“ We Gather In God’s Presence...” Prelude Music (Please take time to prepare for worship and silence electronic devices)
Greeting and Ministry Updates Introit “Holy Spirit” Smallwood Call to Worship Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth! Amen! On this day of Pentecost, may the Spirit dance with you! May the Spirit dance with you as well! May God’s grace be poured into your hearts. Come, Holy Spirit, to fill our hearts with love. May God’s Word become your language of praise. Come, Holy Spirit, to teach us new songs of thanksgiving.
Pentecost Prayer # 240 *Hymn # 237 ‘On Pentecost They Gathered’ MUNICH
Day of Pentecost The liturgical color today is red representing the fire of the Holy Spirit.
Call to Confession Unison Prayer of Confession We look for tongues of fire to wake our sleeping souls, God of Pentecost, but hold only the ashes of our broken promises. We want you to show us the secrets of the kingdom, never noticing that they are revealed in the songs of children, the memories of older folks, and the dreams of the young all around us. Have mercy on us, and pour out your Spirit, God of amazing days. When we pull the shutters of our souls shut, fling them open with the breath of wonder. When we turn out all the lights and huddle in the shadows of fear, illumine our hearts with the dancing flames of the Spirit’s joy. When we find it impossible to come up with the language of love, pour your Word, Jesus Christ, into our emptiness so we may fill others...

Get to Know Your Elders! For the next 5 weeks, each of our elected elders of consistory
will be leading worship. TODAY’S ELDER: Rebecca Broom
Rebecca arrived in St. Thomas in 1981 to teach at the VI Montessori School for a year, and never left this beautiful, diverse island community she still calls home. When her children, Martin and Emily, were young, it was the
Sunday school at the St Thomas Reformed Church that attracted her family. Rebecca became an active member of STRC, joining the church in
1988, ordained to Deacon in 1991 and to Elder in 2010, and presently serves on the Consistory, the Worship Team, and Dance Ministry. Our church sent
Rebecca to Young Children and Worship leader training at Western Theological Seminary in 1991 and since then, with the help of many
participants over the years, she has overseen the development of this wonder-filled way of hearing God’s Word and worshipping with the children. Rebecca had the privilege of assisting the co-author of the program, Dr. Sonja Stewart, with leader training in South Africa in
July 1995, and at Western Theological Seminary in June of 2003 and 2004.
After 20 years of teaching preschool and elementary, the last 16 years at Antilles, Rebecca finally answered God’s call she felt for a long time, and began Western’s Distance Learning Master of Divinity program in 2004.
She graduated from Western in 2009 and was ordained and installed into Specialized Ministry in 2010 as Hospice Chaplain. The pastors and
congregation of STRC have faithfully walked with Rebecca through many joys and sorrows over the years; she is ever so grateful for their ministry,
and serves our Lord and the church with great joy. And speaking of joy...Rebecca married Forrest Broom on May 11. They lovingly share busy
family life and ministry between home and sailboat.
Lectionary Scripture Readings for this week: Proverbs 8: 1 - 4, 22 - 31
Psalm 8 Romans 5: 1 - 5 John 16: 12 - 15
