deposited a least two times during the month of June.

REPORT CARDS FOR SEMESTER ONE, 2017

Students were issued with their Report Cards this week.

For those parents who have shared responsibility, we have duplicate copies available at the office for collection.

RURAL FIRE BRIGADE NEED

VOLUNTEERS

We are all keenly aware of the awesome

job that our rural fire fighters have done in

the past twelve months especially, when

homes/businesses were threatened on

more than one occasion.

The local North Arm branch of the Rural Fire Brigade

urgently needs volunteers to assist helping to keep our

district safe from harm. Training is available and meetings

are held on the first Saturday afternoon of each month.

They also hold fundraising at the Yandina Markets and you

may be called upon to help on the stall occasionally.

PLEASE HELP by contacting

Wayne Oliver on 0448 770 677 for more information.

GRID OF COSTS

Thank you to all parents who have paid their Grid of Costs or are in the process of paying by instalments. We do not want any child missing out on valuable teaching and excursions, so please make sure these costs are paid as soon as possible.

SHOW STOPPERS! STEPHANIE ALEXANDER KITCHEN GARDEN NEWS from Lis Our North Arm pumpkin, grapefruit and mint all won at the recent Sunshine Coast Show. The children took the pumpkin around the school on a victory tour yesterday. Luckily, I had another pumpkin to roast for the Pumpkin Gnocchi, as they weren't very happy about roasting our prize pumpkin! The pumpkin was a Jap pumpkin. Did you know that this means ‘Just Another Pumpkin’? If your children have been telling you about the delicious Pumpkin Gnocchi with Burnt Butter and Sage Sauce, have a look on the school website under Forms and Documents for the recipe. I also entered lemon butter and Anzac biscuits. The Anzac biscuits placed second. Happy cooking and gardening in the holidays. Thank you to all our amazing volunteers in the kitchen and garden.

STUDENT COUNCIL ART COMPETITION WINNERS!

The SRC held an art competition for students in Year 3 – 6. The finalists are being displayed in the library and the winning pieces of art from each grade are displayed here and on the follow-ing page.

Recently all North Arm State School families were invited to complete a Reading Eggs/Reading Eggspress survey

via Survey Monkey. Parents were requested to provide feedback as to the program’s effectiveness and usage at

home. Based on the overwhelming amount of parent support for the program, our school’s annual subscription

has been renewed.

Here are some of the aggregated results from the Ninety-two families who completed the survey.

Dr Douglas Fisher, author and researcher, says that if a child reads for 20 minutes a day, that is the equivalent to

1,800,000 words per year, and they will consequently score within the 90th percentile on standardised tests. He

then goes on to say that if a child reads for 5 minutes a day, that is the equivalent of reading 282,000 words per

year and they will consequently score within the 50th percentile on standardised tests.

Reading Eggs/Reading Eggspress is an effective reading resource for increasing your children’s reading mileage.

Therefore, North Arm State School will be providing a parent information session for all interested parents/carers

as sixty–eight percent of parents who completed the Reading Eggs survey expressed an interest in learning more

about how Reading Eggs/Eggspress can be used to achieve maximum benefits for their child’s reading success.

It seems Dr Seuss was right when he said, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that

you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

Please note: As promised, all families who completed the survey were entered into the Reading Eggs draw which

was drawn by Kelly Edgar on Tuesday, 20 June. The lucky winner of a $25 tuckshop voucher is (drum roll)… Xavier D

(2MB). Congratulations!
