Method of AnalysisStructures were originally drawn in ProE
and saved as .IGES files. Structures were
then imported into ANSYS Workbench foranalysis.
Once geometry was imported, fixedsupports and loading conditions were
added.Structural Analysis was completed.Von-Mises stresses.

Theoretical BackgroundVon Mises Stress1
The Von Mises criteria is a formula for combiningthese 3 stresses into an equivalent stress, whichis then compared to the yield stress of thematerial.
If the Von Mises Stress exceeds the yield stressdivided by a safety factor, then the material is
considered to be at the failure condition.

Equivalent Stress Area exhibiting maximum stress was reduced.
Maximum stress reduced by approximately 35 psi.
Total Deformation Area exhibiting maximum deformation was reduced.
Detriments of angular supportsSlightly more deformation across total area of
the platform.
