There are two ways to look at a healthy city.
1.The first and obvious way is to look for cities
with the best health care in terms of access,
quality and affordability.
2.The second is to dive a little deeper into how
the city promotes and enables a healthy
lifestyle for its residents.
Vision
Building cities and communities of peace
Where all citizens live in harmony,
Committed to sustainable development,
respectful of diversity,
Reaching for the highest possible quality of life
and equitable distribution of health,
By promoting and protecting
health in all setting
Healthy Settings: What?
The place or social context in which people
engage in daily activities
in which environmental, organizational & personal
factors interact to affect health & wellbeing.
A setting is also where people actively use &
shape the environment & thus create or solve
problems relating to health.
Settings can normally be identified as having
physical boundaries, a range of people with
defined roles & an organizational structure.”

What is Habitat III?
• The third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development.
• The Conference is convened every 20 years: – Habitat I: Vancouver, Canada - 1976: The first
international UN Conference to fully recognize the challenge of urbanization.
– Habitat II: Istanbul, Turkey – 1996: Assessed two decades of progress since Habitat I and set fresh goals for the new millennium. Habitat Agenda adopted – “Adequate Shelter for All”
– Habitat III : Quito, Ecuador - October 2016: “A New Urban Agenda”
Cities today occupy approximately only 2% of the total land, however:
Economy (GDP) 70% Global energy consumption over 60% Green gas emissions 70% Global waste 70% “Cities are where the battle for sustainable
development will be won or lost” (HLP, 2013).
It is becoming more and more clear that achievements on Sustainable development will depend on how we will manage and guide the urbanization

The New Urban Agenda
“the capacity of urbanization … to address the challenges of poverty, inequality, its contribution to addressing climate change and also to advance more sustainable forms of consumption and production in the forthcoming years.”

The New Urban Agenda Thematic Areas
The UN has provided six thematic areas to guide all countries in the preparation of the National Reports and Plans of Action.
1) Urban Economy
2) Urban Demographics (Social Cohesion and Equity)
3) Urban Frameworks (Governance and Legislation)
4) Urban Ecology and Environment
5) Urban Planning and Design
6) Housing and Basic Services
A Smart City , a city well performing in a forward-looking way in
these 6 characteristics,
built on the „smart‟ combination of endowments and activities of
self-decisive, independent and aware citizens.

smart city
Become digitally smart – effectively deploy information and communication technologies to execute governance, stimulate citizen action, and share learnings across
institutions and among cities;
Become physically smart – transform infrastructure and processes for flows of energy, materials, services and financing to catalyse sustainable development,
resilience, and a higher quality of life; and
Become economically smart – establish local ecosystems through which citizens and businesses can share assets and resources, and collaborate to meet specific goals.
Cities tend to be benchmarked on various criteria cutting across THREE DIMENSION:
liveability (quality of life, urban mobility); workability (income equality, working environment and economic
productivity); and
sustainability (e.g., resource and energy efficiency, pollution and
environmental protection). Smart cities excel in how they improve on all three dimensions
