Why a New Partnership Vision?
Adapting to a Changing Environment
The value of a vision for a partnership
• Provides a “compass” – an updated and agreeable
direction for the Partnership to strive towards;
provides clarity and focus for stakeholders
• Defines “borders” – what belongs to Partnership
and what does not; helps balance between
different agendas.
• Empowers and motivates all people involved;
evokes emotion and spreads enthusiasm
• Contributes to Partnership effectiveness &
efficiency - clarifies decision making; provides a
basis for prioritizing projects.

Defining Partnership Focus Areas
Partnership Meeting the Trends and Challenges
Bringing our own additional perspectives of the needs, trends, opportunities,
strengths and challenges, please choose two areas in which you believe Partnership
can make a difference
Please refer to the Partnership Vision
Please write each area on a separate Post It note
Our Chosen Partnership Focus Areas
• Education (with an emphasis on Hebrew)
• Entrepreneurship and investment (some as a first step towards making Aliyah)
• Making Shoham a “home away from home” for Venezuelan program participants, visitors, volunteers, etc.
• Developing young leadership (20-40 years old)
• Community building projects
Creating Project Ideas for Our Partnership Focus Areas
Workgroups
Venture Group Ideas for Projects:
Some base assumptions: • It is challenging to mix Zionism, Judaism,
partnership and business • The project ideas are based on the hunch that
every kid (in Israel and Venezuela) wants to be a rich person when they grow up
• Perhaps we can utilize trends of ecological and healthy life
• The “side effects” or added values of these projects will possibly be Zionist love and “kosher” matchmaking
Venture Group Ideas for Projects:
Project Ideas: 1. Build an incubator or for-profit “start up” connecting
young populations in Shoham and Venezuela. The online project and communication of the group will include mentoring, sharing ideas, bringing each other up to date and showcasing the projects
2. Marketing and advertising investing channels in Shoham to Venezuelan investors. Some investment ideas: • A radio station • A convention center including a mall, hotel etc.
Education Group Ideas for Projects: Some base assumptions and thoughts: • Many already existing projects in Israel can be duplicated in Venezuela Project Ideas:
1. Jira – Venezuelan students coming over to Israel, will extend their stay and spend time in Shoham. Since these are Madrichim, they will enjoy home hospitality as well as one on one meetings with the Madrichim in Shoham from different groups The Venezuelans will learn some of the existing projects and will go back home with ideas to implement in their community; possibly even building joint program together with Israeli peers
2. “Short term” communal programs – interested people from the two communities will form a joint committee to design projects together. We are about the building process. An example: communications to form KESHER
3. Education Group Ideas for Projects:
Project Ideas – cont’d: 3. Creating connections between kindergartens and kindergarten
teachers 4. Enhancing Hebrew language studies in venezuela through
“school twinning” programs 5. Community development / Leisure project ideas: – gardening,
arts, sports, sculpture garden, 3rd age club, communal cooking book, Jewish festival book, sell books for revenue, and give away to community members
6. Celebrating together holidays like “leil Haseder” 7. International competitions 8. Utilizing local experts for exchange delegations and building
programs together
Developing Criteria for Effective Project
Selection and Evaluation
• Make sure we are achieving the partnership's goals
• Choose & evaluate programs
• Better decision-making
• Transparency and accountability
• Build consensus
• Build basis for a learning organization
Why Do We Need Pre-Determined Criteria for Selecting Programs?
Strategic & Operational Criteria
Strategic Criteria
• Relevance • Impact
• Scope
Operational Criteria
• Work structure
• Management
• Resources
Partnership Chosen Criteria for Project Selection

Looking Into the Crystal Ball
What are the 2-3 goals that would be important
for this committee to achieve one year from
now?

Our Goal
Start by expanding the communal knowledge of Partnership: • Advertise through the communal channels
and media • Create events that interest the media • Advertise the Partnership projects
Needs to be determined
• The people of both communities will know more than they do now about each other and the potential of the other community
One year Making Shoham a “home away from home” for Venezuelans – to visit, create friendships and to build
• Create a communication structure /channels – possibly a committee (or another structure) of professionals and volunteers
• Create an online site housing information about Partnership its activities and projects
• Make a conscious attempt to relate everything to do with Israel in Venezuela to Partnership
• Define and agree upon a decision making body and work processes – how will project decisions be made
• Decide on coordinators for each Partnership project– possibly 2 coordinators (1 from each community). Get more people from the community on board to assist and enhance.
• Openly publicize ideas and decisions to everyone
Needs to be determined
• Completion of a first joint project
• Creation of a joint blog / Facebook
• Clear decision making and work processes in place
One year More and better communication between the members of the committee
Let’s Make it Happen!
Suggested Next Steps
• Convene volunteer workgroups by focus area: Venture group volunteers: Gil Admoni, Henry, Nelson, Gabby, Morris. Professional guide: Dina
Education group volunteers: Ronit, Avi, Yael, Anita Professional guides: Cheryl and Michal
Overarching professional overview of focus areas: Anabella and Peleg Reshef
Each volunteer group will:
– Create goals for the focus area
– Further develop the ideas discussed (and others) into detailed project cards
Suggested Next Steps – Cont’d
• Convene a (virtual) committee meeting to:
– Share the project ideas developed by the volunteer teams
– Apply the chosen criteria to determine project priorities
– Agree on chosen projects
– Decide on next major steps and a timetable
