Support is provided through almost 200 student Award Funds that provide over 500 awards annually.

High School StudentsFRASER W. LOCKWOOD MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP* One award valued at $2,500 minimum (applied directly to tuition) renewable for 3 years of consecutive study as long as criteria continue to be met. For students (Canadian citizens or Permanent residents) entering their first year of full-time studies in their first undergraduate program. Acceptance to university or college directly from Grade 12, either a Public (CBE) or Separate (CCSD) School in Calgary. Preference is given to those students with financial need whose families have a connection to the Philipino community. Student demonstrates commitment to community development and leadership. Has contributed to the community by volunteering through church community organizations, athletics, and cultural or political activities. $2,500, one award. Apply to: CF. Deadline: June 30.

GORDON SKITCH SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship is for Grade 12 student with Cerebral Palsy enrolled in high school (CBE and Calgary Catholic). Scholarship is to motivate a deserving student to prepare for post-secondary who may be discouraged from doing so by reason of financial need. Community service, financial need, and scholastic achievement are required. $300-$400, one award. Apply to: Cerebral Palsy Association in Alberta.

JANE MCCAIG AWARD Scholarship is for Grade 9, 10, or 11 student providing motivation to continue learning through a very challenging period in their life. Applicant must be an all around good student who has exhibited significant improvement, is enjoying school and is serving as a role model. Approx. $1,000, one award. Apply to: Calgary Academy.

JIM & MERTIE CHILTON SCHOLARSHIP In memory of Jim and Mertie Chilton. Scholarship is for positive, highly motivated academic Grade 12 student having the highest academic average in the sciences and involved in leadership roles. Provides financial support for pursuit of postsecondary education. Approx. $2,000, one award. Apply to: Willow Creek Composite.

JOHN TOWNLEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP In memory of John Townley, scholarships are presented to Grade 12 students who are significant contributors to their school basketball teams, who are leading school and community ‘citizens,’ who are academically strong and who are considered great teammates. $1,000 or as determined by the Calgary Senior High School Athletic Association. Nominated by The Calgary Booster Club and Basketball Alberta.

KERMET ARCHIBALD & JACOBA VAN DEN BRINK ENTRANCE BURSARY In honour of Kermet Archibald and Jacoba Van Den Brink, multiple renewable bursaries valued at approximately $10,000 each based on tuition costs for graduating Grade 12 students, CBE or CCSD, accepted to a Canadian postsecondary institution in any of the hard sciences, all engineering departments, geology, biology, veterinary medicine, medicine. Applicants must demonstrate financial need, academic achievement and submit essay describing impact. Approx. $10,000 based on tuition, multiple renewable awards. Apply to EducationMatters. KERRY DYTE EDUCATION AWARD For a student who attended a Catholic high school in Calgary during the year the application is made. Demonstrated outstanding citizenship and leadership, financial need. Award amount minimum $4,000. Apply to: CCSD Scholarship Coordinator. Deadline: May 31.

LINDSAY LEIGH KIMMETT MEMORIAL FOUNDATION VALEDICTORIAN SCHOLARSHIPScholarship is for top academic students involved in extra-curricular activities to take on the role of class valedictorian. $1,000, three awards. Apply to: Bow Valley High School, Cochrane High School and St. Timothy School.

M. CECIL BROWNLEE BURSARYScholarship is to encourage deserving students in Grade 10 to prepare for post-secondary education, who might be discouraged from so doing by reason of financial need. MARGUERITE PATRICIA P. BANNISTER MEMORIAL DEGREE AWARDS In memory of Marguerite Patricia P. Bannister. Scholarship is for Grade 12 students accepted to the University of Calgary in any area of study. Preference for applicant to be from a single parent family. Applicants must show financial need. Volunteer and/or leadership activities encouraged. SCOTT BOBYE SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is in memory of Scott Bobye, and recognizes proficiency of a Grade 12 student entering university in the junior achievement business program. Approx. $2,000, one award. Apply to: Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta.

SHANNON BURWASH AWARD FOR ENCOURAGEMENT IN EQUINE & AGRICULTURAL STUDIES* Established to honour the legacy of Shannon’s love for the horse and extensive involvement in the Quarter Horse industry. Shannon was an active director and treasurer for both the Quarter Horse Association of Alberta and the Canadian Quarter Horse Association, and was an Alberta director for the American

Quarter Horse Association. Her involvement also extended to Equine Canada committees. *Applicants must be entering first or second year of study at a Canadian post-secondary in any field of study with emphasis on horses, agriculture, agribusiness, animal health technology or equine veterinary medicine. $1,000, two awards. RICHARD R. & LINDA A. SINGLETON AWARD This scholarship was established to assist Calgary Board of Education high school students who have demonstrated academic abilities, community service and have financial need to realize their goal to attend post-secondary institutions. $2,500, one award. SHELAGH NEARY MIKULAK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FOR LEADERSHIP & INNOVATION IN LIBRARY STUDIES* In memory of Shelagh Mikulak, for a student in any year of study, including entrance, at a Canadian post-secondary enrolled in a Library Technician program, Certificate program, Undergraduate or Graduate degree who demonstrates a passion for the library sciences field. ANDREW PATTERSON MEMORIAL AWARD In memory of Andrew Patterson, this award is for a graduating Grade 12 student planning to attend an apprenticeship program in the trades at an accredited post-secondary institution. $350, one award. Apply to Standard High School.

BATES WARDLE AWARD FOR LIFEGUARDSEstablished in 2018 by family and friends in memory of Frances (Frankie) Bates. This award celebrates those who volunteer to help others and recognizes the importance of the role that lifeguards play in the community. For students aged 12 and upwards to Grade 12, pursuing certification or advancing training as a lifeguard. Well-rounded students with emphasis on volunteering/improving their community attending: Bow Valley High School, Cochrane High School, St. Timothy Jr./Sr. High School, Innisfail High School, St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Catholic School. $750 two awards. CARLIE BELL MEMORIAL GOOD SAMARITAN AWARD Honoring Carlie Bell, this award recognizes the accomplishments of a wellrounded Grade 12 student active in the community who has attended entire year of Grade 12 at Three Hills High School. Award recognizes a student who has demonstrated the qualities of a Good Samaritan, service to others through care, outreach and selfless contribution to others. $500, one award nominated by three classmates. Apply to: Three Hills School guidance counselor.

CENTRAL ALUMNI PERSONAL EXCELLENCE AWARD Scholarship recognizes graduates at Central Memorial Senior High School who have achieved high academic excellence and achievement in the areas of athletics and citizenship. $350, two awards. Apply to: Central Memorial.

CHRIS AND BETTY HARVEY MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP In memory of Chris and Betty Harvey, Rimbey Junior Senior High School selects a graduating Grade 12 student with qualifying Grades to enter university, college or technical school. Award is based on financial need and community involvement. One award, $1,000. Apply to: Rimbey Junior Senior High.

CHRISTINE CARRON MATH AWARD In memory of Christine Carron, an 18 year old Ridgetown District High School (RDHS) graduate who died in July 1977 as a result of complications from a dental procedure. She was an Ontario scholar, the Graduating Class Grad Queen, and the President of her class. Math was one of her favourite subjects. Friends and family started the award for the student receiving the highest math marks in the graduating class at RDHS. $200-$250, one award. Apply to: RDHS.

CLAPHAM BURSARY Awarded annually to a Central Memorial High School student planning to attend a post-secondary institution. The award is based on the following criteria: financial need, satisfactory academic standing, extracurricular activities, for example, involvement in sports or music. $500, one award. CLAUDE GAUVIN SCHOLARSHIPS In memory of Claude Gauvin, a prominent builder and community supporter, these awards are for graduating Grade 12 students to begin a construction trade career in any of the following areas: electrician, carpentry, plumbing, architectural drafting and landscape design. CONNOR RHYS SIMPSON MEMORIAL AWARD The selection committee at Western Canada High School selects the recipient based on the following criteria: Positive attitude towards life and school, determination to improve self and

DENNIS ANDERSON CITIZENSHIP AWARDS These awards recognize outstanding students who show civic engagement, involvement in their student council and community leadership. One award per school, variable amount. Nominated by: Bishop Carroll, Central Memorial and St. James Elementary and Junior High.

DR. G. FRED MCNALLY SCHOLARSHIP Established in fond memory of Dr. McNally, a noted Alberta educator, this scholarship supports a graduating student from Western Canada High School with outstanding academic performance, good citizenship, extracurricular activities, school and community volunteerism. $1,000, one award. Apply to: Western Canada High School.

DR. JAMES DUNCAN CAMPBELL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP The Dr. James Duncan Campbell Memorial Scholarship was established to honor the life and accomplishments of Dr. James Campbell. Dr. Campbell’s connection to Crescent Heights High School was a significant part of his life. His father was a teacher there, Dr. Campbell was an alumnus of the school and his five children also graduated from Crescent Heights. Recognizes excellence in academic achievement. $375, one award. Apply to: Crescent Heights High School.

DR. M. E. KOZIOL MEMORIAL AWARD In memory of Dr. M.E. Koziol to recognize high school students graduating from County of Vulcan pursuing a career in medicine, nursing or health sciences. $500, one award. Apply to: County Central High School Vulcan.

DRUMHELLER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship is for Grade 12 students from Drumheller Composite High School continuing education at any university, vocational school or college. Applicant must show

scholastic excellence and be pursuing studies in classical music or medicine. Leadership, volunteerism, caring, and helpful to others, personal integrity and Christian values, financial need, rating of classmates also required. $5,000, two, two year awards. Apply to: Drumheller Composite High School.

EDWIN B. CALLAWAY SCHOLARSHIPIn memory of Edwin B. Callaway. Scholarship is for a Saint John’s student with proficiency in written or oral communication skills in such areas as parliament, creative writing, literature, history and debating. $200, one award. Apply to: Mother Earth’s Children’s Charter School.

F.S. BAKER FAMILY SCHOLARSHIP FUND In memory of Frank Baker, born in 1925, who grew up during the depression, and for financial and other reasons was unable to attend post-secondary. He had a strong character, integrity and willingness to serve others and community. The scholarship identifies these traits in applicants to provide financial support and help to go to post-secondary. Scholarship is for students showing financial need, academic achievement and community service. Applicants show community service by submitting an essay titled, “Making a Difference.” Approximately $850, two or more awards. Apply to: Bishop McNally High School.

JONATHAN ANDREWS MEMORIAL AWARD In memory of Jonathan Andrews who was exceptionally committed to Western’s Athletic Program. To be awarded to a Grade 12 student at time of nomination, accepted into post-secondary who has shown continuous support for Western Canada High School’s Athletic Program. Including but not limited to supporters, trainers, managers, photographers, statisticians, mascots, sports medicine practitioners, etc. Amount $1000, one award. Apply to: CF. Deadline: May 10.

JONATHAN PAUL SCOTT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship is for Grade 1-12 student at Queen Margaret’s. Student has made significant progress during the school year, has returned for subsequent year, and is in financial need. Approx. $300, one award. Apply to: Queen Margaret’s School, Duncan, BC.

JORDAN ROPPEL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIPIn memory of Jordan Roppel, this scholarship supports graduates of Standard High School who are continuing their education. Community participation, extra-curricular school activities and overall character of the applicant will be considered. $1,000, one award. Apply to: Standard High School. K.C.YEUNG MEMORIAL AWARD This scholarship is to help students attending the Calgary Chinese Public School. Approx. $1,000, one award. Apply to: Standard High School.

MICHAEL COPELAND MEMORIAL AWARD In memory of Michael Copeland this scholarship recognizes students or staff at the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School who, by way of a specific act or project, have made significant contributions to the well-being of the school. Approx. $450, one award. Apply to: Strathcona-Tweedsmuir.

NICK GALLELLI MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP Scholarship for a Grade 12 student enrolled in St. Francis Senior High School in Calgary. Student must plan on pursuing post-secondary education with a major in business, business administration, commerce, economics, finance or accounting. Purpose of award is to motivate a deserving student in Grade 12 to prepare for university or other post-secondary education, who might otherwise be discouraged by reason of

financial need. Community service is also required. Approximately $1,000, one award. Apply to: St. Francis.

OKOTOKS ROTARY CAREER OPPORTUNITY AWARDS* The Rotary Career Opportunity Fund is a program of the Rotary Club of Okotoks. For students graduating from one of the two Okotoks High Schools, entering first year of study at a public Alberta postsecondary institution and demonstrating financial need. Student must show leadership and motivational skills through participation in student, community, and/or business activities. Aademic achievement must be adequate to gain admittance to the student’s school and program of choice. Two awards valued at $1,500 each (one in each of the two Okotoks High Schools). Two awards valued at $1,500 each (for students graduating from Foothills Composite, Holy Trinity Academy, or St. Luke’s Outreach Okotoks). Apply to CF. Deadline June 15.

OWEN HART MEMORIAL AWARDS* In memory of Owen Hart who died while working for WWF. These awards recognize students who are motivated to improve their lives through education. Applicants must be graduating Grade 12 from one of the following schools: Forest Lawn, Western Canada, Ernest Manning, Crescent Heights, Sir Winston Churchill and planning to attend an accredited Canadian post-secondary institution in the next academic year. Applicants must have at least a 70 per cent average or post-secondary entry requirement. Preference given to students employed part-time, and in financial need. $4,000, ten awards. Additional $500 honorariums may be awarded. Apply to: CF. Deadline: June 25.

PATRICIA G. HUNT SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is for a student attending Mother Earth’s Children’s Charter School. Approx. $150, one award. Apply to Mother Earth’s Children’s Charter School.

TING HOKNIN MEMORIAL AWARD This scholarship, supported by the Sino-Canada Culture Association, helps students attending the Calgary Chinese School. Approx. $500, one award. Apply to: SinoCanada Culture Association.

Undergraduate StudentsADVOCIS AWARD Awards are for students with academic merit (min. 3.00 GPA), and participation in extracurricular activities, an interest in sales and in life insurance industry, Canadian citizen or permanent resident. $2,000, two awards. Apply to: U of C.

ALBERTA GEOMATICS GROUP SCHOLARSHIPIt is the intention of the AGG that through this scholarship, further advancement of the geomatics industry will be facilitated by supporting students who demonstrate an interest in the use of geomatics technology within their field of study. Based on academic merit, offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering 3rd or 4th year in any faculty. $500, two awards. Apply to: U of C, SAIT.

FOGOLÂR FURLAN DI CALGARY SCHOLARSHIP IN ITALIAN STUDIES FOR ALBERTA STUDENTS*Established by the Fogolâr Furlan di Calgary to promote education and provide financial assistance for residents of Alberta, majoring in Italian studies, undergraduate entering 4th year of fulltime studies, with a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the previous year. Min. $1,200, one award. Apply to: CF. Deadline: May 30.

JEANNE HENUSET-FRASER MEMORIAL BURSARY FOR RURAL MANITOBA STUDENTS* Established to honour the memory of Jeanne Henuset-Fraser, to enable students from a rural Manitoba background to fulfill their educational dreams at a Canadian

post-secondary institution of their choice. Applicants must have resided in rural Manitoba (outside Brandon and Winnipeg), be entering their second subsequent year of full-time studies in an undergraduate degree or diploma in the upcoming Fall, demonstrate financial need and be pursuing a career-oriented degree in Nursing, Math, Sciences, Education, Medicine, Law, or the Trades leading directly to employment in the specified field. One award at $2,500. Apply to CF. Deadline July 15.

THE KYLE BLOCK SCHOLARSHIP*Open to students studying engineering, economics or law in second year or beyond at a post-secondary institution in Alberta, Saskatchewan or British Columbia. In addition to financial need and academic standing, involvement (past or present) in competitive sports, music, fine arts or social justice issues will be considered in awarding scholarships. $2,500 min, one or more awards. Apply to: CF. Deadline: June 1.

LINDSAY LEIGH KIMMETT PRIZE IN EMERGENCY MEDICINE Lindsay Kimmett was completing her second year of medical school when she was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident. Lindsay was passionate about medicine and had chosen Emergency Medicine as her career goal. Offered annually to graduating students in an Emergency Medicine program in the Faculty of Medicine. Based on academic merit, preference will be given to students who show exceptional leadership and involvement in the athletics program. $2,525, one award. Apply to: U of C.

MARGARET & ROBERT MONTGOMERY LAW SCHOLARSHIP Offered annually to a continuing undergraduate student entering third year in the Faculty of Law, JD Program. Based on academic merit, extra-curricular activities demonstrating community service and volunteerism. $3,000 min. two awards. Apply to: U of C.

PHYLLIS WESTON SCHOLARSHIP* In memory of Phyllis Weston who taught for 40 years in Calgary Public Schools. Her teaching had a lasting impact on many students. Scholarship is for Canadian citizen, Alberta resident who attended their final year of high school in Calgary, full-time students registered at U of C, U of A, or U of L entering their final year of studies in an education degree program, specializing in English, and planning on teaching High School English. Good academic standing is required. $1,000, one award. Apply to: CF. Deadline: June 30.

BARB HIGGINS INSPIRATION AWARD IN BROADCASTING & JOURNALISM This entrance award is for students in Radio, Television & Broadcast News, Film & Video Production and Journalism Programs in the School of Information and Communications Technologies who are in financial need

and demonstrate community involvement. Preference is given to female students and single parents. $1,200, one award. Apply to: SAIT.

BEA HUNTER EASTERN STAR BURSARY This award has been set up to honour the memory of Bea Hunter, a long standing member of the Chinook Chapter of the Eastern Star. Bea had a great love of the health sector; it was always a dream of hers to become a nurse. This award recognizes a student in the their 2nd year of the Practical Nurse program. Requirements are academic improvement, excellent attendance, community/volunteer involvement, financial need. $1,500, two awards. Apply to: BVC.

C. PERCY COLE MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP In memory of C. Percy Cole, U of A Alumni 1950-51. Awarded to a student with superior academic achievement entering third year of study in the Petroleum Engineering Program. $4000, one award. Apply to: Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of Mining and Petroleum Engineering, U of A.

MICHAEL GEE SCHOLARSHIP FUND AWARD* In memory of Michael Gee, a 15 year old Midget ‘A’ hockey player with NW Calgary Athletic Association.
