For over 95 years, the Jewish Federation of Greater Portland has been the trustee of our Jewish community, engaged in a leadership role within an intricate and responsive network of Jewish communal organizations. The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland is the support system for your Jewish journey. Since 1920, Federation has helped nourish your Jewish life, enrich our community, and keep Jewish culture strong in Portland and around the world. We are your direct route to tried and true services as well as innovative approaches that make the most effective and meaningful impact. Explore the ways we can make a difference - together.

The Jewish Federation of Greater Portland has experienced incredible growth over the past year. Our communal investments demonstrate our commitment to enhancing the Jewish experience through successful initiatives. We understand the dynamic nature of our community and have helped foster the transformation of some of our key institutions. These are just a few of the highlights from the past year in our effort to better meet the future needs of our community:

• PJ Library in Portland now serves youth up to age 11 and is offering programs in neighborhoods with a grant awarded by the Harold Grinspoon Foundation.

• We are training the next generation of Jewish leaders with the implementation of the A. Victor and Betty Rosenfeld Leadership Development Program.

• Families with children with special needs and Jewish communal leaders are shaping the future of engagement with the launch of the Inclusion Task Force.

• Increased funding to the Overseas Special Projects enhances Jewish life for marginalized populations in Israel.

• Jewish Right Start preschool incentive grant program provides funding for first-time Jewish preschool attendees.

• We amplified our voice by merging the Oregon Area Jewish Committee with our advocates to create the Jewish Community Relations Council.

• We provided financial support and aided in the facilitation of the Jewish Family and Child Service/Cedar Sinai Park merger.

Helping to enrich Jewish journeys through meaningful experiences.

Each week, young Julia places coins in her tzedakah box. Her mother says this is an opportunity to learn that giving is ongoing, something that is done again and again. PJ Library has given Julia’s family the resources they need to enrich their lives Jewishly.

Your support assures that all children in our community receive access to exceptional Jewish education from preschool to day school and beyond. Through each child’s experience, the whole family is engaged. They are immersed in the richness and diversity of Judaism. They are welcomed and supported. Their celebrations are infused with new meaning. And the friendships created can grow throughout each child’s lifetime.

ADVOCACY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE1,100HRSTOGETHER IN DIALOGUE AND DEEDS TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITY

Standing for what is right and joining with diverse communities who share our commitment to doing good.

Through the Jewish Community Relations Council, we are uniting diverse voices with shared values.

What has emerged from that experience is a profound respect, deep and abiding love that continues to transcend what presented itself as false narratives and inconvenient truths about African American-Jewish perception and relationship . . . This came about by virtue of our having risked the courageous and most difficult conversations. Our friendship can never be broken. I can honestly say my life has been made the better by it.

Promoting inclusion and inspiring the expression of our shared heritage.

Throughout our diverse community, we gather to express our culture and strengthen our sense of unity. Holidays are celebrated with joy. We share Shabbat dinner with family and friends. We support students on campuses who stand with Israel. We welcome new faces to our Greater Portland Jewish community.

$10,000RAISED IN 20 DAYS FROM FLASH FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGNS TO SUPPORT LOCAL FAMILIES IN NEED

SOCIAL SERVICESProviding vital assistance to those in need

with compassion and hope.

Taking care of those in need with respect is the foundation of our Jewish community. One example is with Hesed Shel Emet, the Oregon Jewish Indigent Burial Society. Through the society we make Jewish burial possible for people who were not able to plan their own. Together we provide the comfort, dignity, and expression of the ultimate act of loving kindness.

Residents of Cedar Sinai Park’s Robison Jewish Health Center receive the highest quality of care from compassionate staff and loving volunteers.

Jewish Family and Child Service is there to help you and your family overcome life’s challenges.

Community members donate to Passover4All and gather to deliver food boxes, ensuring local families

have what they need to celebrate Passover.

Through education, support of at-risk youth and marginalized populations, and lifesaving resources in times of crisis, we are building resilience and strengthening communities around the globe. We foster the sense of Jewish peoplehood for today and future generations.

ISRAEL AND GLOBAL JEWISH NEEDS 15,000ISRAELIS RECEIVED TRAUMA SUPPORT DURING THE GAZA CONFLICT

Jews of war-torn Ukraine receive critical aid from the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, a Federation-supported agency.

Young adults explore how ecology, Judaism, and Israel blend together in a working model of a self-sustaining ecological community in partnership with the Jewish Agency for Israel.

Krembo Wings is Israel’s only youth movement for children with special needs that enables them to enjoy the benefits of socializing with their able-bodied peers.
