Our decision to support the CCH Foundation is an easy one. The backbone of a small community like Columbus is a good school system and up to date health care. If a community does not have these as a corner stone, it cannot grow and prosper. We support our school system by paying our taxes and voting for bond issues when needed. Columbus Community Hospital does not have the luxury of tax support, although many small communities do subsidize health care in that way. We are fortunate to have an admin-istration and board that take that responsibility on. They insure that a fair profit is made to continue with needed updates.

By utilizing our medical community, one supports the system. By con-tributing to the Foundation, we can also help insure that the hospital has the resources to continue to serve us with the best in medical care. We are proud to support the CCH Foundation.

We appreciate that you are taking the time to read the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation’s 200-20 Annual Report. We hope you find the personal stories and information in the follow-ing pages a testament to our on-going commitment to provide healthcare that embodies our values of Integrity, Com-passion, Accountability, Respect and Excellence.

Providing safe, high quality care and services to improve the health of the communities we serve is our mission. Our healthcare team is passionate about what they do and we are committed to support-ing you and your loved ones when illness or injury occurs.

Columbus Community Hospital is grow-ing and evolving and this past year has been filled with a flurry of activity. Major projects and initiatives include:

• Rolling out a new Strategic Plan• Implementing Electronic Medical Records• Launching a Hospitalist Program• Expanding the Hospital building• Creating a new marketing campaign “Specializing In”• Enhancing our organizational culture through TeamSTEPPS• Intensely recruiting physicians• Developing a pharmacy building and family practice clinic on East Campus.

Our organization has expressed its pur-pose in these words: “the mission of the Columbus Community Hospital Founda-tion is to build goodwill and financial support for the hospital.” Throughout this past year, we have attempted to be in-spired by them, and to take actions which would push the mission forward. We are very appreciative of all of you; your help in this endeavor was indispensable.

Your contributions - donors, employees and volunteers- exceeded $248,000.The Auxiliary continued to put in countless high quality hours of service, and generated $75,000 in funds from the Extravaganza and operation of the Gift Shop. The 200 golf tournament raised over $76,000—a new record. Two grants from outside foundations added $20,000. With a rebound in the financial markets and excellent place-ment of our accumulated capital, we had excellent investment returns.

The hospital itself is in an exciting pe-riod of making great strides in the qual-ity and scope of its facilities, staff, and services so as to insure that we will have a top-notch hospital serving Columbus and communities in a five-county area for many years to come. In 200, the Foundation funded some twenty three items, including an adult ventilator, a glidescope, cardiac rehab equipment and

more, for a total of $244,000 to enhance that program.

The Foundation hopes to be of significant service to the hospital and the patients it serves for many years to come. We thank you for your generous support in 200-20. We hope that you will continue to provide it, and that you will recommend the Foundation to others who discuss their charitable giving with you.

Sincerely,

Carroll Novicki Columbus Community Hospital Foundation Chairman

The following list details the many generous contributions received this past fiscal year, May 200 - April 20. Gifts are received through a variety of programs including Foundation Membership, the Annual Golf Tournament, memorial giving, and major gifts. Many individuals, businesses and foundations contributed to the CCH Foundation this year. We sincerely appreciate the support received at all levels.

“I have been a practicing physician at Columbus Community Hospital since finishing my residency in Otolaryngol-ogy at the Mayo Clinic 24 years ago. I have found our community and our hospital to be a wonderful place to live and work.

The hospital has been helpful in providing the staff and equipment necessary to provide excellent care for my patients. They have been supportive of the necessary changes that have been made in health care over the years. It has allowed me to practice high qual-ity medicine in rural Nebraska. There are always updates and advances in my specialty and Columbus Hospi-tal, working with the Foundation has kept up with these advances with new equipment, tests and procedures. It has been rewarding to be affiliated with the Columbus Community Hospital.

“ I have had the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors for CCHF for the past 6 years. It has been an honor to see the hard work and dedication that goes into a successful health care organization. I have been around this hospital all of my life, since I was a young boy who would go on “rounds “with my father, and now as a practicing physician for the last 22 years. I feel humbled to be a part of such a dedi-cated group, that recognizes the vital role a hospital fills in a strong community.

The medical staff is very thankful that there is a group of dedicated individuals whose sole purpose is to insure the community of Columbus has the highest quality healthcare for the years to come. We as a med staff recognize that we are in good hands with the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation on the job!

I choose to support the CCH Foundation because I have seen the great things that are funded by my donation. As an employee of CCH, it’s important to me that I can see where my hard earned dollars are going and the good that they do. This foundation has been very generous and has allowed many projects to be completed that might not have gotten done otherwise. These improvements help make CCH the great, state-of-the-art facility that it is. Carol and Denise do a great job. I trust them to do what’s right with my contributions.

My husband, Francis A. Murray, now deceased, and I were patients at Columbus Community Hospital several times in 2009 and 2010. The quality of care we received was always excellent. Our doctors were skilled and professional. The nursing staff was very efficient, cheerful and considerate of our needs.

On several occasions, my husband had to be transported by ambulance to the emergency ward and there again, the medical emergency staff was quick to assess the problem and begin treatment. All in all, I think Columbus Community Hospital is a wonderful facility with state of the art equipment and fine personnel. I consider it a privilege to be a contributor to the hospital foundation.

We wish to thank the following volunteers of the Columbus Community Hospital for their sincere commitment to the Hospital and for their generosity to the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation.

Memorial gifts are a thoughtful way to support the charitable mission of the Hospital, while also paying tribute to a family member or friend that is missed. Each year, the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation receives contributions made in memory of loved ones. Memorial gifts may be made directly to the Foundation, via our website (www.columbushosp.org), or our link on local funeral home websites.

Fortunately, our family has been blessed with good health. However, last year we lost our father/grandfather to cancer. From the news of his initial diagnosis, through the last days of his life, Columbus Community Hospital provided care and support to both him and to our entire family unit. The team of healthcare professionals were exceptional; especially the nurses and the physicians working with the Hospice program.

Our family has supported the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation since 2005. The Hospital cares for our family, friends and neighbors, providing skilled and passionate care. The employees and medical staff provide our local community with access to the highest quality of care through their ongoing commit-ment to safety and consistency. Our family’s support of the Columbus Community Hospital Foundation helps achieve the hospital’s vision for all that is best for our community.

It often occurs to me that folks driving by our hospital have different thoughts, depending on timing, and the fact we all see things through different eyes.

As a (retired) volunteer fireman of 30-some years, the last few as an EMT, I’m glad to see the expan-sion underway on the west side will have enclosed bays for ambulances to unload their patients. I have often speculated that corner is the windiest place in Platte County!

More recently, I look up and think about our new-est grandchild, Caitlyn Elizabeth, drawing her first breath in the maternity ward last summer.

Finally, as one who had the privilege to represent Dist. 22 in the Nebraska Legislature during the last recession, in the 1980’s, I am gratified to see all the activity. Disturbed soil, concrete trucks and hard hats are temporary nuisances I actually appreciate. They translate both immediately and eventually into the magic four-letter word, “jobs”.It is an obvious fact that the whole hospital area has become a magnet for economic development, and the discussion of an entire “wellness campus” to the east is especially exciting. We are fortunate indeed to have such a fine facility, staffed by such competent and caring people.

“ As a physician practicing in Columbus for over thirty years, I am very aware of the importance of the Columbus Community Hospital as the corner-stone of health care delivery in our area. Patients and physicians alike rely on the hospital to have at hand the highest quality equipment and best trained staff in order to insure that the finest quality of care is delivered to our community. I have always been very happy with the care provided by the hospital to my patients and and my family through the years. The efforts of the foundation help to insure that our local hospital will always have the means available for meeting the ongoing demands of providing equipment and the staff education necessary for maintaining the very best quality of care. I believe that supporting the foundation is an important way of contributing to the continuation of our local tradition of health care excellence.”

In Fiscal Year 200-20, and indeed

every year, the Columbus Community

Hospital is extremely grateful for the

efforts of our many volunteers. We sin-

cerely appreciate their unfailing service

and commitment to the patients and staff

of our hospital.

This team of volunteers, currently 32

individuals strong, is focused on both

service and fundraising efforts. We are

proud to be the recipient of the time and

talent of each volunteer, with total service

exceeding 25,000 hours and financial

contributions of more than $77,000.

Ongoing fund raising projects of the

Auxiliary include operating and staff-

ing the Unique Discoveries Gift Shop

in the Hospital, where the baby and

kitchen items, handmade by our sewing

volunteers are especially popular. The

Auxiliary also manages the Hospital snack

and soda vending machines. These earn-

ings were supplemented with proceeds

from the 26th Annual Extravaganza, two

bake sales, two book fairs, two jewelry

shows, a holiday raffle, the Holiday Gift

Open House, and earnings from sev-

eral endowment funds established on the

Auxiliary’s behalf.

Also in 200, the VolunTEEN program

was developed and implemented. The

VolunTEEN program, which is spe-

cifically designed for high school students

between the ages of 4-8, provides a way

for youth to gain hands-on exposure to

careers in healthcare, while serving along

side of the nurses and nurse assistants

in the Acute Care Unit. VolunTEENs

perform a variety of tasks including

delivering patient meal trays, stocking

linen cabinets, and visiting or playing

games with patients.

The reasons for volunteering are as

varied as each individual. For whatever

reason each has chosen to volunteer, we

are thankful. We are thankful for the

commitment, dedication, time, and

selfless response to help wherever and

whenever needed. To us, our volunteers

are “Our Priceless Treasures.”
